Wow, we were lied to by Usopp, told off by Tsuru, narrowly avoided the wrath of the legendary pirate Down D. Stairs, ate at Baratie, played Binks no Sake on Going Merry, took the Zoro path to find a boat - what a great pirate adventure!
The fact that I (who only saw the first couple episodes of the One Piece anime) was able to watch and enjoy the entire first season of the live action show with my GRANDMA (who knows NOTHING about the anime or manga), really says something about how good it is!😄
As an expert on one piece anime and manga I can say that the live action is not really all that connected to the original story; it made up a lot and became an almost independent thing. It’s good though. It’s like pirates of the Caribbean with a one piece theme.
@yozarian86 then you aren't an expert. Season 1 is totally conected. Even Oda himself was in the project. The only changes in season 1 are Garp part was originally at Water 7 saga not at East Blue saga. Hacchan isn't there, and Jango too. Anything else is like the manga, the original work from Eiichirou Oda-sensei.

I have no complaints about the changes, but it barely even resembles the source material
