Santavy vs Pliesnoi | The Greatest Weightlifting Duels Ever
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 вер 2024
- At the 2020 Roma Cup I was able to watch and film some of the most exciting battles and back-room duels I've been lucky enough to see. This one is between Boady Santavy (CAN) and Anton Pliesnoi (GEO), two of the best 96s in the world.

What happened is that the clock started running beforetime and Pliesnoi had to rush his lift. I was there and saw the whole thing. Was very unfair. Luckly they gave him another shot but doing two 180kg snatches in a row can prove taxing heh.
That makes sense, thanks for the explanation!
Pepe
I was about to comment to ask what happened there-- thanks for the info!
What about the juice though? No juicing in USA UK or Canada...
@@colinphillips6919 I suspect that Anton Pliesnoi was using performance enhancing drugs during the 2020 Olympic Men's Weightlifting 96 KG category and here's why.
During his first attempt "Clean and Jerk", Anton suffered a hamstring and knee injury but the lift was good.
During the second attempt, Anton was limping badly after failing to complete the clean.
During his third attempt a few minutes later, Anton gets his third attempt "Clean and Jerk" at 210 KGs, taking the Bronze Medal away from its rightful owner, Canada's Boady Santavy.
Because Weightlifting requires a high degree of concentration along with a healthy body, there's no possible way a lifter can suffer severe cramps and injuries one attempt, and then gets a resounding good lift on the next.
Athletes trying hard not to watch each other is like two cats in a room pretending the other doesn't exist
The damn ad is fake, don’t trust it. It’s a copy and paste script
As a weightlifter, I'm constantly scavenging for interesting content to watch. ATG, Hookgrip, nor Yilin Yang (for my Chinese dose) all do not post consistently, and Catalyst Athletics is more informative, like a library that you go to whenever you need to research something. Weightlifting House is properly delivered deliberately interesting sights that weightlifting have to offer. While ATG and Hookgrip may have a slightly bigger name at the moment, I definitely feel like Weightlifting House will become something big. Thanks Seb for your hardwork and sweet intro. Best to you.
I totally agree. I think the voiceover analysis really sets him apart. I think it will draw in non-weightlifting fans too-- it's like a drama unfolding
I don't really enjoy Boadys style but god damn he's strong and fast! Pilesnois technique is just perfect. Awesome clip and commentary!!
Boady is really talented. I agree re: his style and sometimes his less-than-humble attitude. But holy cow can the guy lift.
The speed with which he moves that 50kg in his warm-up is phenomenal.
These back room session videos are becoming some of my favorite weightlifting content...EVER!! Keep it up!!
I really hope you do some more videos on Pliesnoi, his technique is beautiful.
Those videos with commentary are great!!! Thanks for making them!!! I hope you can keep up with this amazing work!!! In my opinion, your channel is the best weightlifting channel on youtube right now!!!
That means a great deal! We have plans to be doing this kind of content, plus new ideas, for years to come.
These battles are great. Please film more :) good job!

"He had a big pancake breakfast" was a nice detail, lol.
Everybody keeps sleeping on my boy jhonathan Rivas!!!, definitely capable of causing an upset in the 96s
I love Jonathan Rivas!!!🥰
Damn right. The 96s in Tokyo 2020 is going to be really interesting.
Tycho Brahe for sure!, it’s a shame that we may not see Tian Tao and probably not Rostami there though
O L yes he can efficiently and consistently snatch 180
The Candy King true, his clean and jerk at worlds was 212 so he’s definitely in with a podium shot
your videos are very interesting, keep up the good work. greetings from georgia!
Never even have to see a full second of these videos before hitting the thumbs up.
You are my kinda guy
national geographic-esque narrative about the back room power dynamics, very interesting to watch
I feel like I comment almost the same thing on every video-- but man it's just so cool to see this, and the analysis just brings me so much great context. I know how much work it is to edit these types of things, so I really appreciate all the work you're putting in to give us such great content!
This analysis is what weightlifting should be; no doubt viewership would go up.
What made me enjoy it more is your editing and calm narration xd Bravo!
These videos are great! good to see someone from Canada challenging the Eastern Europeans in the heavier classes
Awesome content Seb!
2:50 Watching the way Giorgi Asanidze was observing and analyzing Boady was priceless 😍
I really enjoy your series of these greatest duels, thanks for uploading!
That was great competition and video is once again awesome!
Respect to both...it will be a real pleasure to watch them in Tokio 2020...outstanding video ...and narration too.
Thanks for the upload. Love this stuff
I feel like with Boady, conditioning plays a huge role. What I see happening: Boady went all out on each lift, as shown, but he began to get tired (possibly it wasn't his day). That's why he becomes a bit more dormant. He felt himself becoming increasingly less energized. Anton saw that, boosting his morale. Anton played the timid warrior and waited for the lion to fall asleep.
Santavy is an absolute killer! ( get it? Cause he drove over someone)
Joaquín Cortázar Vega He is a real piece of shit
At least he turned himself in...
@@mohmj6815 He fled the scene dude. And he got off. Canadian system is as shitty as Boady is as a person
@@mohmj6815 yes turned himself in after fleeing the scene and sobering up.
15:40 : What an absurd jerk. lol
If he cleans up his clean he's definitely capable of over 215 in the Olympics
this video is so good! so well made and your commenting is on point and interesting to listen to! Well done!
Phenomenal display of the intricacies and the fascination for the sport of olympic weightlifting! Keep up the great content.
you really do so fantastic w these vids, from the commentary to video quality
Nice one Seb. Your commentary vids are 👌👌
Awesome battle! Spectacular lifts.
Amazing video Seb. Keep them coming!
Thanks Jakub! Glad you are enjoying them
I have wondered several times what was behind that. His speed and progress as a junior was phenomenal. Other sports are known for junior athletes not living up to hype quite often but not weightlifting usually because of the weight divisions.
amazing video seb
Thanks! Really looking forward to doing more of these battles.
Great vid Seb!
Keep the awesome videos coming!
This is a series I can get behind!
I am so glad you did a Video on ihm. I mirred him in the background of lashas video
I definitely he will become a bit more of a weightlifting house-hold name
Best weightlifting content possible
Just found this channel, great video!
Great work!!
Thank you.
Another quality video!
Nice work guys keep it up.
Georgia is the best forge of Champions!
I love the Georgian people and power.
Hello from Russia ✌ 💪 🇬 🇪
Looks like anton may have tweaked his wrist on that last CJ attempt, its wrapped up pretty good for the handshake with Boady
Damn it's almost like Pliesnoi hit Santavy with a car and just drove off. Great performance
18:22
I love that sportsmanship.
I love this channel
Great video
WH is killing it with these videos!
really need more videos of pilesnoi out there
Step 1 get drunk
Step 2 drive
Step 3 hit and run
15:20 lol
they look like long lost brothers
I'm like 13, 150 pounds. Haven't really tried deadlifting but I was able to go up to 205 pounds. My hands started hurting though. Would you say that's decent.
Yes, that's decent. If you can have someone show you how, full range of motion squats would be better.
great and informative video, could save me several years of efforts in my training and improving period. I personally would preach Anton's approach of saving energy and efforts before one really needs them somewhere over 90%. But that is probably because of similar post-soviet or just Ukrainian weightlifting schooling. Thanks anyway, great thoughtful job.
BOADY is an absolute tank
Very interesting Love this vid the 96’s are gonna be a war seems like they always are it’s nice to see a good competition at times instead a steam roll like lasha vs anyone 😅😅
you were right
4:30 - The first, of course, world record holder Sir Robin Rowdin. lmfao best subtitles
look how he starts to move his head after IM BLUE DABODIDABODA at 4:53
With blue Roms😋😊
Why would Tian not be selected for the Olympics? I think I missed something.
Where did Nicolae Onica go ? He came in a looked super solid at 2018 worlds and I haven’t seen him since.
doping suspension
@@grymek737 well I know nowwwwww
boady has THE CAKE
Does anyone know why Anton retired from weightlifting?
very cool
Why Tian Tao probably wont be selected for the Olympics ?
Great vid man, keep it up !
China can only send 4 males and unfortunately Tian isn't one of them, because there are others who are more likely to get gold
@@jiaxinglin4169 who do you think those 4 male will be?
@@andreas49er My guess would be 61kg, Li Fabin; 67kg, Chen Lijun; 73kg, Shi Zhiyong; 81kg, Lu Xiao Jun or Li Dayin, since he is clearly capable. That being said, a battle between Tian, Meso, Rostami and Ilya in the 96kg category would be legendary
Who is lifting for China in the 96 kg class, if not Tian?
Euros, Pan-Ams, and Asians will all have exciting battles. Tsikhantsou vs Pliesnoi, Rivas vs Santavy, and Hassona vs Tian. I hope Sobirov will make a return sooner than later. Could be the first to top Moradi's 186.
We will be at the Asian and European Championships getting as much footage as possible!
Pliesnoi's snatch seems textbook, while his clean seems unconventional. Any thoughts?
Can someone catch me up - why is Tan Tiao not going to tokyo 2020?
One of the greatest duels is between Boady's car and that one pedestrian's spine.
@weightliftinghouse is it just me or does Anton not quite fully extend on his cleans?
Very typical of Ukranian technique (where he was originally from). Particularly during warm-ups they focus on full extension at the knees, gradually extending more and more at the hips as the weight increases.
what happened with Morady, he goes to Tokyo?
If you say "one of the best i've ever seen" when talking about every single lifter, it starts to lose its significance. santavy isn't one of the best, his ego is terrible and his form is worse.
It was one of the best battles I've seen. Partly because it is rare to get in the back room, and partly because they were so close. I'm also not convinced his form is that bad. The bar stays very close, his bar path is good, his finish is very vertical. It's not conventional but I definitely don't think it is as bad as you are saying.
You have no need to be so judgemental and rude.
Mueller Nikolaï Imagine saying a 96kg lifter that snatches 180kg has shit form 😂 Come on mate..
@@BFlanagan97 absolutely, you don't get to these weights having bad form especially not the snatch.
@@WeightliftingHouse Obviously I'm exaggerating when I say it's terrible. But when you say "the best I've seen" you put him on the same level as others such as Lu, Ilyin, Lasha, etc, of whom you've said the same. And while he is very good (competes at world level), he simply isn't up to par with these guys.
Sonethjby happen to antons right hand?
Boady, I used to compete with you man. I did not continue as you did and I’m actually so happy to see how far you have come. I used to train with Abdullah, we were so young lol
Cool
@@jaxonsevero1045 what do you think is cool?
@@Mrpoopgo12 I met Abdullah last year at senior nationals
@@jaxonsevero1045 I couldn’t tell how you meant it, I’m glad it was out of respect for Abdullah. You have a lot of talent for your age, ridiculously strong. All the best to your future in the sport 💪🏻
Somebody please put me out of my misery - what's the name of the theme song for these videos? What TV show was it from? I remember hearing it as a child but I can't rememberrrrrr
Matlock ;)
@@WeightliftingHouse RIIGHT THANK YOU!!
Why did they give Anton another snatch atempt?
a bug went in his eye
The time started early and he had to rush his lift making him fail it.
too bad adam maligov is on doping ban, his best lifts were 180/220 in 94 kg class
Why did Tian Tao not have a spot for Olympics?
can anyone tell me the name of the intro and outro song
Homie where are their belts?
Boady just yeets my max up like it's nothing...
How tall are they?
why wont be tian tao at the olympics? how many athletes can one country sent to the olympics?
Four females and four males
Four fales and four mefales
He has less chance of winning gold in his class than the other males in China.
Btw Plesnoi took 3rd at the world championships :) No hate just so people know he got on the podium.
Is Pliesnoi beltless?
Boady Champ
Красава Антон)))
I was wrong, weightlifting does need more editorializing.
Hey Seb! Thanks for recording the warmups and competition lifts. As a weightlifting fan, I appreciate you bringing us the behind the scenes look at competitions...but please save the commentary for the experts. For example, bring in the athlete or coach to talk about their technique and give insights to their performance and training block preceding competition, how warmups went, attempt selection, etc. Also, I noticed a few typos in the intro. I get that you’re trying to get content out quickly, but it helps to proof and just looks more professional.
220 Песному 100% по силам, скорее всего на кисть плохо лягла или еще что-то.
Tian tao goes with China, for sure, if he is a secure gold medal, it would be ridiculous
This isn't true. He might go, but there is a good chance they will not select him. Based on China sending just 4 male athletes, there are others who may have more chance. Shi Zhiyong, Lu/Li (depending on who is selected), Fabin, Chen, Tian all fighting for 4 spots.
@@WeightliftingHouse one thing is sure, Yang Zhe doesn't go, Lu goes, it is his last olympic, he deserve
@@haroldpepete Again, Lu might deserve to go, but it isn't up to the Chinese coaches to make that decision. The IWF will offer the spot to whomever has the highest Robi points after the Asian Championships. Currently it looks like it will be Li Dayin. The Chinese coaches could fake Li Dayin's injury however and take Lu instead.

Грузин молодец! Канадец -сильный,но суеты много.
why is it likely that tian isnt selectet for the olympics ?
fillleable team China can only send 4 male and female to the olympics, one being Shi zhi young, li dayin, lu xiaoxun, li fabin, Chen. All 5 of these guys have a higher chance of getting gold than Tian Tao so mostly likely not going to send Tian Tao but who knows.
Украинец выступающий за Грузию интересно очень
