Great video, have just bought a iPad Mini 6 and am exploring all the new possibilities that it’s going to open up. Note taking is something I have not done before but am keen to learn.
Hi thanks Tom for this positive feedback on making notes on a mini. I just found a super portable keyboard after watching your video! It’s called textblade. I can’t find many videos on UA-cam that review it thoroughly including how to type special keys. Will you be interested to try it out? I’m very keen to see it!!!
I Use it together with my 2018 ipad pro 12,9. And I love that combo. The Ipad mini is perfect for note taking. Now I just wait for the zugu case for the mini 6gen to come out :)
As someone who has a 13.3 laptop and 4.x Smartphone, my tendence is to get an 10.x Ipad. This just feels as the sweet spot size for a tablet. Big enough to use apps like Miro and watch some videos, small enough to be a "on the road"-device
Hi Tom I have also secured the new iPad mini 6 in space grey. Yes I also use iPad Pro. The mini fits the inside pocket of my jacket pocket. Very handy for taking notes when out and about. I use apps that sync across devices, so when I’m back at my desk the notes are on the iPad Pro. What could be better and more productive! I have found another gesture for taking quick notes, swipe diagonally across the screen from the bottom left corner. You can also add to that note as the day moves on, awesome. I normally use BookBook as covers for my devices. For the iPad mini I will buy the SurfacePro, when it is available. Twelvesouth, manufacturers for both of the fore-mentioned products are not the cheapest but they are very durable and last years. I’ve written this post on the mini while standing in my kitchen, my wrists and hands do not ache one little bit. Another reason to add a mini to one’s productivity.

@@paperlessmovement This is a very good argument. During very personal talks the IPad Mini indeed enables more subtle notes. If functionality comes close to the IPad Pro it would be perfect for my work.
Hey Tom, thanks for the very useful comparative review. I purchased the iPad Pro 12.9 intending to use it at the office with Procreate but also out in the field for apple notes and sketches. As it turns out, this really doesnt work out in the field - once I have added a protective case (I use the Zugu case) the 12.9 inch is much too heavy. If I am walking around making notes on a survey, I literally start to get pain in my arm and hand, so I end up switching to a paper notebook. Also the battery life of the 12.9 is not great actually. So looking at your review of the mini I'm thinking this could work much better out in the field or at meetings. Thanks also for all your reviews about Apple notes - I'm finding new ways to use this excellent app.
You must be German? I've worked in airports where we had a lot of tourists from all over the world, and the German passengers were the only one who found it important to include if they were dr's, dr. Ing., and such. Found it interesting.

I think they either cheaped out on the display or all the apps needs to be updated. Most apps don’t even stretch out to use the whole screen. The display on my iPhone 12, iPad Pro 10.5 and iPad Pro 12.9 M1 are miles easier to read. Right now, as I type this review, Imagine reading size 4 font in MS word….. the speakers and the front facing camera are very good though… I have to give them that, maybe iPadOS 15.1 beta is causing the display issue…love to hear what others think before I return it. @@paperlessmovement im talking about buying the new ipad mini (gen 6) and using one Pencil gen 2 for both of the devices (my 2018 pro that i already own and the new 2021 mini gen 6 that im planning to buy)
I feel I must point this out: I have the iPad Mini 5, and it does open Apple Notes when you tap the Lock Screen with the Apple Pencil. However, the Lock Screen has to be on. Example: When you open the flap of a folio case, the iPad screen turns on automatically, and that’s where tapping your Pencil on the screen will work. It unfortunately doesn’t work when the screen is black/off, so that’s definitely an advantage to the Mini 6. Despite that and the Mini 6 utilizing the Pencil 2, I would rather keep my Mini 5 with Pencil 1. Not enough reason to upgrade if the only advantage is the Pencil 2 and screen size (still have the 2017 version of iPad 12.9” Pro that uses the Pencil 1). The Mini is definitely the best for digital note taking, journaling, and planning.
Thanks for bringing this up and thanks for explaining how to make it work. 👏 It is a minor thing to open a new note from switched off screen. I agree. However, it is one more step I am happy to save with the new iPad Mini setup. Also for the way the Apple Pencil 2 attaches and charges is just much more convenient. Is it a must have? Probably not if one is on a budget and can get an iPad Mini 5 a lot cheaper.
@@charlenejo2490 It would depend on your needs really. While Split Screen does work on the Mini, the real estate you will get will be similar to having two iPhone 12 Pro Max phones side-by-side (if the two windows you use are the same size). It’s enough for some productivity tasks like studying, reading/writing, digital planning, budgeting, photo editing, etc. Things like drawing or video editing might need a larger part of the split screens.

Check your Apple Notes settings. Also ensure the screen is switched off (not showing home). I explain more details in the course if you want to learn how to master Apple Notes. www.paperlessmovement.com/courses
@@paperlessmovement thx Tom enjoy new year cheers
Apple: your next computer is not a computer
Also Apple: iPad Pro isn’t enough, you definitely need another one 😂😂😂
😂👍
ESR cases are pretty smooth and dust free comparatively
Very nice vlog, how i wish i have my own ipad too but sad to say and accept what I can do is watch your vlog only all over again. 😔

Thanks for subscribing and the kind feedback 🙋🏻♂️
Good video, nice background as well.
Thanks 🙌
Thank you so much for sharing your opinion about this new iPad mini 6
You are very…Welcome! 😁👍
Thanks for this.
You are very welcome, Richard!
I upgraded to the 6 from the 5 and got a sizable trade-in value from APPLE
How much did they give you for your trade in?
I think Jelly effect is not good to reading and note taking.
So you own an iPad Mini 6 and are having those issues? I don’t. 🤔
The link for the keyboard doesn't work (maybe just in the US). What's the name of the keyboard so I can just Google it?
My apologies for the inconviniences! The brand of keyboard was discontinued. I've updated it with a link that includes another keyboard that I already reviewed and that even has a touchpad: geni.us/AmazonFoldableKeybJC
I’ve used this keyboard for a while and it is Spot On! It is my portable with my 2018 12.9 Pro & ‘antique’ 7 Plus😂. The mini 6 will fill the gap nicely👍
I ordered the ESR magnetic Case for the iPad mini. It looks like the Apple Original version but with a little slope to provide the attached Apple Pencil from drowning and it protects both long sides of the iPad whereas the apple one only protects one of them. And it costs just 17 euro.
Foldable keyboard link not working.
Sorry for the confusion! The brand of keyboard was discontinued. I've updated it with a link that includes another keyboard that I already reviewed and that even has a touchpad: geni.us/AmazonFoldableKeybJC
link does not work for the foldable keyboard !
Sorry, Bob, for the confusion! The brand of keyboard was discontinued. I've updated it with a link that includes another keyboard that I already reviewed and that even has a touchpad: geni.us/AmazonFoldableKeybJC
👏👏👏👏👏
Is there jelly scrolling?
Didn’t notice anything
cheers mate,
can i use 1 apple pencil (gen 2) for both ipads? (i own the 12.9 2018 version for my engineering degree)
i wanna grab the new mini for content consumption and chill browsing in bed
You are very welcome! Unfortunately the Apple Pencil 2 doesn't work with the older version iPad Mini 5. :(
@@paperlessmovement im talking about buying the new ipad mini (gen 6) and using one Pencil gen 2 for both of the devices (my 2018 pro that i already own and the new 2021 mini gen 6 that im planning to buy)
@@yairman4 ah got it!! Yes this works and I also only use one Apple Pencil 2 👍
@@paperlessmovement thanks mate, great video!
Good insight! Good Video!
Thank you 😃👍
I feel I must point this out: I have the iPad Mini 5, and it does open Apple Notes when you tap the Lock Screen with the Apple Pencil.
Do you know if the screen would be too small for split screen?
@@charlenejo2490 It would depend on your needs really. While Split Screen does work on the Mini, the real estate you will get will be similar to having two iPhone 12 Pro Max phones side-by-side (if the two windows you use are the same size). It’s enough for some productivity tasks like studying, reading/writing, digital planning, budgeting, photo editing, etc. Things like drawing or video editing might need a larger part of the split screens.
Great review and recommendation Tom 🙏
Thanks Mark!
Thanks
