  • You probably know all you need to know about the Honda Civic by now: it was our car of the year, and is now offered as a stylish coupe or practical hatchback.
    With impressive efficiency, practicality and technology, it’s hard to beat this compact car. But one thing is for sure, the new Civic isn’t as sporty or exciting as it used to be, and it might be a while until a new Civic Si hits the market. So what should prospective sporty compact car buyers do? Well Hyundai has the answer with this, the Elantra Sport.
    This turbocharged Elantra will remind you of the sporty, fun Civics of the past. It features an aggressive design, a punchy engine and a unique suspension set up. We lined it up against a turbocharged Civic to see if it’s it’s good enough to get right now, or if you should consider waiting for the next Civic Si.

    To all the haters saying it isn't a fair comparison. The Hyundai is 3000 dollars cheaper and offers more power and better rear suspension. The interior features, Honda is better but the Hyundai is a better drivers car. It ain't the 90's anymore

      Racist Bassist Hyundai is more of a single person car. The civic is more family friendly. More trunk space, more leg real room, much more safety features, etc.

      skunk1955 really have to seen issues all over the web the civic are have more problems the the Hyundai this days you want to know why. First, the 2016 civics are all have issues with there infotainment system and second they have cracked engine blocks and Honda doesn't want it announced to the public that they have a problem you don't have to lose money so how is that for reliability so have fun with your busted ass civic:)

      Hey guy sorry i wasn't more specific, i was referring to the product itself. Feel better? Hyundai just fits my taste more with what they offer rather Honda. I do like the Civic's exterior design, known reliability but the interior feels like step back with the look of the plastic on the center dash. The gauges ughhh why!? The previous generation looked like they were from the future where ironically this new gen looks dated. Civic is a good car, but in terms of these two definitely going with the Elantra Sport.

    That was a comparison to the wrong trim of the Civic. The Touring is their top of the line trim. It is purchased by buyers that value comfort, technology, and practicality over performance. The proper comparison for the Elantra Sport would have be the Civic... wait for it... Sport. It has a punchier engine and a center mounted exhaust. You also get that standard with a 6 speed manual transmission. It also has trim features similar to the Elantra. It loses the Honda Sensing suite (adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, collision mitigation braking). I'm very surprised that AutoGuide would produce this sort of a video. Still a fun watch though.

      Then Hyundai will match with a better engine. Honda isn't what it was in the 1990's. Kia and Hyundai are the new standard. Honda's look like plasticity shitboxes.. look at the Civic bumper, it's all chrome covered shit plastic. They just don't care anymore.

    • @1quickster
      @1quickster 7 років тому

      The interior of the Elantra looks like it belongs in the 90's. The civic interior got the Elantra beat. The only thing Honda didn't bring is a 200 horsepower engine. The Elantra GT has at least 27 more horsepower over the Civic. Next time, compare the Elantra GT to a Civic Si. It would be more of an even comparison. Let see if the Elantra has replace the Honda Civic as the benchmark for small cars.

    People don't want to give Hyundai credit or admit how far they have come. Hyundai is a competitor FOR DAMN SURE. THE BRAND SAVED THEMSELVES. Consumer Reports and J.D. Power recommend EVERY car in Hyundai's line up. They still aren't the "best" but who is? I mean really we live in a world where people judge each other off how big their house is and what kind of car they drive. People still wouldn't buy Hyundai because of the badge no matter what. The Elantra won this though for me.

    I used to be a big fan of Honda in the past and the 2003 Honda Accord V6 was the best car I ever owned. My 88 Civic also ranks up there along with my 2008 Mazdaspeed 3. I haven't driven any recent Honda products, but I know they have gone the way of Toyota, which is why I opted for the Elantra Sport and boy, what a car! The past two Hyundais I owned were a 2015 Santa Fe Sport and a 2012 Sonata hybrid, which both had tracking issues which are gone now due to the new suspension setup. You can't get an all round better car for the money. Totally happy with my purchase. Night and day from and day from any Elantra of the past. Great exhaust note , peppy engine, flat steering.

  • @Soh90
    @Soh90 7 років тому +1

    I've driven the Civic and it's definitely not "vague". In fact, it's quite engaging. Now the steering is no EM1 Civic, but by today's standards it's nicely weighted and very accurate with none of that dead on center feel like some cars. I also like the Civic's interior, a luxury car it is NOT, but it has nice features and Honda tried their best to hide the cheapness of the car. Now I've never driven the Elantra Sport, but most reviews are pretty positive. Also, I appreciate the fact that Hyundai paired a 6 Speed Manual with the 201 hp turbo motor. However even in sport trim the Elantra isn't any faster than the Civic that isn't even trying to be fast. When the Si comes out - the true competitor to the Elantra Sport - the Si is going to eat its lunch both on the sales chart and most likely on the track as well.

This is somewhat of an unfair comparison if you ask me. The civic is a sportier version of the standard civic. The Si is the true sports civic like this is Hyundai's sporty car. Just saying ( and yes the type-R is the true sports car for the civic, but the turbo civic is not ment to be a sports car just a sportier one) 👌👍

      O Arias The Elantra sport is not Hyundai's Si competitor. The upcoming Hyundai N Elantra will be.
      Also, some amenities this vehicle is standard with include HID headlights with dynamic bending, led tail lights, push to start, and smart opening trunk. It also starts around 23k with a stick. Also, there is currently $2500 in rebates BEFORE negotiations on this car, meaning that in addition to costing less on the sticker, it will still cost at least $2500 less since Honda never offers incentives.

    The Civic may offer the Honda sense package but it also cost and quite a bit. Compare what you get in the Elentra (base) to the Civic and you see Hyundai gives you more for your $ IMO.
    They're both great cats. You can't go wrong with either. I would choose the Elentra myself.

    So hold on. You're taking a car with a focus on luxury, and a car with a focus on being sporty, and comparing them to see which is sportier? This seems a tad redundant. Instead of comparing it to a Civic Touring, either wait for an SI, compare to it to a manual EX-T, or any other possible car in the sporty compact class? ST? GTI? WRX? A CVT Civic and a 6MT Elantra Sport will mos likely never be cross-shopped.

  • @chairrules2007
    @chairrules2007 7 років тому

    This comparison is a perfect example of Honda's brand reputation price markup. This civic cost's more than the Elantra, and the Hyundai Elantra is clearly a better car overall. Yes the civic has higher mpg's, the Honda reliability rep, and more tech (which I could care less about), but the Hyundai is a much better car overall, especially if you care about DRIVING. It should be noted, that I have test driven both vehicles, and currently own a Honda product.

      Boateng 2018 He was comparing the top of the line Honda Civic Touring to the Hyundia Elantra Sport. The Touring is focus on technology and comfort and it damn near fully loaded. They needed to compare the Elantra sport to to Ex-T trim with a manual transmission or the hatchback LX or Sport(180hp/177ft lbs with the manual) which come in under $22k.

  • @googlewolly

    Claims that the new Civic isn't as sporty as it used to be; yet, it's faster than even some past-gen SIs. Not sure what he's talking about, as the 10th-gen 1.5 Civics are the most sporty Civics yet.

    I would much rather choose the blind spot monitoring system that the Elantra gives you, than that lane watch camera because the lane watch camera is only on the passenger side and rain and fog could mess it up. Honda could of spent a little bit more money on a actual blind spot monitoring system. Maybe they should take lessons from Hyundai on what technology really is in the market today.

    Why would you compare the luxury trim Civic to the sport trim Elantra and knock the former for being boring in comparison? I know that's been said over and over again in these comments, but I'll add that the inverse comparison would have had the opposite result; the Civic Sport would have won over the luxury trim Elantra for the same reasons the Hyundai won here. The truth is both cars offer a sport version (not including the Si) and the winner of this test was predetermined at the trim selection stage; whichever sport model was chosen was going to win.

    Honda makes great cars but....we all have to remember, they're compacts! Civic is way nice, but it's too big and too expensive to be a compact....I do like the fact that Hyundai has still kept it simple yet very exciting with their Elantra.... For 27 grand it might as well be 30 grand ...and for 30 grand you might as well by an Accord. And btw, Hyundai has rebates!

    • @AutoGuyBri
      @AutoGuyBri 6 років тому

      I think the hate is partly due to the fact that Hyundai owners try to compare the reliability and quality of the Hyundai to a Honda, to which there is no comparison. If there was, a 5 year old Hyundai would sell for the same price as a 5 year old Civic. However, they do not. Market Value is dictated by these types of facts and to be honest, I have never seen a Hyundai with 250,000 kms on it. I have seen Honda's with 350,000+ km's on them though.
