Hi friends! Curious, will you make your roasted almond milk or you will stick to the store bought milk for your orgeat? If you take the lazy road, make sure to pick a Roasted almond milk... it makes a huge difference. Cheers!
Definitely homemade syrup with roasted almond! I love the Death and co recipe with a small amount of cognac and amaretto with rose water instead of the orange blossom. Another great one is the Aviary recipe with roasted almond soaked in almond oil before put it in the oven, its much more dark and complex, it can really change the cocktail!
Just made this recipe using roasted slivered almonds (had a fresh bag around)-my first time making and (knowingly) tasting orgeat! This is life-changingly delicious-amazing flavor combination with the orange blossom water! Thank you so much for this!!
It's fascinating to see how different brands and homemade versions can have distinct flavors and textures, ultimately influencing the taste of the final cocktail.
I made my girlfriend blind taste my selfmade version and a storebought monin. The monin tastes like bad simple sirup compared to the selfmade. You just get roasted almonds in your face and a longlasting, full flavour. Thank you for your great work on this platform!
I'm from Austin Texas in USA and a local company here, Liber and Co, makes a really great quality orgeat syrup. Their grenadine is really good as well.
Je vais me tenter la version avec les amandes, c’est très bien vendu! En tout cas petite mention pour le lait d’amande au packaging francophone! Merci pour la vidéo! Cheers!
Glad you're feeling better! That was a great video very interesting, how about another video with alternative orgeats? Like avocado pit, macadamia, etc. For people with almond allergies hehe
Le sirop d’orgeat est mon préféré ! J’ai parfois du mal à en trouver, merci beaucoup pour cette recette! Merci aussi d’avoir proposé une version végane de ce cocktail ❤
Great video. Thank you. My only criticism is that you don't include the Celsius temperature as well as Fahrenheit. But I'll be trying the roasted almonds recipe for sure
Great to see this! I always roast my almonds when I make orgeat & agree it makes all the difference! I also use a bit of salt & half white/half Demerara sugar, and I add an ounce and a half of Amaretto for a little extra almond flavor.
I made a couple of different orgeat syrups myself and I really enjoy stuff like that. So thank you for this extensive comparison :) One question though: Why didn't you take roasted unblanched almonds into the mix also? I've a feeling that the roasting together with the skins could be quite interesting 🤔
When I make fizzes/sours, I use my Hamilton-Beach spindle blender. I "dry" blender first and then "wet" blend. It's faster and much easier on your arms.
Thank you for the great video and the work you put into it. What I would love to see is your opinion on the Orgeat made by Maison Meneau. I don't know about other parts of the world, but here in Germany it sort of became THE go to standard among cocktail afficionados.
Great video. I'm allergic to almonds (they give me a splitting headache if I have a moderate amount), but I can get away with an occasional Mai Tai. I will definitely try out the lazy version. The orgeat I have is pretty good, but it costs US$0.05 per milliliter, and that would be real money for a tiki place. Making your own orgeat sounds like it should be considered a core competence.
This was exactly what I wanted to see. I make orgeat and give it out to my friends, and I'm just about to do another batch. I will definitely be using roasted blanched almonds this round. Side note, Monin is not a very good brand. I'm curious if a Liber and Co. would be a better comparison.
I’m lazy so most of the time I make the recipe with store bought almond milk but I add a little bit of bitter almond extract to give it that roasted, blanched almond flavor.
I made the roasted orgeat!! Supper easy used the left over almonds for yogurt and ice cream toppings. Huge difference between homemade and store bought. I will never buy orgeat again.
Im happy to hear that I won't have to look for the cheesecloth and just use almond milk from the store as I bet that coffee filter wouldnt work :) Just curious: is it a good idea to add one shot of brandy to it? I saw some recipes with that advice. And I guess that would extend its lifetime as well
@FilipDworniczak I actually got a paint filter from the hardware store, it does the job and is both sturdy and cheap, I also use it to strain soy yogurt and make cream cheese, it’s a useful tool in the kitchen if you enjoy cooking 😊
I wouldn’t recommend that due to their cyanide content. While it may be harmless to eat a few, when mixed with alcohol, it’s different so as I can’t be sure of the safety of those ingredients, I just stay away from them.
@@TrufflesOnTheRocks Thanks. I had seen recipes for people making gelato with them and using a lot of them. I don't like the taste of almond extract so I was curious about stone fruit pit but you're right.... better safe than sorry with unknown solubility. Yours is one of the only recipes out there I see that doesn't call for almond extract so I think I will make it your way and see how it goes :)
@@Elizaflower the extract surely adds the familiar almond taste we know but I recently realized that using double the amount of almonds to make the same quantity of almond milk, almost makes you feel like you added those few drops of extract without the mouthfeel of it (which is what I assume you dislike) Have fun with your experiments
There are some really good commercial orgeat syrups out there... The one Liber & Co. makes is wonderful as is the one by Small Hand Foods. Both are really expensive though
Not a big fan of Monin syrups to be honest... the grenadine in particular tastes nothing like pomegranate. More like cherries. So I prefer to make my own syrups when I can. I just need to scale down or portion carefully before freezing, as I do not want to waste (I make too few cocktails compared to the quantities of ingredients).
Totally get that! I do the same. P.S. Did you know that in France, Grenadine used to be a syrup of blended berries. Hence why french companies like Monin make their grenadine using more of that rather than pomegranate juice.
Hi friends! Curious, will you make your roasted almond milk or you will stick to the store bought milk for your orgeat? If you take the lazy road, make sure to pick a Roasted almond milk... it makes a huge difference. Cheers!
I still have never tried since almonds are either expensive or unavailable in my area ☹️
Homemade! What’s the shelf live on these ?
Store bought almond milk. It's easy, and it gets the job done. Glad that you're feeling better!
Definitely homemade syrup with roasted almond! I love the Death and co recipe with a small amount of cognac and amaretto with rose water instead of the orange blossom. Just made it. C’est délicieux!
The Orgeat syrup with the roasted almonds taste like haven 🖤 My new favorite!!

Woaw! Just made it, it’s awesome👌! The difference with the store bought one is astounding! Thanks TOTR 👊👍
Woohoo, you're fixed!!!! Grats brother. Glad you''re doing better and thanks for the Orgeat breakdown.
I’m glad you’re feeling better!!!
I'm glad to see you are able to taste again 😋 Cheers 🤘 great video as always!
Glad to hear you're feeling better! We need Truffles On The Rocks content for many years to come!!
glad to have your sense back, I always tought orgeat is a very long process, but seeing the lazy one gets second place, I think I'll give it a shot
It's fascinating to see how different brands and homemade versions can have distinct flavors and textures, ultimately influencing the taste of the final cocktail.
Just tried the roasted almond version... what shall i say? Just incredible! Thank you so much!
Thanks man!!!! That means the world to me! Appreciate the feedback x100000000

Thanks a lot! I'll try it for sure
Thanks for the priceless info. Definitely feel inspired to try the toasted almonds version.

You are a legend!
this is a great video!
Thank you!
I use store bought almond milk made from roasted almonds and it’s excellent.
My fav Orgeat cocktail is the Japanese cocktail. I just made a Walnut Orgeat and it really has a strong Maple syrup note.
Great video. Thank you. My only criticism is that you don't include the Celsius temperature as well as Fahrenheit. But I'll be trying the roasted almonds recipe for sure
Great video man!
I was just wondering, what difference does it make to first wet shake and then dry shake or the other way around?
Great to see this! I always roast my almonds when I make orgeat & agree it makes all the difference! I also use a bit of salt & half white/half Demerara sugar, and I add an ounce and a half of Amaretto for a little extra almond flavor.
almond extract works, too. When I'm using store bought almond milk, I always punch it up with the extract.

Thank you for the video I have just a couple of questions about it
Can I add vodka to last it longer?
If I can how much should I add it?

Did the one with the skin on taste any different?
How long can you keep homemade orgeat?
It lasted a couple weeks for me, but if I used store bought almond milk, it lasted a little longer
Can you recommend a orange blossom water?
I would love to see this as a blind test if you can tell which is which orgeat.
What is the shelf life of these homemade ones. Just curious I would like to make these at the bar I work at.
where did you get those swing top bottles?
great video, thank you :) how long can you keep the home made orgeat syrup in the fridge?
About 2-3 weeks
@@TrufflesOnTheRocks merci! Enjoy Bordeaux

325 Fahrenheit is about 160 Celsius. Great you can taste again!
Any thoughts on using toasted peach or apricot seed to add back in the "bitter almond" type of flavor?

Could you taste at this point? Being that you had covid
Any way to make orgeat without using the orange flower water? I've been searching on my city for a while but I just can't find it...
That’s usually super easy to find in any grocery stores. But if you can’t find it, just do without . It’s better than no orgeat at all 😉
Aquafaba? J’ai jamais entendu ca, cest quoi en fait?

So it’s sweetened almond milk

Hey man, I see you are mixing imperial and metric systems. It's fine, since we have access to the internet but still, might wanna keep to one of them?
I thought it was pronounced or-zhaa.
milk .... to quote one of my favorite movie The Princess Bride
"you keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means"
It would be better to do a blind tasting with these, otherwise you prejudge.
ORGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAT :D! #first
