The aggressive pricing strategy is smart to me. We have to repair our reputation as a selling club and that starts with using the media to out out excessive prices, it sets the expectation that you cannot approach us with 5-10 million offers for young home grown players.
I believe we'll lower our price during negotiations but we need them to take us seriously.
Very true,we used to terminate players contracts and selling at a loss and teams got used to taking our players for cheap, now they pay the price tag or we keep them as squad players.
If you asked most people before the Euros started they would have said that England's problem area was their defence and they had the best attack in the Euros. It's impressive the way Southgate has managed to reverse that.
Expecting Partey to stay injury free us a triumph of hope over experience. Why is he going to be better this season than any of the last few seasons when he's getting older and close to the end of his career ?
I'm not suggesting we give him away but if we get a reasonable offer get his wages off the books as we'll no doubt be paying for him to sit on the treatment table for half the season.

Partey has been good for us whenever he was fit and brought a lot of fluidity and flair to our play, I am happy for him to leave while he is still appreciated and while the club can still recoup a fair amount of value out him. I do hope we get a technically gifted replacement for him as he will be sorely missed if at all the team experiences a drop in game flow.
Can’t believe there has been no criticism of Gallagher and his want to play so far forward instead of helping out in the midfield.

Hi Charles, love your stuff and I listen every day. With regards to Saka playing for England.. here’s a thought.. opposition teams are aware and scared of him, that’s why they put two men on him when attacking around their box. You quite rightly pointed out that he doesn’t get much help from Walker on the overlap or Kane at all because his movement is not good enough. But what about moving Foden into the right 8 Odegaard role? Their interplay and passing combinations would surely bamboozle and scare the life out of the opposition defences and create so much more from an attacking perspective on the right. (Basically how Arsenal play). Use Bellingham as the left 8 Dekkers at 6 and try Gordon on the left and maybe Gomez at left back unless Shaw is fit enough. That would give balance and plenty of attacking threat. What are your thoughts…

With regards to Emile Smith Rowe this will be the first pre season he's had injury free for quite some time. I think we and Emile deserves a chance to show us what he's capable of. There's so much more to come from him, I would hate to see him finally reach the consistency and standards we all know he's capable of with another team.
I agree with you on my fellow countryman TP5..I think arsenal should not let him leave but I would like arsenal to still sign a CDM because we need squad depth to compete in the league and all the cup competitions

I missed yesterday's stream and with regards to Eddie 50 million for him is unbelievable. But let's have it right if we asked any premier league club for Eddie that's the kind of fee we would be asked to pay. For example 100 million for Ivan toney equates to 50 for Eddie.
Any talks about getting Quintin Timber, Jurrien’s twin brother? He had a great year last year, he’s affordable, and plays a position that we need depth.

Re: Partey, you’re speaking in ‘theory’ getting a decent 12 months out of him. Ie if he has a good pre-season, etc.
But he’s far too injury prone, in practice, to assume you would get a decent 12months outta him.
He usually plays 25-30 PL games per season. The 22/23 season he played 33 PL games.
All we need form him is 20-25 games to help us bed in his replacement. Even last season he played 14 times in the PL.
£20m+ or he stays for me.

I'd definitely sell Partey if we get a decent offer. I'd take 25M as I'm sure we could get Onana for 50M on much less wages. He is going to need replacing after this year either if we keep him so let's get some money and a player who is actually available to play. Having Rice, Onana, and Jorginho who can play the 6 then we can get another 8 like Eze who can also play off the wing should we need Rice in the 8 would give us good options IMO.

Charles, Romano reported that Arsenal are watching Calafiori of Bologna, who is currently the break out star of the Euro. Personally i don't think he will come to Arsenal though. Bit similar feeling to Locatelli transfer saga. Italy players rarely makes the move to PL(Tonaly and Jorginho are rare exceptions)
As much as I love our national team, it's club over country all day long so I can't wait for these bloody Euros to end and for our new season to start!!!

Regarding needing two midfielders if oartey goes that was the case when we got rice in it should have been rice and another we chose one because the club believed Partey would be fit (never is never has been never will be) so get rid and sign two this window instead of counting pennies.
Arsenal players are quality players they are many Arsenal players out there that did well / and some that are doing very well ..The academy is world class ... partey is worth 50 mil How many players can do what thoms can do? If we dont get the money he would be worth the keep As for Eddie ( how many arsenal players have hat tricks?) Q Charles why arent Arsenal looking to sign Openda he wouldn't cost us as much as Leipzig were asking for Sesko even if they do ask for around that figure I think stylistically he's perfect for us can play anywhere across the front 3 and for a player who scored 24 goals and 13 assists this season in all competitions I can't understand why there aren't bids coming in for him left right and centre?

Hello Charles, for TP5, if a crazy bid comes in, let him go. Otherwise, keep him until the end of the season. For ESR, Nketiah, and Reiss, accept any offers over £30M. Use the funds to target new players.
Charles has been seeing how limited Rice is playing for England😂. Keep Partey and keep him fit, we win the league.
On Trossard, agree with you Charles he hasn't had a good Euros and wonder if he is better as a false 9. Had some good performances for us there last season. He could therefore replace Nketiah as a striker option meaning we can go all out for a winger. Ideally one who can play both wings, as seen recently questions about why would someone join just to be backup to Saka. Well if they can play both sides they should get plenty of minutes. What do you think?

I'm in total agreement with you Charles with regards to Thomas Partey the fee we would recieve isn't worth selling him. You have to take in to account the cost to replace him i dont think i would sell him unless we got a rediculous offer and I don't consider 30 million rediculous it would have to be a figure that would enable us to replace him, so we are talking 40 million. And let's be real 40, million doesn't buy you a midfielder of Thomas's calibre. So I'm with you Charles I think we keep him for another season and then let him go for free.
For me, I think £25-ish million for Thomas would tempt me to sell him, £30 million for ESR, £30 million for Eddie and £10-15 million for Reece Nelson.
These are all realistic fees and I think these deals are probably going to happen this summer. That's about £100 million which would be a first for Edu, a great selling window!! Fingers crossed!!
Get party out...and make sure we get good reliable placement...can't be dealing with this poor injury record, it will not be changing next season

Hey Charles, thanks for keeping us all afloat/sane in the offseason.
2 questions:
1) Fabrizio seems to have news every day on some player Chelsea has bid on, is tracking, etc. During a fairly quiet Euro period, they seem to be flashing money everywhere. How is this possible? I thought the new restrictions on long player contracts meant they needed to sell before they could buy? Have I missed something with them?
2) Does it seem like there's been a shift at the Euros in terms of who scores and how teams try to score? Goals are a bit low anyway, but it seems like the names we expect to hear (Lukaku, Mbappe, Kane, Lewandowski, Ronaldo) have all been relatively quiet. Is it a defense-focused shift? Or maybe a transition period in terms of big names aging out (Mbappe excepted)?

Hi Charles, what is your thoughts on Dani Olmo? with a €60m release clause surely he must be a realistic option for further strenthening our attacking and midfield options. Would love to hear your thoughts on this as he has been exceptional and one of Spains standout players so far in the Euros.
People won't like this- but I'm happy to argue that much of the underperformance in England's midfield/attack is due to slow ponderous ball progression out of defense. Stone's has a 3 and a 4 from L'equipe for his in the last 3 games and Walker has only been around 1 point better. While, Tripper tends to pass sideways and back when playing out of position. On reflection, Trent's inclusion in the early games suggests that Southgate knew his defensive choices couldn't break lines. Thinking of solutions, I'd like to see a 3 (one being a passer) at the back with Gordon and Saka as wingbacks. I agree that we'd benefit from 6 who can screen, turn, and move the ball allowing Rice to play 8. How Southgate might do that while navigating the Kane, Foden, and Bellingham 'all want to play in the same space problem' may be difficult. Nevertheless, for me, there is a structural issue that is unlikely to be resolved by tinkering with the front line alone, it's about the speed of progression and is crying out for major surgery in the back line.

There is no BUT with Partey. Let him go on a free? Isnt that exactly what previous regimes were criticised for? Its a huge risk, in fact its a certainty he will be injured at some point in the season. Free the wages and lets stop trying to build a team with a guy who just is hardly ever in the team.
If we sell Partey + ESR, we need midfield replacements for both. (Fofana + Eze or a #8).
If there is any bid for Partey take it without even asking questions.
Thomas shall have to be regarded as one of our worst signings, we had to pay a huge chunk of his release figure in cash! He’s never played in any of our really big games when needed him most! And the few appearances he made were at home against teams we should have beaten. Sooooo hugely disappointing for such a great player, I used to watch him in Spain and he was breathtakingly brilliant 🤬🤬

Charles you really don't understand football finance. Getting 10m for TP could release 50m for a younger midfielder on a 5 year contract. Furthermore, whilst you mentioned his age, contract, and injuries, you omitted to say anything about the allegations against him 18 months ago. We never found out what happened given the expensive lawyers he hired. He may fancy going to Saudi given the culture his religion and the laws
Why keep Partey with the HOPE of he being injury free next season?
His contract is up next year. And Mr. Watts is willing to keep him with the HOPE of him being injury free for 12 months and leave on a free.

Eze isn't good enough for us, at his age we need world class not mid-table prem.
You say that Partey leaving would weaken the squad, but how exactly does he strengthen the squad when he is absent through injury for large swathes of the season?
Whilst we may not get a huge sum of money for him, we will be removing a high earner from our wage bill (I’m not sure exactly what his wages are), and we can then reinvest those funds on a less injury prone and more reliable midfielder. I don’t understand what your fascination with keeping Partey is, when for the most part Arsenal fans are frustrated with him. Yes, he progresses the ball forward better than any of our other midfield players, but that is only when he is fit, which is rare. And if we are to be super critical, he doesn’t protect the ball as well as, say, a Rodri does.
Cash in, find a suitable replacement, and move on. Pep wouldn’t keep such an injury prone player on his roster for as long as we have.

We need to build a strong squad, getting rid of Partey this year is not a good idea. We need to get a new midfielder to compliment Thomas Partey and Jorginho. Selling TP now would be high risk, especially if we are getting a player outside the Premier league to replace him due to the adjustment period they may require, even Rodri need time to adjust to the league.
The Thomas party I know will get injured first game of the season
I always hear Charles watts say rice is a better ball progresser than partey and I do find it laughable, ball progression is not necessary running with the ball, partey moves that ball forward with just clever passing, something no arsenal player currently possesses, so all these links him leaving are absurd and show shallow football knowledge

Hi Charles, seems like Arsenal doesn't have their targets fixed as of yet, meaning they are working on more then one target for a position or the journalist reporting on Arsenal is feed crumbs so far.
Haven't seen any targets besides Sesko linked to Arsenal that has been remotely confirmed by the agent, player, selling club, a brother, an ant or anyone that are usually the case.

It will probably be England v Spain in the finals. Boring football and all England will find a way to make the final.
Fans need to be pateint instead of complaining about signings not being done yet, there is two international tournaments in the euros and copa america in play, once we see teams eliminated/tournaments finish, linked players contracts will be resolved wether moving on from current clubs or staying put
