Thank you doctor for the valuable information. Some argue that no need to do a normality test for likert scale data; it's non-normal always. A Likert scale can never generate normally distributed data. What do you think about this argument
Most studies in the human sciences mostly do not show a good normality compared to the exact sciences, but some Likert scale type items or whole scale cases show no statistically significant violation of the normality. Usually, other main tests like t-test, ANOVA and chi-square tests are omnibus tests and don't need a normally distributed data.
Hello sir, I have a doubt. What is the best way to test normality for likert scale data shapiro wilk or kurtosis & skewness . What test we should use. Also, if your data is normal according to kurtosis & skewness test but indicates non- normality according to shapiro wilk. What should we report and which one is more reliable ? Sir please do reply
Thank you Dr., If I want to plot QQ plot in Excel for Likert scale data points and we we have some duplicate ratings that how should we give Rank those duplicate data points ...For example we have data points 5,5,6,7 then what will be rank for these four data points , please ? Either this will be 1,2,3,4 OR different ?
For Likert scale data points with duplicate ratings, you can use the average rank method to assign ranks to the duplicate data points. In this method, you would assign the same rank to all duplicate data points, and then increment the next rank by the number of duplicate data points plus one. For example, for the data points 5, 5, 6, 7, the rank for the two 5's would be 1.5 (the average of 1 and 2), the rank for the 6 would be 3, and the rank for the 7 would be 4. This method is commonly used when creating QQ plots for Likert scale data, as it helps to preserve the ordinal nature of the data while also accounting for any duplicate ratings.
Excellent! It was so perfect.
Sir, i have a question do we need to test the assumption of both independent and dependent variables or we can only test the dependent one .

@@MohamedBenhimaPhD Hello Dr, does this mean we can use the ordinal data to show the data is not normal? because i am getting a value
@@jesintakumarimurugiah8984 Yes, you can briefly report that

Can we use normality test to check whether our population is normally distributed or not?
