For the hair, i kind of wish that the merfolks have more vibrant hair colors. I mean half fish and all, but when Ariel turns into a human, her hair would turn into a natural duller red.
The main actors were actually asked in an interview if they would consider coming back for a sequel, potentially one based on the second movie and they said yes. Halle apparently loves that movie. You are the first teacher I have watched that isn’t even confused as why Triton has daughters of different ethnicities. I’m sick of other reactors saying, “he’s a player”
Another good point here is that Ariel did not say "DADDY I LOVE HIM", which for me is so lame in the original. She, in the movie, is more of the lover of the people rather than just Eric.
Watched it last night and I loved it!! I cried, I laughed, and Halle Bailey was the perfect Ariel! Her singing voice, her mannerisms, the way she spoke was just Ariel! Best live action Disney movie so far! Excellent movie
Definitely the best Disney live-action so far, in my opinion. I'm so glad that you liked "For The First Time" after seeing it in context. It is my favorite song in the movie. It was wonderful to see you reacting to this, thank you.
"For The First Time" is also one of my most favorite songs in the film! It sits right next to "Part of Your World Reprise 2" and "Vanessa's Trick" as being the songs I replayed the most since watching the film a month ago. I just wish Disney would hurry up and finally release the music video for the rest of the songs already 😢.
I am SOO glad you like For The First Time now!! The song is really great when it’s with context and I had a feeling you would change your mind once you saw it in the movie ☺️☺️
As someone whose favorite Disney movie is original mermaid, I went in with higher excitement then other live action remakes. And I loved it-for different reasons than the original. I saw it twice within a span of roughly 36 hours, and I kid you not, the first time I saw Kaiju Ursula-as someone who loves the original final battle-and I saw remake for the first time on IMAX-I LEGITIMATELY GOT TEARS OF JOY IN MY EYES.
I still love the added depth they gave Eric. It gave him something in common with Ariel. I get the feeling that there will be a lot fewer shipwrecks. One problem I had at the beginning of the movie was WHAT were those sailors THINKING? If Triton is calling his daughters, and you kill one, HOW is that going to be a good thing?
ariel's mother was also killed in the original but they didn't reveal that until the third animated movie, which was a prequel and showed how her mother was killed.
fight me, but this remake is better than the original. halle was perfectly casted, she has so much emotions in her eyes and face, just like a cartoon, her voice is incredible and she has a lightness/innocence about her that is very chldish in a good way.
I completely agree but I’m always scared to say it 🫣 this remake surpasses the original by far in my opinion. It wasn’t bad, just not my favorite. This remake though?? CHEFS KISS
When they started releasing live action versions of the princess movies I started to hope one day The Little Mermaid would get one. The first time I saw the teaser for this I cried. And when I saw this movie for the first time in theatres I was so filled with joy and happiness. The music at the start and just how beautiful everything was under water. I almost started to bawl thinking finally the day had come. I was seeing the little mermaid in theatres as a live action movie. I'm so happy this movie now has a live action. It the best live action so far hands down!
Oh the tears this movie brings every time. They did a beautiful job making this their own. Just remembered an new Ariel cartoon show for the babies is in the making so it's cool to see her being reintroduced to a new generation (for those who cared about the hair it'll be firetruck red🎉)
Same I always cry when Ariel and Eric are separated and then they reunite in the end. Same with Triton and all the merfolk showing up to send their farewells to Ariel.
If you listen to his song lyrics “silhouetted by the rising dawn,” he litterally couldn’t see her when he was coming conscious. He only heard her voice, which Sebastian alludes to being a use of her siren power to save him. WHICH IS WHY her melody was an undertone in his song. BUT DESPITE THE MAGIC HE FALLS IN LOVE WITH HER WITHOUT HER VOICE!
Yes! And the reason all the sisters look different, is when each sister is given an ocean, they absorb their qualities and features according to that special area! That's why each is unique and different! And Ariel hasn't been assigned an ocean yet, that's why she's a little plain...😊
My favourite movie of 2023.Loved everything about it. Saw it 5 times and loved it with each viewing. Halle Bailey was brilliant in this film,Jonah was very good too as Eric and him and Halle had amazing chemistry. The biggest surprise was Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. She was so good as the cunning squid. I laughed and cried.
loved your reaction! i’ve cried every time i watched this film. this is easily Disney’s best live action adaptation and it’s obvious who’s intentionally trolling when it comes to negative reviews. there are very few flaws with this film and i was blown away. i sincerely hope we get a sequel.
The behind the scenes of how they did Under The Sea is incredible, you should check it out. The director has strong musical background so his directing gives musical theatre vibes and they rehearsed like it was a stage show. Kiss the girl was the first stuff Jonah and Halle filmed together and the chemistry was already amazing.
Marshall brought in the Alvin Ailey American Dance Company to choreograph and perform the "Under the Sea" segment on a green screen. They were absolutely phenomenal!!
So, I haven't loved any Disney remake since the 2015 Cinderella. FINALLY this comes out. Only took them a few years to get another one right lol. Like Cinderella, beautiful characters, acting, depth of emotion, meaning, etc. A lot of nice visuals. CGI isn't always on point, but I'm used to that with Disney lol. Favorite couple next to Kit and Ella.
Ahh, yes. A person of culture. I see you. Lily James and Halle Bailey are easily the best live action Disney princesses. Cinderella and The Little Mermaid are the models Disney needs to follow if they’re going to continue these.
I'm so happy to see you finally reviewed this movie! I'm so happy you loved it as much as we all did! Such a great movie. I've watched it several times since buying it. Such a feel-good movie.
Audrey is so relatable and entertaining that I've legit watched this multiple times. Her confusion at 15:40 while trying to figure out if that's Jodi Benson at the market gets me everytime 🤣
Also Scuttle in this movie is a Gannet. It's a type of diving bird. Look up information on the bird, it was a really awesome decision for them to use this type of bird instead of a seagull. They really took their time on this movie and you can tell 10/10.
Yes this is one of the best adaptation of disney. Comparing from the original where ariel focuses ONLY in the prince's true loves kiss but in this adaptation you can see how she socialize with the people and fed her curiosities in the land. Her world doesn't only revolve in the prince and how in this adaptations Ariel is the one killed Ursula just telling us that this fight is between Ariel and her Aunt. That this new Ariel can fight and not a damsel in distress and I like how Eric of course helped Ariel between the danger and his love in the ocean is top tier and Eric is adopted?!. I just like the adaptation that's all. BRING OUT WOMEN!!!
@@SongsFromASuitcase legend XD but also on a more serious note it makes a lot of sense as a singer/coach making sure you keep that lung capacity/stamina up. I know my mom would tell me how she’d have to like do laps for her choir class when she was in college which I thought was hilarious but also always weirdly stuck with me
My only "requirements" for the remake is the actress has to be able to sing and have red hair both were accomplished. The animated version is one of my favorite movies growing up in part to also being a daddy's girl/favorite and in my case only daughter. My little nitpicks would be the switch from calling Triton "Father" versus "Daddy" it felt more distant but is probably more time period appropriate and couldn't they have included her transition back to human with a pretty dress if they were nixing the wedding? Also a rainbow at the end would have been nice too. Leaving it open ended is smart for future sequels. Something I appreciate more in this version as a parent myself is the willingness to die for your child if it means they're safe and can live. Don't get me wrong I'd rather fight like hell for both of us but if it was them or me I'd choose them hands down every time. Her killing Ursula didn't make a lot of sense but we're talking about a magical mermaid movie so it really doesn't have to make sense. Also for a potential sequel/sequels maybe Ursula has a secret child/children who want revenge vs. her sister since in this universe Triton and Ursula are siblings. That or they need a prequel to before Ursula is banished if they want to bring out Morgana/other unknown siblings. I know this post is now humongous but I also appreciated the addition of the little girl mermaid at the end who was missing an arm since it added both a sense of realism and further diversity.
Aside from Halle and her incredible vocals, the sisters were my favourite part of the film. I wish they would have given them more screen time and possibly their own musical number like a "Seven Sister Symphony" or "Symphony Of The Seven Seas"..or something like that hahaha. Also love that they fleshed Eric and his character development out a lot more. The comparisons between his and Ariels treasure room/grottos was a great touch.
I agree. I wouldn’t of been mad had it been 20-30 mins longer just to add a few more things. I think they didn’t want to stray even further but like cmon. You redesigned all the sisters to not even have them do a song together?!
Knew you would like for the first time in context. My favorite part of the movie. I watched this movie three times just for that part alone lol! So glad they added that!
Definitely my favorite live action remake! Loved Halle and everybody's performances, this movie was so beautifully and uniquely reimagined. I lost count how many times i've watched it! It has its few flaws here and there, but still a great movie ❤
I love this movie so much and no matter how many times that I see it I love it just as much. Hallie is amazing as Ariel and she adds her own touches to the part as well which is amazing in it's own right. Scuttle in this movie isn't a seagul she's a pelican I think also it's a she not a he. Akwafina does the voice and I love her as an actress because she is so funny and talented as well. A good movie to watch that shows all of that in her is the second Jumanji movie from the newer versions they did I mean. Glad you loved the movie just as much as I did and yes Malissa is amazing as Ursulla but I am not really surprised because she is such a good actress though she said that the singing part scared her a bit when she first got cast but they helped her through that as you can tell here. I also love that Ariel is the one that saved the day instead of Eric and that Eric and Ariel both have the love of collecting things in common. This movie had a darker more adult tone to it but I like that fact about it though the original movie had it's more scary and dark sides to it as well.
2:45 in the movie they’ve changed Scuttle from a male seagull to a female northern gannet, because gannets unlike seagulls can deep down underwater, and yes they both cannot breathe underwater 😅, but this choose was made so that Ariel would have NEVER been to the surface and it would have been up to Scuttle to dive underwater to meet her. By doing this change they wanted to make the scene where Ariel goes to the surface more epic
2:42 I know most of y’all know this, although in the remake Scuttle is not a seagull- Scuttles a gannet. A gannet is a type of bird that can fly and go underwater, although for only 30 seconds.
I loooove this movie so much. i've always adored the 1989 TLM but I think I like this 2023 even better mainly because of Halle and Jonah. I will watch it again ans again and again! Their promo interviews are also soooo watchable
Love your reactions! I really hope there's a sequel. They obviously let the ending open to one and I really want something original, not a remake of The Little Mermaid 2! Fingers crossed!
scuttle is a gannet because gannets are diving birds and they hold their breath, but they can still communicate with each other underwater via clicks and noises so I guess thats whats happening in the start of the movie?
Its funny 10 minutes ago i was on the street singing The Little Mermaid 3 songs, then i come back and found this reaction waiting! I was already on The Little Mermaid mood for this 😁
I procrastinated sooooo long on watching the live action version, partly because I love Halle Bailey in Grownish and haven't seen her in anything else, so I strongly associate her with her character, Sky. And also because I wore out VHS tapes of The Little Mermaid as a kid (I was five when it came out) so I wasn't convinced a remake could come close to my enjoyment of the original. And then I watched it today................. Excuse me?? WHAT ORIGINAL???? The original animated movie literally DOES NOT EXIST in my eyes anymore after seeing this ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE of PERFECTION!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 Like, this had sooooooooooo many things in it that I didn't even know I needed until I got them!!!! 🤣🤣😂😂🤷🤷 Everything from "Look at her stupid little feet!"...to SCUTTLE RAPPING...to Ariel being the one to vanquish Ursula...to meeting Eric's mom who loves him so much she's standing in her gown in the water with him...to the idea of it being an island rather than a coastal kingdom (which makes waaaay more sense!!!!)...to all of the interactions in the village...to the little bubbles every time Triton is using his trident (cuz it's a heat weapon and duh, heat boils water!!)...to the fact they FINALLY acknowledged Ursula as being Triton's SISTER which was supposed to be in the OG script and never made it in (which has led to soooo many idiots questioning the family tree, even though the animated TV show acknowledged Triton as Poseidon's son and Once Upon a Time acknowledged Ursula as Poseidon's daughter and yet somehow that STILL wasn't enough for people) but yeah, now anyone who tries to tell me than Mal and Uma aren't related or that Hercules and Ariel aren't (etc. etc.) can literally FIGHT ME 😂😂😂😂🤷...to the fact that we got some new gorgeous songs...to the fact they gave Eric a collection room of his own so they had something to bond over...to that time they SAVED A DOG TOGETHER 😭😭😭...to the fact Grimsby didn't look like a frail af walking corpse...to the absence of the fish murdering song...to the fact her sisters were actually NICE...to the way they somehow made Triton hot 🥵...to the fact Scuttle wasn't a seagull (cuz I can't stand seagulls)...to the sexy hat Ariel had Eric wearing...to the change from those creepy mer-slugs (or whatever those were in Ursula's garden in the OG film) into the grabby things instead that looked plant-like (which was waaay less cringe)...shall I go on? Because I could. I really could. For DAYS! Like I haven't even gotten into how beautiful it all looked, or the amazing vocals, or the fact that LMM was involved, or Sookie from Gilmore Girls managing to pull off Ursula (in a way I could not have ever fathomed possible), to how I somehow did not picture Halle as Sky the ENTIRE time, she was just Ariel for me, which in and of itself was magic (and did I mention how hot 🤤she is?????), and the Vanessa actress did the whole evil-hot thing really well too and that screech with the crazy eyes was just *chef's kiss*...and Eric being adopted and saying he feels like the sea is in his blood which has me so curious and just salivating to know how he came to be there and who his bio parents are and like I said I could go on for DAYS, so I should probably just say thank you sooooo much for this reaction 🙏😭❤😍❤️😭🙏 and say byeeeeeee otherwise I will never actually go to bed, so yeah oops 😅🙈 my bad!!!! This was reeeeaaaaalllllyyyyy long 😅😅😅🙈🙈🙈
This to me is one of the best if not the best live action remake Disney film!!! I loved how close it was to the original and yet it was its own movie!!! I definitely loved how they made Ariel and Eric so in sync and that they kept the concept of Ursula and Triton being siblings. My only main or minor critique was that they should’ve had the ensemble in Under the Sea had done “Ahhs” in the climax of the song and if they gave us more details of Ursula and Triton’s history like in the current licensing version of the stage musical. 🧜🏾♀️🤴🏻🦀🐠🐦🐶🔱 🐚🌊⛵️🩵💜💛🖤
You can hear a little bit of Hamilton in the whole movie I knew this would happen with Lin Manuel Miranda i loved the movie so much especially with Jonah beeing Prince Eric
Ok but Eric saw Ariel’s shadow (yes it was a dark shadow due to the sun lol), but it’s plausible that given his delirious state, he wouldn’t connect her face to the shadow when he first sees her and she can’t speak…
They specifically chose a bird that can go underwater which I think was kinda creative, like if they really were gonna choose to change the bird species I guess I'd for a diving bird too
Scuttle here is a Gannet. They can hold their breath for around 45 seconds after diving. So in reality, the conversation underwater would have to be speedy. Also she doesn’t have the glittery dress at the end because the previous dress became symbolic, especially when she looked back at it when it got torn from her.
That’s not a seagull in the movie, it’s this specific bird that can briefly swim underwater and fly in the air! Though the talking underwater is questionable😅

You are the first teacher I have watched that isn’t even confused as why Triton has daughters of different ethnicities. I’m sick of other reactors saying, “he’s a player”
It was better than other live-action remakes no one can deny that !
My favorite too.
Watching this on theaters was such an experience. I loved this remake.
The tears Ariel had referencing back to the quote at the beginning?? Chef’s kiss!!!
ariel's mother was also killed in the original but they didn't reveal that until the third animated movie, which was a prequel and showed how her mother was killed.
fight me, but this remake is better than the original. halle was perfectly casted, she has so much emotions in her eyes and face, just like a cartoon, her voice is incredible and she has a lightness/innocence about her that is very chldish in a good way.
She brought the Disney Princess energy better than ANYONE who has ever Disney Princessed. She could not have been more perfect for this role.
@@starkman78 exactly!!
I completely agree but I’m always scared to say it 🫣 this remake surpasses the original by far in my opinion. It wasn’t bad, just not my favorite. This remake though?? CHEFS KISS
I completely agree with you that the remake is better than the original.. Disney did this one, right!! My bf and I loved Sebastián. He was hilarious 😂
Ariel helping Max to the lifeboat was EVERYTHING!!! Such a quick and subtle addition to the movie that adds soooo much character development! 🥲
Literally the BEST live action remake Disney has ever done! Sooooo good
This is definitely the best Disney live action remake with the best Disney Princess casting! Halle is PERFECTION ❤
I’m obsessed with Halle and this movie…it’s crazy. Saw it twice in theaters. Probably gonna watch it several times this weekend.
Thats how you make a point😊
SAME!!! Saw it 5x and it’s my favorite movie of the year…maybe even ever?🤔
it's wild how good this movie is, i actually am so amazed with the heart and performances in the film.
Yes! The second reprise is HEARTBREAKING!!!
loved your reaction! i’ve cried every time i watched this film. this is easily Disney’s best live action adaptation and it’s obvious who’s intentionally trolling when it comes to negative reviews. there are very few flaws with this film and i was blown away. i sincerely hope we get a sequel.
my favorite thing about this movie (besides halle’s voice), is ariel and eric’s connection!!! their love did not feel forced like in the animation
I cried so hard when she helped max. The best
This was probably my favorite Disney remake so far. I just love the cast, the songs, and the tropical setting!
Love Cinderella too
I love brandy Cinderella
Ahh, yes. A person of culture. I see you. Lily James and Halle Bailey are easily the best live action Disney princesses. Cinderella and The Little Mermaid are the models Disney needs to follow if they’re going to continue these.
For the first time is my fave song from this movie♡♡ and that scene is EVERYTHING♥︎!!
Love this movie. For the first time is my favorite song in the movie.
It was very clever of them to sneak the word Amnesia in the spell.
I think it’s the best live action so far
Literally the part where she helps Max I burst into tears in the theater. 😂😭🖤
I love that Audrey is just…getting her steps in. We stan a fit reaction.
Yes!!! I love food, so I gotta get my steps in 😂
@@SongsFromASuitcase legend XD but also on a more serious note it makes a lot of sense as a singer/coach making sure you keep that lung capacity/stamina up.
I’m crying rewatching it with you 14:17
Aside from Halle and her incredible vocals, the sisters were my favourite part of the film.
In proportion to film time, their roles were bigger in this film than in the OG. It wasn’t enormous, but it was more than before.
I cried a couple of times. Love this novie so much
Knew you would like for the first time in context.
Also, I just applaud you for watching this while walking on the treadmill. We should be taking notes.
Gotta get my steps in!
I'm crying with you for the 6th time. This is a beautiful movie.
I'm so glad you were able to love For the First Time, it's my favorite new song and I think it's such a necessary addition
Girl did you just work out for 2hrs while watching this? 😭😭😭
Audrey: watches a movie analizing the vocals and music, while also doing cardio AND filming ytb content. Multitasking queen
Gotta get my steps in!
I knew you would LOOOOVE “For the first time” once you watched it.
15:41 yes that is jodie benson
I just came back from cinema watching this movie in 3D. It was absolutely amazing and I loved it so muchh. ❤❤
Halle Bailey was perfection in the movie!!!! Forget the haters!
They chose that bird bc it actually breathes underwater but not seagulls
Love your reactions! I really hope there's a sequel. They obviously let the ending open to one and I really want something original, not a remake of The Little Mermaid 2! Fingers crossed!
scuttle is a gannet because gannets are diving birds and they hold their breath, but they can still communicate with each other underwater via clicks and noises so I guess thats whats happening in the start of the movie?
I love this live action of Little Mermaid great movie. It was funny, emotional, fun.
best live action
even better than beauty and the beast and that’s my fab disney movie
fav*
I love the little mermaid live action
In the market scene, that is Jodi Benson (one of the traveling merchants)
I wish you saw it IMAX theatres.
Yes it feels disrespectful to watch it at home on the treadmill for the first time
One thing I love about the live action is that they followed the animation more than the others . The opening scene to the songs- I lovedddddd
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Like, this had sooooooooooo many things in it that I didn't even know I needed until I got them!!!! 🤣🤣😂😂🤷🤷
Everything from "Look at her stupid little feet!"...to SCUTTLE RAPPING...to Ariel being the one to vanquish Ursula...to meeting Eric's mom who loves him so much she's standing in her gown in the water with him...to the idea of it being an island rather than a coastal kingdom (which makes waaaay more sense!!!!)...to all of the interactions in the village...to the little bubbles every time Triton is using his trident (cuz it's a heat weapon and duh, heat boils water!!)...to the fact they FINALLY acknowledged Ursula as being Triton's SISTER which was supposed to be in the OG script and never made it in (which has led to soooo many idiots questioning the family tree, even though the animated TV show acknowledged Triton as Poseidon's son and Once Upon a Time acknowledged Ursula as Poseidon's daughter and yet somehow that STILL wasn't enough for people) but yeah, now anyone who tries to tell me than Mal and Uma aren't related or that Hercules and Ariel aren't (etc. etc.) can literally FIGHT ME 😂😂😂😂🤷...to the fact that we got some new gorgeous songs...to the fact they gave Eric a collection room of his own so they had something to bond over...to that time they SAVED A DOG TOGETHER 😭😭😭...to the fact Grimsby didn't look like a frail af walking corpse...to the absence of the fish murdering song...to the fact her sisters were actually NICE...to the way they somehow made Triton hot 🥵...to the fact Scuttle wasn't a seagull (cuz I can't stand seagulls)...to the sexy hat Ariel had Eric wearing...to the change from those creepy mer-slugs (or whatever those were in Ursula's garden in the OG film) into the grabby things instead that looked plant-like (which was waaay less cringe)...shall I go on? This was reeeeaaaaalllllyyyyy long 😅😅😅🙈🙈🙈
When she saves Max, I’m just like yes! She’s the best! I actually love that part so much for some reason!
14:14 “I love that song, I ducking love that song”
Are you walking on a treadmill? If so I gotta love the multitasking
Immmmm so happy you got to see it!!!! Yay!!! It’s truly soooo captivating and what they did with Ariel and Eric’s love story is so sweet!!
I’m so glad you changed your mind about For the First Time, it’s my fav🤣
Yea, definitely the best live action remake; 94% on Rotten Tomatoes; highest verified audience score for a live-action
I cried too. This movie was amazing.😢❤
The reaction we all wanted?! YES!!
“Thank you for hearing me”
“You shouldn’t have had to give up your voice to be heard”
Literally my favorite lines, they’re so real
This to me is one of the best if not the best live action remake Disney film!!! I loved how close it was to the original and yet it was its own movie!!! I definitely loved how they made Ariel and Eric so in sync and that they kept the concept of Ursula and Triton being siblings. My only main or minor critique was that they should’ve had the ensemble in Under the Sea had done “Ahhs” in the climax of the song and if they gave us more details of Ursula and Triton’s history like in the current licensing version of the stage musical.
🧜🏾♀️🤴🏻🦀🐠🐦🐶🔱
🐚🌊⛵️🩵💜💛🖤
You can hear a little bit of Hamilton in the whole movie I knew this would happen with Lin Manuel Miranda i loved the movie so much especially with Jonah beeing Prince Eric
This is the best live action by far!!! And your reaction was amazing ❤
Is it just me or is Ariel's hair more red than it was in the cinema ?😄
It's making me so happy that you love For the First Time now! I knew watching it would shift your opinion 😊 It's my favourite part of the film ❤
Ok but Eric saw Ariel’s shadow (yes it was a dark shadow due to the sun lol), but it’s plausible that given his delirious state, he wouldn’t connect her face to the shadow when he first sees her and she can’t speak…
I love “For the First Time” I guess that’s it’s name. It’s actually one of my favorite parts of the movie.
Glad you enjoyed it. Like me you did not mind she saved the day. I had someone tell me she refused to see it because she heard Ariel saved the day. 🙄
It’s a Gannet.
It’s a gannet they are diving birds technically, you can talk underwater, but you lose your breath very fast
You know that everything that happens here isn’t supposed to be to scale with everything in real life.
