What a fun movie! I remember being an Ant-Man fan back in the day. Hank and his wife Janet, the Wasp, were original members of the Avengers in the comics. I honestly didn't know if it would succeed as a film, but it was a hit! Paul Rudd was perfect in this role, and Michael Peña as Luis was so much fun.
The big surprise to me was the fact that Paxton turns out to be a good guy and embrace the ex-con ex-husband of his new wife into his family. They could have so easily just made him a jerk and played it for laughs.

The Ant-Man trilogy might lowkey be my favorite. Paul Rudd is just so damn charismatic, and the movies are all full of rare things like the positive family dynamics you see from a divorced couple that you almost never see in any media. The Ant-Man movies are just so full of charm, heart, and comedy that they never fail to put a smile on my face. Loved seeing your reaction and have really been enjoying your other reactions as well once I discovered you scrolling around on youtube. Keep up the good work! ❤❤❤

I agree about the Ant Man films. I also love the Guardians series. The humor, the focus on people not blood relation being family, and the third film (no spoilers) has a character arc by a male lead that shows some serious personal growth.

Such a fun movie and reaction! There's another movie from 1966 "Fantastic Voyage", where scientists shrink a crew , in a submarine and they travel through the human body . Good effects for its time.

Love your comments so far, always fun to revisit the MCU movies with fresh perspectives such as yours :) Just a side note here, but the debut of Ant-Man makes me think of a classic movie from 1987 called Innerspace, with Dennis Quaid and Martin Short. It's a sci-fi comedy that IMO what Ant-Man draws inspiration from.

18:56 "Why not her? Why won't you let her do it?"
Well, first, let me point out that using the suit entails risk for whoever wears it. Hank prevents Hope from wearing the suit because his instincts as a father compel him to _protect_ her. But second, as they reveal later in the movie, there _is_ some backstory, there.

Phase 1-3 was SOOOOO good, minus maybe one or two movies, but it was such a great series of movies. Lots of projects that sounded ludicrous and shouldn't have worked and turned out to be some fans' favorite movies of the series, like Guardians of the Galaxy. A lot of people were thinking about if this movie was going to be bad or not before it came out thinking "Ant-man? Paul Rudd as a superhero...? Ehh, I don't know about that", it was another hit.

As the old saying goes the best gifts come in small packages! This is the best reaction to Ant Man currently on YT, as most of the mega reactors have ignored it, so thanks for this Cristy! Loved the way you lit up when your fave the Falcon showed up midway through the film (lots more of him to come in the MCU, too!). If you liked this one you won't believe the action coming up in the sequel when Hope joins the team as The Wasp. Buckle up because now that Phase 1 is complete you are in for one heck of a ride! They did a skit where it was a super hero party like super man, hulk, flash ect like big name super hero's were at this party with their girls, the guy in the car showed up as ant man and everyone at the party made fun of him, it's a funny little Easter egg they put in the movie.

Great reaction to my FAVORITE MCU movie! Mainly, because it echoed what comics were when I was a kid (I'm 55 so I'll let you do that math) where the stories were local and personal, so more relatable in many ways, to the reader. Scott could be the guy who lived down the street, and that was partly because he was a relatively normal guy who was just trying to do all he could to take care of the ones who mattered the most in his life (his daughter Cassie) and his story is basically a human interest one instead of a multi-galaxy spanning war against impossible odds. But this is the MCU, and Thanos is out there, so we'll get back to that in the next movies. 😛
Aw, give Dale a break. This situation reminds me of a situation a friend of mine was in when he worked for a company in California. He had to fire the hardest working guy on his crew because the dude had done a year for basically a Class E felony (the lowest level of felony) when he was 19, and he was almost 40 at the time when he worked on my friend's crew. But once corporate found out, he was gone immediately. It's hard to get a life back once someone has done felony time.
Luis is awesome, especially the erratic way he tells his stories. Which I personally understand since I've been accused of letting my random thoughts run away with a story I'm telling. I like the other two of the "three wombats" as well. Kurt is great with his fears of Gypsies/Baba Yaga and Dave cracks me up all the time.
Still love that the car Scott lands on in his first test run with the suit belongs to a man played by the actor Garrett Morris, who played Ant-Man in a Saturday Night Live sketch around 1980 (where the other superheroes mocked Ant-Man for having lame super powers).
I loved that there was some real confusion, for many people, as to why Hank wouldn't let Hope wear the suit, but after hearing the story of Janet (which explained the opening scene violence too) it made sense. It was also a very human reaction too, which was one thing the best era (1940s-1980s) of Marvel Comics was known for: they wrote a lot of stories about humans in ways that humans would understand. Wanda's fears, Steve's drive to overcome his limitations, Natasha's desire to try to make up for all the bad she did, Tony's discovery of life's meaning and then his battles with PTSD (and alcoholism in the comics), Scott's desire to be a good father for his little girl, all those kinds of stories that were real life that the readers could see in their own lives. That's what helped make comics relatable, even if the stories were about amazingly powerful people doing impossible things. The real life reflections made them seem real. That's why I burned a lot of my chore/lawn mowing money on comic books when I was young.
And remember, One-Punch Luis is the only guy who ever knocked Peachy out (at the prison 'going away' ceremony). 😀He's almost a superhero too. 😀
Possibly my favorite thing about this movie as that Paxton (the cop fiance) is a good guy. He's trying to do his job and trying to take care of his fiancee and his soon-to-be stepdaughter and he's still completely willing to try to give Scott a chance. And, at the end, they're kind of in a buddy-buddy relationship. That was the coolest thing for me because it's a trope to have either the bio father or the stepfather be this horrible person, but instead they were just real people who were looking at the big picture of what was best for Cassie. And the mom/Scott's ex was too. That's how it should be.
If you like the planning and pulling off of a heist movie, my favorite unknown heist of all time is Disorganized Crime. You really should watch it!

This is, along with Guardians, one of the hardest to imagine working as a movie and both were amazing. It's got great humor (Luis is one of the greatest in the entire saga), incredible action, and keeps the stakes appropriately small (pun intended). I love that the final fight is almost entirely in a kid's bedroom.
The sequel is very strong too!

Great reaction! I've been meaning to say, I appreciate the editing and how the length of your reactions have gotten longer each time. It really allows you to fit in a lot from the movie. Some cool tid bits, the original director was post to be Edgar Wright but unfortunately he and Marvel Studios had some "creative differences" during pre-production and decided to go separate ways. The slightly sad thing was Edgar Wright had actually tried to get Ant-Man made for years (even before Marvel Studios was originally around) because he was a huge fan of the character. He originally made some test footage that was "leaked" to internet to gauge how much fans wanted to see a movie. He had the original idea for a Heist film, but I think he wanted to make it all a single film, nothing really connected with the MCU. By the time the interest came around, the MCU was pretty popular and had to also fit in extra narratives for the MCU. And I think I already mentioned it, but in the original comics, Hank Pym actually created Ultron.

Another fun reaction, Cristy! It’s great seeing you progress thru the MCU. There’s still so much fun stuff ahead.
One thing about the end-credit scene with Cap and the Falcon. (I don’t think this would be considered a spoiler at all.) I’ve seen other reviewers be a bit confused at the scene as they assume it is happening *now*. What that scene was was a glimpse at a future scene in a later Marvel movie. You’ll eventually see scenes that lead up to that scene, and then when this scene plays again in the movie, the dialogue and situation will be a lot more clear. :-)
Keep up the awesome reaction videos! ❤

In the comic books Hank Pym was the one who created Ultron. A lot of the characters in the MCU all the secondary versions. Like the MCU guardians of the Galaxy are the second version and Scott Lang Ant-Man is the second version. The MCU went with the second version because Hank Pym is more of a scientist he doesn't care about being a superhero the only reason he was because of his wife Janet van dyne was a shield agent then convinced him to join. Also in the movie he says if you don't have a specialized helmet like heals the PYM particles would effect your brain chemistry. Like it already did which caused him to attack Janet which also happens in the comic books and and still have outbursts of rage.

12:18-12:25 It is _possible_ that they had applied different formulas to each of the subjects, and would keep track of which formula changed the result [simplified example, 35-A had iron and Vitamin B boosters, 35-B had Iron and Magnesium boosters, 35-C then had Magnesium and Vitamin D boosters, then if one of these had a different result (better or worse) they would further explore that path as a basis for another series of tests. And I'm using simple vitamins and minerals as an example for the sake of explaining the concept] I have no idea if this is how his project is progressing, but it would be an example of how without changing the equipment between test subjects, could still have different results.
13:25 You caught that quickly. That's one of the rules they play very loosely with. It gets explained later what the Pym Particles do, but the explanation doesn't explain things like "why he broke the tile as though he was still heavy, but the flow of running bathwater could catapult him over the top of the bathtub" I guarantee there wasn't even 32 pounds of water (about 4 gallons) when it hit a tiny object weighing over 100 pounds.
Example Shown at 13:37 If falling from the top of a bathtub causes him to break a ceramic tile, what should the same falling from the ceiling onto a vinyl record do to the record and record player (turntable)? 13:50 what kind of generic household vacuum cleaner can pick him and launch him a dozen feet through a window?
The suit is called The Yellowjacket. It can be very important in arcing stories like the MCU that you keep names straight. Janet (Hank's wife, Hope's mother) was The Wasp
. I'm a little disappointed you didn't make mention of the inconsistency of the size/mass issue. It really detracted from the movie for me, and I thought when you made the observation of him breaking the ceramic tile, you'd catch onto the inconsistency and at least acknowledge it. Over all, it's a fun movie, and I can't really expect *perfect* logic in such a genre, but I do appreciate when they establish a rule to live by. When they break it, they need a better reason than "advances the plot" or "it'll be funny" to me.

Great stuff. Regarding the 'he broke the tile'... lots of non comic book readers seems to get confused by this, even though it's explained earlier on: the shrunken person in the suit maintains the exact same mass. So, even though Scott is small here, the tile breaks exactly if it would if he had, for example, stomped on it with his heel at normal size...

Random: Scott said "I burgled them", I thought that was british english and americans only said "burlarized". Is there a difference Im missing? Is it, "I got burlarized", but "I burgled them"?, because in the UK, you can BE burgled.

This one was originally supposed to be in phase one. Edgar Wright is a huge fan and he had been trying to make an Antman movie for years. Unfortunately he wanted to make a stand alone movie not an MCU movie. So he dropped out. I would have liked to see his take but this is pretty good nonetheless.
