Very helpful. I am replacing some ropes in my 1870 house and have made the mistake of tying a weight too loose only to have it crash down in the middle of the night. Being very tall windows, it had quite a ways to drop. Loud noise but as soon as I heard it, I surmised what the problem was. Am keen to tie knots correctly from now on so as not to have to take the window apart again. Thank you for this clear demonstration.
A figure of 8=eight knot works too. Many old weights are rough cast and the hole size can be too large for an 8 knot to hold the weight for several decades. The knot I use is bulkier so there is less chance of the weight slipping off in 20 years time. 😊
@@jimsear I am sorry I didn’t explain myself well. Totally agree with what you said . I was more talking about the other knots for the other kind of weight .
in your first video you show how to install the sash rope, in this one how to tie the weights. In between these videos I would like to know where to cut the sash rope ie where they cross over in the first video?
Generally, not a great idea! If you want to, send a couple of photos of the weights and windows I might be able to give some better advice. There is always a solution!
There are a lot of videos about how to replace sash cord but none on exactly how to tie the rope. This video was very helpful. Thanks.
Cheers Jim, you make it look so easy - I'm getting there but need more practice 😉👍👍
Don't we all!

Thanks. Exactly what I was locking for. I suggest changing the titel to include the word "knot" for better searching.
Thanks for the comment. I'll take your advice and add knot to the title
Thanks! Was about to just tie something without thinking of how the weight would hang. Much appreciated.
Perfect. Just what I needed to know as I rehang two sash weights in my 1890s house. Thanks for posting!
What a star - thank you - just concise information 👍
Great video, Jim! Thanks.
One needs a video with the complete process
Question: why not using a 8 style knot for the single hole weight ?
A figure of 8=eight knot works too.

I always tie a fig 8 knot on the first weight.
A figure of eight knot works as well.

I'll make a video this week.
Try this link! It'll show the process in full.

What about tying 2 weights on each side for a large window?
Generally, not a great idea! If you want to, send a couple of photos of the weights and windows I might be able to give some better advice.
There is always a solution!
Is that knot called the rabbit hole knot?
Bowline. But I'm calling it the rabbit hole knot from now on!
