Drive needs an MBR partition table and it needs to be less than 2TB total

1 Final note for this video which MW missed, MAKE SURE THE DISK IS FORMATTED AS "BASIC MRB" If you use the same tool he does theres a convert button right at the top you can use to convert from GPT or what ever its down as.
@TheLegend use the tool he shows there’s a button to convert from one to the other like my comment original says
@@Cynocles I kept trying but ntsf DRIVE not detected. So I checked and found my drive is GPT and not MBR. Is this the reason for PS3 not able to detect the drive?
@@michaelyapkf yes. You need to use MBR, not GPT.

@@AndreiB617 bit that mean, that you can only go up to 2tb. Higher is not possible with mbr then and you also cant do 2 different partions sadly.

Guys an easier way would be to format as FAT32 (so it's natively supported) and use ps3 ISO tools to create an ISO but check the box next to "split for FAT32" and it won't have to copy the files to the internal drive when you try to play it will just play from the external.

You can create ISOs by inserting your legally owned copy of whatever game you have into a PC and creating a disc image using deamon tools lite or something similar.

My game is in a folder on a FAT32 but MMan is saying there's nothing there when I refresh games.
btw you can copy games from external hard drive to internal and vice versa with multiman just select a game from games menu and hit Triangle and choose copy. This easier way than using file manager.

Great instructional video for someone that is new to PS3 CFW and Multiman. It was good that you showed how to play both ISO games and Games in folder format. What I don't understand is why would anyone want to use the folder format since it has to be used on a FAT32 partition? It just seems like it would be easier to use ISO's or convert folder format over to ISO's. That way you don't have to worry about splitting up files bigger than 4GB or formatting external drives into FAT32. I want to keep everything as simple, and as standard as possible. I would rather just use ISO's as my PS3 game format for all games. Because I am new to PS3 hacking there might be a reason for all that, but I don't know yet since I have only just started using a PS3 with CFW.

@@familieboss4862 I use the Bit Torrent protocol. I can find most any games on the popular tracker sites.
If you're not familiar with bit torrent, look it up it's not that hard but it takes a little more explaining than I can do here in the comments.
The plus on fat32 is that you still can use it for transfering music and movies natively on ps3 without multiman and bring it to another ps3 as well
@@GamerDan89 I never considered this. I only have one PS3, and I don't need to transfer music files between them. But I can see how that is a benefit if that's what you do.

u need to split it in 2 partitions, ps3 isnt designed to go past 1tb can be finnicky at 1.5tb
Forgets to mention even with CFW the ps3 wont read NTFS if its GPT partitioned and not MBR. Also needs to be smaller than 2TB

I tred this with the fat32 drive for god of war 3 and copied the files to the internal hd, but i only get a black screen and the game closes after a while...
good video i dont do this because of worrying about disconnect or power failures.

Thanks for the video i know its 2024 but hey free games on a og system, but just to let yall know that im using a external 2tb sdd, i tried to use ntfs i messed around and could never get it to work but when i change the ssd to fat32 worked like a charm i just put the game folder on the ssd and had to install managunz because multiman for some reason did not read the ssd but now im playing ps3 games.

The ps3 is the only machine with a usb port, computer or otherwise, that needs to be modded in order to recognise an external hard drive. Every time I use a ps3 I have a hard time wrapping my head around how it can be as bad as it is.

hey, I followed all the instructions and all the folders are correct but the game just wont show up on my games list on mmCm i went to the mmcm file manager and the folder is there but the game isnt showing up on the list.Can you please help?

Seems like the better way is via NTFS so you can "run" the ISO files off of the external.
I actually found a way to run ISO’s off a FAT32 USB

FCWENNEKERS well at the time I thought I did cuz I was able to run a PSXISO off the FAT32 USB but it’s not the same
FAT32 is probably better because it is supported by any ps3

@user-xm4em3gm5u didnt understand much from the top comments but 1 suggestion i could say is while having ur hdd connected , if you have installed multiman (i think its also called mmcm ) run it then go to the far left then downwards to an opinion about "switch to Multiman mode" or something along these lines, run it then after it restarts multiman go again to the far left (if it didnt do that for you) and click on the file manager
It should open a computer like page, go to the bottom left corner (similar to where the windows icon would be placed )
Click O to right click
Choose ntfs driver (not 100% if that what its called)
It should do a scan and refreshed the page then you'll get 2 new files in the root folder which are usb port 0 and port 1 and you should be able to open ur hdd

ik this is really old and you probably already solved this issue but mine wasn’t reading it either all I had to do was put my hd in fat32 format on my computer
I think you forgot to talk about GPT and MBR disks, mine were in GPT format so my games didn't showed up. Anyway great tutorial, keep it up !

yes if you go on multiman go to your hard drive and the games you want to move will be in the ‘game’ folder move them to the folder called ‘GAMES’ the folder should have a multiman symbol beside it

alot of ps3 games are pkg format. i put persona 5 on external and it made me move to internal to be able to launch it.. i only have 10 gb left on internal :(
my ps3 cannot detect the external NTFS drive. I did everything explained and i checked FileZilla cannot see the /dev_ntfs
I suppose 2 TB harddrives is the maximum external capacity? PS3 do not support GPT to my knowledge.

i can store about 4 to 5 decent sized games on the original hdd and tbh there arent that many i play all the time by 2022. so ill have to just leave them on the external hdd i have that doesnt work and put them on the system itself if i want to play them and delete them when i want to play sth else. i wanted to just have a larger library easy to get to but honestly compared with all this installing them before playing it isnt such a big deal. shrugs.. thanks for the video it had some good info on it.

Figured it out. Formatted my 2 tb to fat32 set as primary. Ps3 didn’t like it. Switched it to logical and same thing. So, I made a tiny partition and made it the prime and my ps see’s the big partition :)

I've attempted to install LBP through NoPayStation, and i followed a comprehensive guide to turn the pkg file into a ISO. When plugging in the USB into my ps3, it recognizes the ISO no problem, but as soon as I try to load the game, my PS3 goes to a infinite black void. I have no clue what is causing this issue, and hope to find some help from someone please.
Neither worked for me on 2 different hard drives. Not sure what went wrong. I have been following all the tutorials to the letter. If I go the iso route the games say they are corrupt and if I use the file versions they say an error code.
