Wood Turning - a Simple and Effective Geometric Project🧐

- An Unexpected Result !! As if by Magic, this video shows how the geometric pieces transform to form a unique and interesting pattern based on the curves created with the wood lathe.
I use ash and jatoba wood glued with epoxy resin.
The spalted effect is obtained by penetration of the resin into an enclosure under high pressure.
To avoid this effect, it is necessary to apply a first layer of high viscosity resin to prevent low viscosity resin from penetrating during casting.
This project is accessible to beginners who know how to use woodworking machines such as the band saw, table saw, jointer and wood lathe.
It is in my carpentry workshop that I film my work in a relaxing asmr type atmosphere in order to share my ideas with you.
Good viewing!!

Bon visionnage!!

It's so fascinating to watch the patterns emerge as the shape of the piece is developed. The accuracy of the placement of the wooden rods is key to the beauty of the artwork. Your skill in this is incomparable. Thank you for sharing this amazing work!
Gwynn❤️
Thank you very much, I am very happy that you like this piece😉in fact the precise placement of the pieces of wood defines the pattern and a few millimeters can change everything
I am amazed at how well you can glue those pieces in by hand so evenly without using spacers or gauges to set the distances. Well done!
Thank you so much for your comment Gary😉👍👍
Very pretty! Another intricately crafted piece. I think the spalted effect gives it character. I'll say it again, you obviously have artistic skill and a lot of patience to do such complex work. 👏👏
Lynn🌸
Thank you very much for your comment❤️
I am very happy that you appreciate this piece, especially since the Spalted effect is difficult to obtain on Ash naturally.
Beautiful! Well done Morgan
Thanks Mike😉👍
You have, what most Geriatric’s don’t have, a very steady hand! A delight to watch you and the result come to life..Magnificent! Thanks again.
Thank you John😉
you need very sharp gouges to compensate for the lack of firmness in your hands👍
You’re an amazing artist. I love this piece.
Thank you Lea😊❤️
Beautiful Bowl.
Thanks Lucille 🌸
Hi Morgan you have the patience of a saint putting this design together it looks lovely and I like the blue resin. Your videos are so relaxing and enjoyable to watch. The lidded bowl is magnificent and unique well turned you truly are a mastercrafter. Take care can't wait for your next fabulous design. Amanda xx

Don’t ya just love the way geometry and art work together, with the artist, to produce precision pieces. Beautiful artistic work, Morgan. I like the different sounds that the tools and other things make as well.
Thanks
Jean
thank you very much I’m very happy that you appreciate my work 🌸😊
Wow! Thank you for the dimensions as this looks like a wonderful project for a rainy weekend. I like the spalted effects myself, you did very well my friend.
John
Thanks darleen❤️
Yes this project is interesting because it is relatively simple to do and the result is satisfactory😉
Thank you for yet another perfect and satisfying piece to watch. I was so relaxed as the stress of life melted away while watching your video. The piece is so beautiful.

Once again, I love the commentary! What a beautiful piece! I can’t imagine how long it would take to do something like that. You must have a lot of patience, along with all of the talent!❤❤
Racheal
Thank you very much ❤️
yes indeed it takes a lot of time and patience to precisely position the small pieces of wood
Very nicely done as always, thanks for the inspiration. Stay safe.
Thank you very much Dtork😉👍
This is amazing. It had me think you could make a chess board lid for a bowl that held chess pieces. Or checkers!
ian thank, you for your comment 😉
yes indeed it is a good suggestion😉👍
I admire your patience, but it's worthy it. This piece is absolutely stunning! ❤
Big thanks Andrea😊❤️❤️

That is a very cool bowl.
Thanks John😉👍
Well, it seems that all you can do is make beautiful things out of wood. What another great piece.
Thank you Fred🌸👍
Very nice! I bet that would look pretty with a red mahogany stain or a reddish stain on it 😃
Thank you Laurie❤️
yes it's true that with this procedure we can allow ourselves other ideas
What a sweet looking piece

Thank you David😉👍
Way more precision than I can muster !! Amazing effect and skill 👍. I’m wondering if you thought about aligning the hex pieces grain ?
Alan
thank you very much for your comment 😉
No, I didn't think about aligning the grain of the wood🧐very good observation!
You do beautiful work, sir have a great day ✌️

Thank you so much for your comment 😉👍👍
Beautiful!
Thank you so much for your comment
You have such an amazing mind! Such patience and mathematical skill! To be able to formulate that conceptually & then carry it out! Kudos! So if the shape determines the pattern, do you know beforehand what pattern you want, do you do a practice run, do you decide as you are turning it on the spot, or do you have computer programming that can help you envision what possibilities there are pattern-wise? Of course, if you don’t wish to answer, that’s fine. I can conceptualize patterns in 2-D, but not in 3-D.
Thank you Susannah❤️
All my projects are drawn and calculated in advance but sometimes I readjust based on what I discover during woodturning.
I don't use computer software for the patterns because I draw them by hand and I make cutting plans. It's not very difficult, maybe I'll make a video to explain this one day😉
Really fantastic :)
thank you for your comment 😊
Great video. Cheers
Thank you so much for your comment 😉👍
Beautiful
Thank you gray grand 😉👍
A beautiful piece again. I admire your skill. Did you plan it as a covered dish when you started, or is that what spoke to you as you started working it? Thank you for the narrative as you worked it. I had to look up Jatoba... Brazilian Cherry.....
Craig
Thank you si much for your comment I am very happy that you like this piece😉👍👍
I had planned before I started that this piece would be a box and its lid and I wanted to create a spalted effect which would be visible on the top.
@@bawbreizhartwood looks good, and I like the salted appearance.
👏👏👏👏👏👍
Thanks Juan 😉👍
Beautiful piece as always, in no small part thanks to the enormous amount of preparation! I have one question, how does the positive pressure chamber work? I thought it was a vacuum chamber to get the air bubbles out of the epoxy. Thanks Alan B.
Thank you very much Alan😉
The positive pressure chamber works in the opposite way to the vacuum chamber, that is to say that it compresses the bubbles until they visually disappear.
The pressure must be adjusted depending on the resin used and the type of wood.
@@bawbreizhartwood ok, thanks very much for the explanation, I really was ( am ) curious about how it works, sometimes you see guys with a blowtorch on shallow pours! Keep up the excellent work, I always look forward to seeing your newest creation!
I missed it I guess but what do you use for your epoxy. What kind or what brand. Thank you
I use epoxy resin of different viscosity depending on the project I am carrying out, but I use different brands
@@bawbreizhartwooddo you find one brand Superior over others question mark fairly new to this resin stuff but it's there's so much out there it's mind-boggling.
Is blue the only color you have available? Would have looked better with, I dunno, a dark maroon, orange, yellow or even black. Too much blue for me.
when using two species of wood with opposite contrast this does not leave much choice of glue color if you want it to be clearly visible, especially when there is a small quantity of resin 😉
One heart ❤ for your art but the hand 😅 no good on top 😅
😉
