Daytona CCS race of Champions 2012, onboard with Greg Melka. Mark Miller Jr. takes a memorable win

Daytona international speedway, 10-21-2012 Championship Cup Series Race of Champions weekend. Middle weight superbike onboard vid. This is on my 2008 Yamaha R6 on Michelin Cup DOT tires. VB front and A (soft) 190/55 rear tire. Only a 5 lap sprint and we are gridded by POINTS from our respective ccs region. Some big names in this race are Jake Zemke, Michael Barnes, Stefano Mesa, AMA Horizon award winner Andre Ochs, Dan Ortega, Winner Mark Miller, Jim Cohrs, Alex Shaw and others. Some of those top pros were gridded further back as they race AMA not CCS so don't have points for this race.
i was glad it was a short race and was gridded at the front.. I was able to get a tow from Mark for awhile, then Zemke went by (yes, JAKE Zemke :) ) and i didn't get a good enough drive out of the chicane to stay in that draft. I was happy to finish 3rd and ran some of my best times. What's it look like to beat a very talented pro rider? watch Miller on the cool down lap to see if he's excited or not.. !
Huge thanks to Michelin Tires, EBC brakes, Silkolene oils, Sharkskins, Pit Bull, Pro Flow Technologies, Engine Ice, JRi shocks, Mike "Thermosman" Fitzgerald, and Jim Scala for putting this motor together .. it is friggin fast, Mark just has a TON of money in that beast he is riding. My bike was easily the 2nd fastest R6 at Daytona, and with a gearing change earlier in the weekend, i may have been able to take it to him.
yes Terry, was likely my best weekend racing at Daytona ever. Ran my fastest times, had ALL top 5 finishes and a win. Very pleased, but had lots of help along the way. An MV would be a wonderful bike to ride there !

when i thought they were going fast the guys in the front hit the turbo!!! LOL i poped i wheelie after the barrel turn and went straight to the wall in march hoping to do better next month, c u guys out there!!!! Recless Racing Baby!!!
ya don't have to race.. TeamHammer holds a track day the day before the race weekend. it's a great way to experience Daytona speedway.

Greg, when you run over the paint on the entrance to the chicane, are you off the brakes by then? Also holding it flat out through the 2/3 transition?
pretty sure i am starting to pick the bike up and not hard on the brakes when going over the paint at the entrance to the chicane Gino. pretty hard on the gas going from 2nd gear to 3rd gear exiting turn 1 and heading to the Int. horseshoe though.. not sure if wfo, but on the gas.
