As a photography producer who has produced food shoots for some of the biggest companies in the biz, I am so glad that you explained a bit about what a food stylist does. It's a super complex job in terms of prep, timing (timing is so complex and super critical), logistics from the prep area to the actual set, etc. I remember as Easter shoot I did years ago where we had 4 stand-in hams and 3 hero hams. The whole crew got tons of ham afterwards. Anyway, it's so nice that you acknowledged and honored Suzy in a such a kind way!
YES YES YES YES YES TO BOOK CLUB!!!! How fun would that be!!!! I have a whole shelf in my walk in pantry of cookbooks. It's been ages since I've grabbed a vintage cookbook. You are inspiring me Carla.... Love it!!!!
i love watching you cook anything! i think watching you cook other people's recipes would be inspirational as i'd get to learn what you take from it etc so please do! it'd be a nice change of pace, not that one is necessary
More cookbook content! Especially the vintage idea could be cool. It’s interesting to see how you approach a written recipe. Thanks for sharing all your recipes and knowledge. Some of your recipes are now traditions in our home 🙂.
I buy at least two cookbooks a month. I make a handful of recipes from each but would love to hear about previously published recipes that I haven’t yet tried. Great episode!
yes, more cookbook! maybe even mini-series of culinary school and cooking jobs rediscovery (advice you still carry and techniques you no longer adopt etc)
I love, love, love this. I just made a video that shares ways to find meal ideas, and one of the ways is to purchase cookbooks or borrow cookbooks from a local library. It's amazing how many new ideas you can discover just by browsing the table of contents are flipping through the pages. So yes, we'd love to be a part of your cookbook club! 🙌🏾
oooo you could do a really fun series on recipes from different time periods from your books! would also love hearing about what recipes you always go back to
Yes to more cookbook recipes! Because even though I have some great books, I'm horrible about cracking them open and cooking from them. Thank you for explaining about food styling and the relationship with writing/testing, editing, and photography. I'm an editor and worked with a food photographer who would do the styling for a small recipe feature in a local monthly magazine I edited, and we definitely ran into errors because the recipes came from restaurant chefs who barely wanted to take the time to give us a recipe. 😜 Whichever one of us got to the recipe first would flag the weird stuff for the other person. She was a pro and it was so satisfying collaborating with her. Please nerd out about cookbook process anytime, I'm here for it!
The book club would be a great idea and maybe cooking some of your favorite recipes from them as well. I'd like to add something different to my standard cooking as well.
Can you put a link to Susie's book in the description? I was able to find it, but it'll make it easier for others to check it out. Thanks, Carla & Crew!
I need to know where that little red towel is from. Otherwise I will post about it in the 'missed connections' section of my local paper. I hope it ends up in the guft guide this year!
I was having a crap day. And then I watched this, which kinda bitch-slapped me out of it. Your channel is about more than cooking and and good food...I hope you know that!
just curious what was the rationale for not using the meat bones to cook stock (in French cooking education). would that make the stock look unaesthetic (cloudier)? I've only seen recipes (in the US) where they prefer using bones in the stock preparation... thanks for the video
The book club sounds like a great idea to me.
More cookbook content, please!
90% gossip, 10% recipe, here for it
I do like the idea of book club. I would really like to know more about your collection 😄
