Dwele is truly paying homage to Bobby Caldwell...the complexity of how this song can be portrayed,,,,,as for me that light is Christ ! Check for Bobby's library there are alot more songs that were played on R&B station's unlike today.....Good music is colorless!!!!
Great Cover!! Bobby on the original left a LEGACY but Dwele definitely adds a nice flare and is more SOULFOUL than JOHN LEGEND! I believe Bobby was going for soul on this one!! KUDOS!! Dwele is one of the most underrated of the few real SOUL artists of today!!
Wherever he is, Bobby Caldwell should be proud that a young gun has managed to exacute his classic with such candour.Dwele G blew me away when I heard his rendition of the track, as a featured artist on the PPP production a few years back on S. Africa's finest, Metro FM. I can see that he's tweaked it here and there but it hasn't taken anything away from the track but brought it to a status of flawlesness. A true gem indeed!
im glad he re-recorded this n polished it up... the unreleased version is good 2.. jus not as good.. I wanna hear him do Bobby's What You Wont Do For Love
My second favorite track on "Sketches of a Man." It's sooo soulful!!! He really does justice to both songs, and he completely make this version his own. The chorus is HOT! I keep waiting for Common to start his verse!
This is a great compliment to the original by Bobby Caldwell. That's why I love sampling. Most people wouldn't know about this song if it wasn't for Common. Dwele did a good job on this, however, BOBBY SINGS THE FOOL OUT OF IT!
Dwele, without argument, is the dopest harmonizer in modern R&B. Not since the heyday of Boyz II Men have we heard such richness and depth in vocals. The runner up would be earlier Musiq, when he was still the Soulchild
Para mim... esta é a canção mais linda de sempre... e a versão do Dwele não fica atrás da original, ainda hoje referida... ai que até dói, atenção a quando entra aquele BOOM BAP BOOM BAP.
To all let me sum things up a little here. Most if not all music of today from r& b, rap/hiphop... whatever has sampled music from the 70's. Thats an era where freedom to explore & minds were so opened. Instruments were used & played. 70s cats had teachers from miles, herbie hancock, quincy jones, ROD TEMPERTON" that cat produce all of micheal jackson best hits in the 70's & early 80's plus The old school funk band "HEATWAVE" jazz artists with a solid foundation. Much respect ot the old school
You're entitled to your opinion. I prefer Dwele's version because it has a smoother vibe to it. And I feel his version pays more attention to delivering the message of the song as opposed to simply trying to show vocal ability.
I had to favorite this song...ive listened to it everyday since sunday...i like the original too but as a producer/rapper dwele's version does it for me...and really brings out his vocal talent...he has a hellafied falsetto
Both versions are great.....but Dwele crooned it better...not to take away from Bobby because he's a great singer also....thanx 4 posting ibbysgurl....great song!!!!!!
Nice rendition Dwelle. Well done. But Bobby Caldwell also gets credit because with him this awesome song wouldn't be here for our listening pleasure.Salute.
I think the most important thing people need to remember is that Dwele wasn't trying to sing this better than Bobby, he was doing it to pay homage to his friend J Dilla- the greatest Hip-Hop and Neo-Soul producer of all time.
@TheFlamerOwnsYou or maybe someday, you will realize that music is not a competition and open your ears (and eyes, ha!) and discover how beautiful and liberating it really is.
This is such a great cover. Dwele deserves more respect/fame in the music world.

2020 still here:)) love this dude.

Still my fav song ever... It will be played at my wedding.

2024 and still as good, we need more music like this
This is so freaking beautiful with his voice on it!
That's some very clean, smooth R&B and we need that Brother. Thanks
im glad he re-recorded this n polished it up... the unreleased version is good 2.. jus not as good.. I wanna hear him do Bobby's What You Wont Do For Love

This is 5 stars, Grade A, props Dwele.
i personally like both versions. each have their own vibe and flow, so they're individually great :] we need more songs like this nowadays.

i love it when the beat kicks in, this song is so nice

Great Bobby Caldwell Cover! I can not think of any other artist that would have done a better job!
Check Tha Los - Open Your Eyes, the best cover I've seen of this song.
Yes Dwele is pretty dope artist!
Check Tha Los 's version of this. Dwele's version is good but I prefer Tha Los's version.

Both versions are great end of story. Why do you have to put one down to uplift the other? Appreciate both of them!!!
His music is just outstanding! btw great video ;)
Goosebumps!

Dwele is the "troof" aka "truth." I've been jammin this version for months. The original by Bobby C. is jammin too. Both are on point.

He's very underrated
Both versions are great.....but Dwele crooned it better...not to take away from Bobby because he's a great singer also....thanx 4 posting ibbysgurl....great song!!!!!!

Bobby Caldwell nails the desperate vulnerability that was needed for that song, his version is the best to me.
The original was great, and I don't even like going back that far! But this proves the neosoul treatment makes songs better haha.
I think the most important thing people need to remember is that Dwele wasn't trying to sing this better than Bobby, he was doing it to pay homage to his friend J Dilla- the greatest Hip-Hop and Neo-Soul producer of all time.
great post!

@TheFlamerOwnsYou or maybe someday, you will realize that music is not a competition and open your ears (and eyes, ha!) and discover how beautiful and liberating it really is.
This is a cover from "common the light" . I love Dwele too and its a good cover.....really made it his own!
It's actually a Bobby Caldwell cover.
