My mother used to acid scarify Texas madrone and mountain laurel seeds in her nursery. She had very good success with both.

Have you found a reliable lavender flower that grows well here in Houston....do you cold stratify the seeds? What time of year do you plant them? Thank you! I look forward to your videos, as you are super local to me!

I tried 2 varieties including the more heat tolerant spanish type. I did cold stratify, and they did germinate, but I couldn't get the seedlings to flourish. I'm not talented with some of the herbs. I did cold stratify, but I started the seedlings in late winter indoors. However, the plant really needs to be sturdy and outdoors after our winter chill has finished, and I'm thinking my advice should be to start your plant 6 months before you think you need to so that it's ready to go outdoors in early spring. Also, I think there's a lavender farm in or around Brenham? It may be worth a visit if you are serious about growing lavender in Houston. They may have plants to purchase as well.
