I am a 53 year old man from Athens, Greece . My first encounter with pigeons was a white baby pigeon that my grandfather brought to me after he rescued it from the street. It was the best present I have got in my life.Pigeons in my opinion are the sweetest creatures on earth. They are very smart, recognize very well the person who cares for them and have their own way of showing affection towards her or him. They are the symbol of love because they mate for life and would protect their nest and babies with their lives. Also in ancient Greece ,pigeon was the symbol of Venus, godess of beauty.Calling pigeons rats with wings is sick, the probability of getting ill from pigeons is as low as is the probability of being hit from thunder.Although I have been living in a flat ,I have rescued and cared from many injured pigeons and I always feed the stray pigeons. If we dont feed them they have no other way of finding healthy food in the cities. So I can say to those people who are afraid from pigeons not only that I have an excellent health, but also that pigeons kept me away from bad habits like drinking, drugs, smoking and gambling. The main reason that rumours are spread against pigeons is that certain companies demonize pigeons to make money.Joey, the way you keep your pigeons is excellent. The birds are healthy ,safe, have their mates but in the same time they are not allowed to breed uncontrollably.I wish more pigeons were removed from the ruthless city streets and kept in this way.The impressionj that I am getting about you is that you are a very good, educated and decent man.Thank you very much for the beautiful video and best wishes for new year 2023 ! Dimitris
I found a baby pigeon as a kid from under a bridge. He couldn't fly yet and the bridge was very high where the other pigeons would hang out. Lots of traffic. So I took him home, kept him outside in an old nest box but it was open, so he was free to leave when he wanted but it was high away from cats, had to feed him with a syringe at first. Looked like an adult eventually and would fly away but come back. Well eventually he flew away and didn't come back. I feared the worst. About a 6months or a year later he came back to the nest box that was still there! I was in shock! But he had turned into a beautiful male bird with nice green around his neck. I fed him, petted him, and eventually he flew away never to be seen again. I always assumed he went back to the bridge with all the other pigeons which was 10 miles away or so. It's a memory I'll never forget.
JOEY, you picked the perfect animal to keep and enjoy. because you set them free to fly, but because of the love and care you give to them! well they simply return with joy and happiness. enjoy them to the max. many blessings for you and your wife.
It is truly great to see someone else with the same attitude about pigeons as I do. I really love my birds and the hours of fun we have together. Good job Joey !!!!!
Your pigeons are GORGEOUS! 😍 Great to see you enjoying them. I’m about to get my first pair after being “bitten” by pigeon fever 😉I fostered a feral baby P this summer & it left a corner in my heart that’s allocated to “pigeons” from now on 😍😍😍
This is so awesome!!! We LOVE pigeons so much in our household. We have taken to feeding the feral ones many years ago, and do notice they have very distinct personalities, relationships, Etc. They're also super smart. I had no idea that there was a pigeon rescue organization out there. Thanks for posting this, it's really pretty incredible.
Thanks! And their inter-pigeon relationships are such a hidden thing to see! Most people aren't going to notice just by passing them on the street. You really have to spend some time with them to get to know em.
Pigeon flock came from behind me then cornered the fox and goose to say we're “saving the president” 😂 what all of them? Ive never seen so many pigeons
I did have a pigeon back then, I called him spot bc he was white with black spots. He also had a collar at the start of his neck that reflects some emerald like color when in the sun, I loved having him and seeing a pigeon up close. I never knew they were size of an average human head, or at least close to that. But he wasn’t enjoying his stay, we couldn’t get a big enough cage yet we were able to give him food and water, so me and my dad decided to let him out of his cage and roam our backyard. He didn’t fly right away because one of his wings were clipped, but the feathers probably grew back since he flew away after a while. It was a fine experience, not too exciting or boring, it also included birds so :>
This is a great video and should be used in schools and for pigeon education. Hope to someday have what you have....loved these birds since i was ten and often hand raised fallen babies....once ready they had complete freedom outside but would show up when i called and or for food. These birds are so underrated and rescuing is so cool. I've raised a few types of other birds as well. I had one male pigeon, free after weaning......one day when he was about 2 yrs....i was riding my bike and all of a sudden a bunch of feathers hit my face while he attempted to land on the handle bars a presume !! I crashed of course but i was still amazed that he new me on the mike, needless to say finally mother nature took it's course and i saw him less and less assuming he found love.....people are so misinformed about them. Need to find some way to live with them in the cities....hummm. great work.
I love this❤️ I have quail and am obsessed with mine. My mom tried to do something nice for me and get me more quail but she got me pigeons 🤣 she did not realize they weren’t quail. So now I have 3 new pigeons and I’m trying to figure out how to care for them but so far I do love them. I’m planning a big aviary for them and possibly getting more (cuz of course my odd one is going to need a mate).
Lovely to see how much you care. I feed around 150 pigeons and doves every day. I have had a few that I have rescued and released back into the wild. But one special one took me over a year to teach to fly again. She was in bad shape. Could not stand up or eat. I can only imagine she flew into a window and has some brain damage. I was not happy to release her but she seemed so unhappy to be locked in the aviary. She came back every day to feed but after about 6 months she disappeared. My heart was broken. I know something has happened to her. But half of me is glad she had her freedom. The other half is wishing I had kept her home safe. A tough call for sure. You just never know what the right thing is to do. I was just so fortunate to have shared her life for two years. Maybe I should have kept her home. ❤️
150 birds is an astounding feat. All the pigeons in our aviary are unreleasable due to injuries or being raised in captivity, and I can’t imagine how tough it is to let one of them go like that. We always hope that the bird’s lives - and ours! - are better for it. Thanks for sharing your story.
I agree with you 99%. I too love my pigeons, but I am a racing pigeon enthusiast. I love my pigeons and spend lots of time with them . They are my pets and my hobby. I do everything I can to make their life enjoyable, including training and participating in races. They love their home, and I love them coming home. Indy looks like a great bird. You are fortunate to have him! Great aviary you have there! I hope more people will embrace pigeons because of your video! God bless!

I feel, compared to doves, pigeons have a stronger personality and they come in so many forms. Im heavily considering in the future to build a large aviary and have some. Hello, Joey I’m looking in on adopting a ring neck dove from Palomacy but I live down in Texas near Houston do you know more on like how they get their doves delivered i know their is a 10 dollar fee for adopting application but is their a fee on shipping costs if so do you happen to know the price?
I'm not sure, to be honest. I don't believe Palomacy actually ships any of their birds (seems a little risky). What I assume they would do is connect you with a foster aviary close to your area, and possibly meeting with them. But I'd recommend contacting Elizabeth Young, who runs Palomacy, for all your questions. She'll be glad to answer them.
Pigeons are dirty because humans are very very dirty. Before humans polluted the environment, pigeons were as clean as any other bird. 🅰️n act of violence against nature should be judged as severely as that against society or another person. - Dr. Michael W.Fox
In the early 1980’s a work colleague of mine had a theory.... now you’ve got to remember that this was the early 80’s and the Cold War was still a real thing... his question was, “Have YOU ever seen a baby pidgeon?” And despite living and working in S.F. all my life, I could honestly say that, no, I hadn’t ever seen a baby pidgeon. His answer and theory was, “That’s because pidgeons are actually part of a Russian plot. They’re not real, they’re actually little Russian robot spies!” Of course, this was a joke,. But while you no doubt have seen baby pidgeons, the fact is you don’t ever see them... nests, eggs, fledglings, young/small pidgeons... in everyday city life. “Nope, no babies. Makes you wonder, huh?” 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
I love your setup man the birds are really pretty too but one question tho don’t u think it’s unfair to the birds when u take their eggs ? Wouldn’t u think it’ll be cool to see how they raise their babies? If u don’t want them to breed u could u know keep the males and females in separate aviary maybe ? If u still want eggs I mean female pigeons are like chickens they don’t need a male partner to lay an egg :) :) :)
Thank for rescuing these awesome Pigeons. I feed and rescue them I can watch them for hours maybe I was a Pigeon in one of my previous life LOL! It hurst me how humans treat these awesome birds, I know they can become a problem on commercial shopping centers; I am talking to store owners where there is a lot feral Pigeons to consider OVOCONTROL pigeon's birth control this work on Seagulls and other birds pellets are given daily we have gone from 100 Pigeons to less than half in one year with OVOCONTROL check out OVOCONTROL.COM our goals is that people stop hurting this awesome birds. Thanks so much for this educating video I LOVE PIGEONS!
Thank you so much for helping us help these birds.

These birds are the eyes of God. Angels in our midst. i dont know why i wasted 40 yearson anything else!
Nice video...nice birds and loft👍
Joey, your video is well done! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing! I love Pigeons, I'm hoping to make an aviary myself once I retire in 6 years, and enjoy their company.
Awesome video Joey!

Love this I’ll be building an indoor aviary for my ringneck dove flock ! :)
How big is their coop? Great setup.
Well, as the occupants of ancient Haight would said, "Far Out!"
Very compelling! The lesson respect n love animals in all shape n form!
really cool video, nicely edited and very informative
this was so rad joey!

I am deciding to have a pigeon companion and I need to ask you questions if that's OK.
1. Which gender of pigeon do you suggest for beginers or us kids?
2. Are females more affectionate than males?
3. Are males territorial?
4. Is it better to have a hand tamed one or hand tame it yourself?
5. Are easy to take care of? And last question, do they poop a lot?
Absolutely love your aviary. Working on finishing up mine so i can move my pigeons to a really nice place like yours. Can you please put a link to where you buy the wooden dwellings within the little poles.
Do you ever let them out to fly or are they strictly aviary bound?
You're thoughts on pigeon racing?
We need more vids bro
Great video… do you sometimes let them out of their cage?
awesome video been considering getting a Pidgeon how would you recomend buying one and at what age i was going to buy some off ksl and have the live in a kage indoors
Joey!! Pigeons24-7!!!
2:41 lol ... That was unexpected

How do you bond with them? How long does it take to build up trust let alone friendship?
Hello! Pigeon question! How much do they produce waste? I heard that it was a looot, but I wanted to ask an expert.
I have 4 indian fantail doves 😍😍😍😍

Late comment here! But did you build their nesting boxes?
The blue one is a pure racing (homer) pigeon . You called indian?
how will you take your pigeons with you when you move? :o
Hey Joey! I love your video. We just lost our pigeon from illness. Where can we find plans for the boxes you made inside the aviary? Thank you!
Thanks Linda! And I’m so sorry to hear about your bird. We had our nest boxes out together through a contractor, but I found ones by Grizzles Inc. that look similar. A quick google search should bring them up!
Just give them grits mix it with ur feeds and also probiotics they will be happy and healthy
DO U FLY THEM OR TRAIN THEM TO GO AND COME BACK
Would pigeons be a good choice for first time bird owners?
they're better for a first time bird owner than parrots, but they still need a lot of attention.
me encanta
