Love this Seb. It's great to view WL as a fight for the podium, but so much better when viewed as it truly is: a battle against oneself. Thank you for your content!
I love that Pizzolato jerks from the fingertips for his warm-up. If you're someone that struggles with the rhythm of the movement or treating the jerk more like a press, I highly recommend giving this a try. Of course, if you want to use it forever, there are many great athletes that jerk from the fingertip. Kianoush Rostami and Ruslan Nurudinov both set WR C&Js without the bar in the palm of their hands. As did Lu Xiaojun at 2019 Worlds.
That works for me too. With my hands closed on the bar I get the tendency to press the weight up. From the fingers there's no real possibility to do that
@@madworld109 can i ask you what is the timing on that? i'm trying to get into weightlifting and i have this exact problem. Do i just switch hand position when i dip or do i switch to full grip as i'm coming up from the dip?
@@Dr.Giangy as you dip and drive and the bar leaves your shoulders, its is still in your fingertips. All you do is punch and catch it, and close your hands around the bar as its in the air
Awesome stuff, Seb! It's definitely interesting to see people other than the "main players" battling it out! I was just about to comment about him going for that milemarker 200 kg rather than just trying to win the competition-- 'cause you know-- why go for 198 kg when you're so close to 200? But makes sense about him just competing against himself for the robi points. Maybe most competitions now at the elite level are more about trying to make it to the olympics rather than actually trying to win the competition-- I'm not sure how I feel about that-- I'd like to see some true head-to-heads that aren't all about trying to get points for the olympics
And for the follow-up: In Tokyo for the Olympics it was these two battling for bronze, maybe silver in a tight pack behind Lu Xiaujun. Each bested their Roma totals, with Pizzolato hitting the second best snatch at 165 and Maurus nailing 161. Then Zacarias Bonnat snuck into silver with a 204 C&J, and both Pizzolato and Maurus hitting 200. Maurus tried and missed 205, and Pizzolato missed 203 and then a ridiculous 210, but he still came away with bronze. This battle was a great preview of the matchup in the Olympics.
Yeah Nino seemed as strong as Lu in his prime with how fast he stands up cleans but Lu was just more experienced I think and moved sharper . I think Nino could have easily secured silver but really pushed for gold so no shame trying to beat one of the goats lol. Shame about the Olympics weight classes changing so we won't get Nino, Lu, Li, Harrison, Karlos, etc have a stacked battle.
THIS CONTENT IS SO BLOODY FULFILLING. Nah but seriously though, I love how articulate your videos are. REQUEST: Seb to document his own training session with an Oly lifting coach, followed by a Seb-voiceover drawing comparisons to his favourite lifters? 😂
I loved the video!!! Are you meaning to say “Antonio” rather than “Antonino”? Sounds like there was a missing syllable. Love when you feature team usa :)
Antonio is (much) more common name here in Italy than Antonino, which is why it might sound unfamiliar to you. But Pizzo's name really is Antonino. It's a Sicilian version of Antonio.
I'm sorry, did you say Pizzolato clean and jerked 215 in training or just jerked? Are there any videos of that or the 214? Cus looking at this, you wouldn't think that a clean and jerk at those weights is possible for him unless he was injured here.
I think I speak for many when I say that 'Weightlifting Battles' is greatly appreciated. These kinds of productions are excellent.
Thanks so much!

I got chills watching the slow mo on Nino’s amazing 160kg snatch.

I guess those true head-to-heads are what we see at the Olympics right?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Pizzolato is quite tall for a 81 lifter? He's between 175-180?
If you look at his upper body, he is less built than shorter lifters, like Lu.
Italian lifters aren't usually very built in the upper body
I think he's 177-178 (5 9, 5 10)
EDIT*** I just checked his Police info, he's 180 cm. So around 5 11, 6 feet.

It was 'just' a jerk. If you go to his IG and then scroll back to July I believe you'll see the 215.
