I was a paid up member of the BNP back in the day. I remember getting wrecked in discussions with people who were more educated than myself but coming away thinking I was right and they were just loony lefties. The only thing that changed my mind was eventually mixing with people from different backgrounds due to sports and realising that they’re not the boogeyman that were told they are. I hold very little optimism about the subject though as I work on building sites and the vast majority of the whites on site support these riots. There has to be integration initiatives put in place and more education for people on the matter otherwise this will only get worse.

They were a big problem as opinion-leaders, and especially historically, but they're actually somewhat marginal these days, they are more led than leading. You only have to look at shifts in the telegraph to see that aspect of the evolution.
They're reprehensible, but not really the problem these days. Not by far the worst problem. Their biggest contribution is, as silly as it sounds, a patina of respectability or mainstream-ness. They lack the high cognitive availability of social media, and the mechanistic underpinnings.

We only have to look at poland or Hungary to see how our government should've responded instead of calling a referendum on EU membership. Brexit was an opportunity for a small number of people to exploit the growing frustration among thr British public for their own interest, look at some of the financial restrictions we avoided by brexiting when we did, ofcourse this means nothing to the average joe bloggs but to a small number of people this ment millions if not billions.

And the Danish invasion and repaganisation of the Angles and then the Christianisation of the Danes themselves. And the Norman invasion and the fact our whole aristocracy is foreign. And the Jewish and Huguenot migrations. And the Empire.
If we all kept an eye on the fact that we are complicated mongrels and that until 60 years ago British citizenship stretched from Jamaica to India then we wouldn’t have this problem. Racism should be impossible to a properly self conscious English person. But then again it should have been impossible for the part Saxon, part Angle, part Frisian, part Wendish, part Jewish Germans and we all know how that went

    • @simonkapadia7582
      @simonkapadia7582 29 днів тому +5

I mean, race in and of itself is a construct. In the end, it's mostly a salient marker for other things, something highly visible that triggers biases, assumptions and generalisations.
Someone asked me the other day when the fact I'm mixed race had any impact on how I felt about the riots, to which I had to answer no, because no one can tell by looking at me, and so it has never been a factor in my life.
Even culture, in the end is an abstraction. Comes down to the people we interact with, and from whom we've learned expectations, norms, behaviours and beliefs, and a kind of pick'n'mix trolley of things we selectively choose from.
To some of us being British involves an identification with places, or with our concept of history, or with our beliefs about our ancestry, or to our sensibilities or sense of humour, or to the way people conduct themselves. None of those are fixed. A person who went to public school and then Oxbridge, and then into academia shares almost none of the specific configurations of perspective that someone from a different place, with a different community and family history and education and work background has.
They might enjoy some of the same things, they speak broadly the same language, have the same TV channels available to them, but their "culture" is not one British culture, it's two different concepts of what that means.
The important thing, is that no one "owns" being British. No one gets to take their country back from anyone else. As a whole, as a democracy, we can choose to say things are unacceptable, but only in that sense, only as a polity. Groups don't get to try and remove other groups.

I’m not sure they’ve been very fluid either because of the presence of a millennia old landed aristocracy. Within those class boundaries historically most people have identified themselves with the prevailing norms of their group.

We can debate whether this represents fully-fledged modern-style nationalism. Even if it doesn’t, it shows that the ethnocultural solidarities which make such nationalism thinkable were already around 2500 years ago. The Athenians felt a kinship with the Spartans which they didn’t feel with the Achaemenid Persians, and they were prepared to fight and die for it.

What is enabling the far-right in this country is the relentless, grinding and every worsening poverty and the absolute refusal of the generations-old neoliberal political hegemony to do anything about it, all cheered on by their media courtiers like this channel. All the far right do and why Reform has become so popular, is it gives them (false) hope and a scapegoat to hate. This is exactly was Mosely did. You are not going to hand wring or legislate your way out of this and return to your cosseted middle England bubble, without addressing the core problem. If the tories and Labour carry on as they are, Farage will not enable another Labour victory by splitting the tory vote, he will win. Yes, the solution is not hard. I think we need to stop using the term far left. It doesn't mean what it traditionally mean anymore when it was still applicable. Note that the far left authoritarian revolutionary militias marching around mountains and jungles with ak-47s hasn't been around in 40-50 years. Which all by never existed in that form in the UK anyway.
Look at China and Vietnam for example, not the happiest places on earth, but they're even more capitalist than the west now!
Our "far left" today waves picket signs for peace, pay raises, less government over reach into individual personal life, and minimizing corporate influence over government and economy, housing etc. There's nothing "far" about any of that, it's stuff that affects everyone everyday.

The Far Right is an extremely contentious name for the disappointed and bitter British Working Class that has lost its dignity and feels displaced in their own county. On the whole they are ex Labour Party members that feel let down. Robinson is a modern day Watt Tyler. He is of the people and they relate to him. He says what they feel. He is a rough diamond and far from perfect but he has a certain charisma. Sir Keith Starmer should start listening to the British Working Class and stop demonising them by referring them as the Far Right! This is like a red rag to a bull! I should not have to be writing this but I hate to see my country which I love tearing itself apart.

I'm white and working class. I don't feel the need to blame everything on brown people. Quite simply, the working class are a victim of torys they voted for. And those torys have pushed the blame for their failure on immigrants.

They don't want to be detained in the hotels. They want to have their claims processed.
"Send them home!" is pretty scummy.
That women says in that rant that they want benefits and handouts, and then complains they're taking 'all our jobs', when she is probably on benefits herself and the university educated and skilled workers seeking asylum aren't take her job.

They think what they are told. They don’t look rationally at all sides. Once the seed is planted it needs to be fed and the Tommy Robinson’s and Avi Yemeni’s of this world are masters at what they do. They are millionaires and people keep donating money and they keep asking. It’s embarrassing.
