  • Datil Well Campground was our last stop in New Mexico. After visiting some campgrounds and seeing the sights in southern New Mexico, we headed northwest towards home. We needed a couple of days to rest and Datil Well was a perfect campground for enjoying quiet days. We visited the Very Large Array on one of the days, but pretty much just relaxed at camp.

I have driven past the VLA a number of times and have always wanted to stop and find out more but was never able to do so. That campground is a great find, even without hookups! So many campgrounds are becoming ridiculously expensive! Were the toilets pit toilets? Magdalena is one of my favorite small towns in New Mexico. Thanks for the tour!

Thanks for watching. I hope I get the opportunity to stay at Datil Well again sometime. I believe the toilets are pit toilets, but I did not check as we have facilities in our camper.

Topo map and GPS show the campground at approximately 7,400 feet above sea level.
