Dr. John is the singer from the Family Channel commercial. He's a relatively famous singer from New Orleans. Jesse Frederick (with writing partner Bennett Salvay) sang the songs for all those 90s shows

If you're wondering, the dog seen in the cradle before the first game belonged to the model for the show, Marjorie Goodson. There were a few occasions during the show's run where she brought him onto the set to help out.

Trebek definitely though Ken Lee said, "I guess there's still one WILD" instead of "one TAKE" at 25:08 when he replied, "No, there's the green take though" since Karen had just found 2 wilds and most people are looking for the wilds when they call out like that. So, Trebek just assumed and responded without fully listening
Also, Ken Lee saying, "still one wild" is a weird statement to make because there's obviously still a take left since it just went unpaired in Karen's turn. So, it's more likely that Ken Lee misspoke and said "Take" (since he was just looking at that word) instead of "Wild". Either way, Trebek wasn't listening clearly, but his assumption that Ken Lee was going to say "Wild" isn't that strange of an assumption

If you ever want to see any clips of Trebek being loose on one of the shows he hosted, check out "High Rollers", a show he did in the late 70s. There's only a certain number of episodes floating around UA-cam, so any you do find are still pretty good.

@@jsterling03 That would have been during the first run Trebek hosted. The only episode I've found from that run was for July 4, 1975. The rest I've seen were from the 1978-1980 incarnation.

The late 80s/early 90s time period was the future the people in the mid-70s dreamed of.
Also letting the commercials roll feels pretty natural, creates good situations for humor, extends the video time and appeals to the nostalgic sense. Not a bad idea.
Definitely agree on the advertisements. It bumps the run time a few minutes which is good for analytics. Additionally it creates time when they can talk, advertise for their own stuff(instead of a long cereal commercial do 3 small ones?), and create humor in general.
There's a lot you can do with 15-30 seconds but it runs the risk of being too produced for this video series.

Helps to know what's on the line as far as prizes go, some of the contestants reactions to losing makes it worth it. They could skip commercials as long as they revisit their "Watchin Commercials from the _0s" as the complications have better commercials than an episode recorded would

Back in the day more people would have known what a "gnu" is, because before we all used the Internet, nerdy kids spent more time reading the dictionary. Exotic animals with notable spellings were often highlights of the dictionary, sometimes even with pictures. So things like aarvarks, yaks, zebras, gnus, emus and dodos ended up a lot in nerd puzzles like word searches and crosswords (and you still see them sometimes).
I like capybaras and nutria didn't learn about them till internet though. I preferred squirrel books at the library though when I was a youngen pre internet. Weird being old and seeing the changes in just my lifetime. To think things went from having to go to school(university)/ get an encyclopedia set/dictionary to learn about things... and now basically the entirety of the world's knowledge is in the palm of our hands and can be translated into any language in a second or two. The internet changed everything in the world, kinda crazy to think about
