Excuse my ignorance. Muslims believe that the qur'an is a revealed by God and and then recorded by Mohammad, right? Do they have any accounting for 'recorder error' as we see within the Christian Gospel (which is, of course, a divinely inspired text but not one which is directly transmitted)?

The way that revelation was transmitted is something along the lines to a game of telephone: Allah tells Gabriel, Gabriel tells Muhammad. Muhammad tells his companions, his companions write it down and compile it.
The Gospels are writings of eye witness testimonies of the life of Jesus. (Ex: I see someone rob a bank and I write down what happened)
When it comes to “errors” for recording, most Islamic scholars refuse to accept that there are different versions of the Qur’an (Warsh and Hafs being the main two Qur’ans)
