    the way they designed the car's engine sound is so awesome. when i was watching it in the cinema theater, it almost sounded like the speakers were a bit broken, due to the way the bass(i believe) was designed and played

    Turns out the "Motorcycle" sound that was thought to be a Bullroarer, was in fact a male choir (but I think it's supposed to mimic a Bullroarer, according to another interview). Here's the interview:
    WALLFISCH: (Laughs) Ah. That’s actually Denis’ idea. We called it a motorcycle after we made it. It’s actually a crazy process of sound distortion. We started out with a male choir which we heavily saturated, granulated, put through a filter LFO, octavers, and then fed all that to a pitch altering module with a random LFO moving the pitch all over the place in an unpredictable way. It’s part of the sonic anarchy in the score. Something Denis said from the very beginning was the score needed to have a punk attitude. He reminded us of that in almost every meeting. So this motorcycle sound was definitely a strong allusion to that.

    Well I remember a composition teacher calling music like this (pornophonic) because it is achieved not through composition/musical architectural considerations but through electronic sorority manipulations and musique concrete. Just sayin. Hey I like it and I get that other point of view as valid.

    • @Mayakran
      @Mayakran 6 років тому +12

      paxwallacejazz (not disagreeing with you btw, just using your comment as a springboard) it’s definitely more ambient than your typical soundtrack, but imo the job of a film score should be to support and elevate the visual, thematic, and dramatic elements of the movie. A LOT of the stuff out there may be more melodic/“traditional” but it creates no atmosphere, provides no memorable/unique tone to the film, plays it safe, and contains little to no emotional hooks.
      I’ll take a simplistic, ambient, brutal, haunting, bombastic score that pulls you into the world and the emotions of the characters and gives you an aural thrill ride over some bland Marvel shit any day.

  • @bashkillszombies

    1:02 - That's actually a bullroarer, a neolithic European instrument (most commonly misattributed to Australian aboriginies, who in fact did not have leather working, hide working, nor cordage making thus could not have had the instrument prior to European contact - sadly this reality is now 'racist' and no longer taught post 2015 and an alternate reality is being taught (just as most people are unaware American indians never had iron or any metal, thus never had axes, never had longbows only short flat bows good only for small game hunting, never had leatherworking (they may have had hide working though) and never thought to ride a horse, plant a seed, or cultivate cattle - again something that is now retconned)) the instrument consists of a rhomboidal shaped piece of wood swung on a piece of twine. It makes a strange sound like that. This has obviously been altered digitally, but this is absolutely the source of the noise.
