Lol my uncle’s house meter failed while he was on a cruise during the winter. The house still got electricity thankfully as it was winter , he was not home and the house had electric heat, but the meter stop measuring the watts correctly. So he comes home, all is good. He pays the bills as they come in. Now, he didn’t realize it was not measuring what he was actually using I.e. it ran slower than it was supposed to. The first bill was low. It made sense, they were not home. But he doesn’t pay a whole lot of attention after that. 6 months later the electric company goes to house, discovers the meter issue and then tries to back bill him. Problem, no one has a clue how much wattage he used in this period versus what he paid. The electric company tried to scare him into paying but he didn’t bite. They dropped it when he got a lawyer, because no one could definitively prove what he used in that time period versus what he paid was incorrect.
Whenever I have rented a house or flat I was the one to call gas / electric / water / broadband… etc to set everything up. How would the utility companies know to send me a bill otherwise?
As an electrician I can tell you that sometimes there is a shut off box ahead of the electric meter. So it is possible to disconnect the wires going to the electric meter and then install new wires that go to the electric panel. This bypasses the meter. This way you can steal electricity.
I had my first apartment and I thought I had the water bill in my name on autopay. At the end of the year lease, I got a bill from the Renting company for 12 months worth of water because I apparently never paid it. Never got a bill in the email for it. It was being sent to the owner of the property and they made me responsible for it. They could have brought it up when I dropped off the check or called or emailed or anything? I paid for it and know better to check now, but that rental company really screwed up at the end there.

They send out a small card in the mail without any envelope and if it gets lost it's still our responsibility to pay a bill we know nothing about or didn't get. Apparently this woman isn't going to collect, I wish I could have recourse like the Defendants did. I have enough going on in my life to keep track of bills I DON'T get. I worry about paying the ones I DO get and pay them right away. The City got away with total B.S. on the lack of getting my water bill.
Most cities you can see your bill online, you should check you cities website. Then you can pay, likely right on line. Of course you would be responsible for paying regardless of receiving that card. You could also call and get the amount too. I’m a commercial property manger this is how I know all this. Good luck!
But the reason you didn’t get a water bill probably wasn’t that the previous tenant rigged it.
If they knew that the lights were rigged they are complacent and should be held 50% responsible.
If a landlord rents a place with rigged electricity the landlord is 100 percent responsible regardless if the tenants know or don’t know.
@@thomaswitte2971 The landlord didn't rig them
@@Dexters.LaBOREatory that doesn’t matter the only other person who can be held responsible besides the landlord is the person who actually rigged it. The defendants didn’t really do anything wrong here
judge judy is savage
Sue your son!
Good Evening Jesse.... Again.... Thanks NYPD
Learned a new word today: "gravamen" 1:08
That woman is accustomed to getting her way.
Her son was a THIEF and that mother thought it was a joke. Disgusting
Judge Judy, watch a single without snacking The Good Doctor
This lady is one of those that if she thinks it than it's truth no matter whom says she's wrong.
Those poor tenants 😩
She is basically passing the blame from her son to them. She tried to chnge the signatures to cover it up from her son
Plaintiff has a ton of nerve to sue her tenants for something her son did illegally
After 2 months you know you have a bill to pay.
Get your criminal son to pay up lady!
The plaintiff reminds me of the crazy Tupperware lady
3 freezers full?? BS...
When you move into a place you are supposed to call or even go down to the electricity office and get it in your name.
WHO IS HER SON. I JUST NEED TO ASK HIM A QUESTION FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE😂😂😂
the plaintiffs cara de fucci lmao
The landlord should have contacted all utilities to disconnect them. Then it's on the tenant to re-establish service. The utility company will want the tenant's credit info.
You can’t have 2 different accounts at the same address at the same time.. The plaintiff would have to first pay the utility bills. Then turn the utilities off to get them out of her name, so the defendants could turn them on in their name. Being a landlord she should know that already.
They’re all dirty in this case
The defendants didn’t get any bill and the plaintiff is at fault. And her son for scamming the electric company
Is the plaintiff rocking an 80s poodle perm? 😅
The plaintiff is really strange.
what is wrong with that lady?
Plaintiff's facial expressions are pretty annoying.
The plaintiff is insufferable.
Ah, yes. Another landlord that’s self entitled to believing that their tenants are responsible for more than their monthly rent.
You have to love the mental gymnastics of feeling that the defendants are responsible for bills they never received, but her son performing a blatantly criminal act is of no issue at all. She also believes the defendants were excellent tenants. Lady, the problem is your son, and you just embarrassed yourself on an international stage.
Both parties are responsible. Like the defendants, straight of said, they never got any utilities that means they didn’t even attempt to try and turn on the utilities in their names.

Have you ever dunked a PB&J in hot chocolate?? Mmmmm … one of my favorite breakfasts!
I don’t like the way the plaintiff said “Page 2”.
A bit on the snotty side
A lease is not valid if someone hand-wrote changes or additions without both party's signatures.
Why is she even in court...
Her son is/was the theif
Who right 😮😮😮
The plaintiff looks dirty.
I am here too
That plaintiff was something else. Just accept the fact your son did something illegal and HE owes you money for the electricity HE ILLEGAL RIGGED!!! Oh my lord🤦🏼♀️
Two of them with glasses at half mast.
Just think, these people get to vote!
Where the H*** a you find an apartment for $800 a month??? My apartment is $2300 a month! Where is this dream land of $800 rent?
The audacity. If she set up the electricity properly then she tells the electric company to turn it off so the new renters can get the bill in their name. The renters then either do it or have no electricity. Not your problem. But she wanted free electricity and to charge them but never sent even a fake bill. Idk, maybe she just didn’t think to scam them for a fake bill but when they were caught didn’t want to pay the price or make her bum son do it
Million dollar problem, just look at these so-called parents! She knew her son was a crook and a criminal! She had the audacity to come on TV knowingly uphold her crooked son!
The defendants used the electricity. they should pay it.
I don’t think they’re responsible, but they had to know. You are responsible for utilities and not getting an electric bill? They were enjoying free electricity. I don’t feel sorry for them.
