    These guides are super appreciated! I got a couple of friends into Guilty Gear (and fighting games in general) recently, and they've been having a great time but have recently been getting pretty discouraged by Elphelt. Since I don't have access to my setup to lab right now, I haven't really been able to offer much advice, so these videos are a godsend to help show that everything in the game CAN be beaten if you know the matchup.

      Mmmmm, I decided to just take a break for a while. Haven't been enjoying Strive lately and getting knowledge checked by a new character certainly doesn't help with that. Reckon I'll come back when they add Jam and throw a tantrum because she isn't like her Xrd version XD

    7:18 for those who care/are interested, the reason this happens is because of jump install.
    basically, in guilty gear, there is a mechanic where grounded moves that recover aerially can be used with a tiger knee input to become air actionable. it basically means that even though you aren't normally able to use certain options (most cases it's double jump) after these moves, but jump install enables that.

    I dont remember the details, but i think i saw a post on the GGST_EL tag that said backdash was great against midscreen OTG 214h oki, since it dodges the grenade explosion and moves you in a way that dodges Elphelt's air move. But i have to test it in detail to be sure.

    My current weakness I'm trying hardest to work on is figuring out what to punish counter hits with when playing elphelt based on circumstances - go for air combos? Just 6h every time? And I don't know enough to know how to learn what's best for that. Seeing as you asked for video ideas is there anything there? Or too broad?

    Great guide! I'm still having issues if she tries to start her rekka off a lvl 3 attack move like 2H, you gotta mash 6P to counter it (if you don't have a dp). But if she cancels into the grenade instead, the 6P gets beat. I feel like I can't try to react to the 214H while simultaneously also having to press 6P asap if I don't wanna end up in the rekka blender...

    Anyway, I've been hours on training mode trying to understand the "tiger knee", twitter apparently can't translate the comment in japanese and google translate doesn't give much information over the fact that delaying the tk input adds momentum to 214hs (I think that's what is happening), and I haven't been able to see any difference between tk-ing and not (assuming I'm not doing the input wrong), and what I'm getting is the most fuzzyable/reactable mix I ever seen, hell, at one point, in one of the recordings, I outright have been able to block holding on both sides the non cross-up sequence, I don't even know how the hell did I manage to do that, maybe it glitched or something...
    Can anyone help me figure this out please?

    what can elphelt do as mix if they start air throwing? or is the bomb reactable so off of 2H it's just invalidated by that? Or can she mix between bomb and rekka or something there if it's not actually reactable?

    • @mexicanchicken3377
      @mexicanchicken3377 7 місяців тому +2

      If they start jump air grabbing it every time, they’re susceptible to a pretty heavy counter hit by simply waiting for the jump, or cancelling into a different special (safer)
      2H isn’t that minus on block so you have time to punish an air throw attempt. It’s pretty hard to react to and throw in time, so im pretty sure they have to air throw preemptively? I haven’t tested if it’s react punishable

    I'm trying to understand the guide but I don't know the terminology at all 💀

    • @Gaogull
      @Gaogull 7 місяців тому +2

      what terminology is giving you trouble?? i’ll list some stuff in case those are the things you don’t know:
      numbers+letter (example:214H): this is what’s known as "numpad notation". the numbers are the directions you have to input to make the move, and one knows what direction they represent by looking at numbers in a numpad (example: 214 = down(2)>down-back(1)>back(4)). 5 is neutral (in other words: no direction is being input) and i think you can figure out the rest (if not, look at a numpad and the arrows on them to understand better). the letter that comes after the numbers (example: the "H" in "214H") is just the button that you have to press after inputting the directions (so, in the case of "H" (sometimes written as "HS"), it means you have to press the "heavy slash" button). with this you’ll be able to understand what things like 6P or 2D are.
      oh, and sometimes you’ll see "c.S" and "f.S", which just mean "close slash" and "far slash" respectively ("c.S" is what’s known as a "proximity normal", which means it’ll only come out if you’re close to the opponent (otherwise you’ll get "f.S")).
      OTG (on the ground): this is basically hitting the opponent while they’re knocked down with a hard knock down (as long as they are not on their rising animation (they are invulnerable during that animation)), which will make them wake up quickly.
      move levels (example: LVL3 and LVL4): these are not commonly talked about unless you get to a certain level of play, but it’s basically the amount of hitstun (the amount of time the opponent will be unable to act after you successfully land an attack) and blockstun (the same but for when the attack is blocked) the attack has (the higher the level the more stun it has).
      soft/hard knockdown: i used this term in the "OTG" explanation, so i think that explaining it could be helpful. basically, when you knock down your opponent with an attack, one of two things will happen: they’ll either wake up quickly or a bit after getting knocked down. these are known as "soft knockdown" and "hard knockdown" respectively. usually, moves like grabs and sweeps will give a hard knockdown, while most other moves give a soft knockdown.
      DP (dragon punch): this usually refers to a "meterless reversal" (a move with whole-body invulnerability frames that doesn’t use any meter) or a "shoryuken-like move" (if i’m not mistaken, "shoryuken" is japanese for "dragon punch"). these moves are usually done with a 623 input, so 623 is usually referred to as a "do input".
      meaty: this is essentially a move that is timed so it hits the opponent while they’re waking up after being knocked down, forcing them to either block the hit or use a reversal. a well known example of this is millia’s H disc (236H), which is used to make the opponent stay put while millia goes for a mix up.
      okizeme (often shortened as "oki"): it’s basically what you do after you knock down someone. again, millia is an excellent example. she’s what’s known as an "oki monster", which means that she thrives once she gets a hard knockdown. what she does is using her H disc as i described before (which is known as "projectile oki") to mix up the opponent with her oppressive kit while they’re forced to either block the mix or use a reversal to get out of the situation completely with the risk of getting punished if she baits it (punish which she’ll use to do damage and get you in the exact same situation).
      i hope this helped and, if it didn’t, i apologise. if the latter is the case, would you mind telling me what term or terms used are the ones you don’t understand??
      i also apologise if anything was improperly worded. i’m not a native speaker of this language (however, this should not be taken as an excuse, just an explanation)

  • @Pandaman64
