I just ordered a MSI Stealth 16 AI Studio A1VFG Intel Core 9 185H, 64 GB DDR6 RAM, NVidia RTX 4080 @ 105Hz, QHD+ mini LED display, 2 X 1TB SSDs, all for US$3449 delivered. I just couldnt justify the extra $699 for the RTX 4090. I'm awaiting this machine with great anticipation...
@@christopherkelley2061 I like it so far, very good for the price, slim and performant, easy to carry and I did a lot of heavy gpu usage, it's pretty good. Games run well, i tried cyberpunk and it runs at around 60fps with QHD and light ray tracing. Elden ring is stable at around 50-60 fps with high quality and 2K res
Great video for whom are looking for a longterm use laptop. One concern is that, can the fans is detached from the thermal heatsink? Because of longtime of using, there will be dust in the joint between the fan and the top of the heatsink foils. If it can't be disassambled, that will be very awful
Just put me right off buying an MSI. Was looking at a variation on this laptop but when it's so hard to get into and so fiddly to do something like upgrade RAM I'm a non-starter. Especially since I'm assuming adding the second drive or upgrading RAM will void the warranty... are you able to confirm if that is the case?
I just opened my stealth 16 A13V and the die on the left(I assume CPU) was missing any thermal paste on the part of the die that looks like a separated chiplet. I wonder if I should pick a bone with MSI over it.
That is the chipset part of the CPU, which doesnt heat up that much as the core CPU. If you would apply thermal paste to it, technically the CPU itself will transfer more heat over it resulting a hotter chipset. (which you dont want). Leave it as it is. :)
@MakaiTechReviews ohhhhhh I've never seen a CPU like that. That would explain why CPU temps are still bad but the GPU temps improved. Thank you very much for clearing up my confusion.
Thanks for the video! Considering to buy this (4070 edition) or the Lenovo Yoga 9 Pro Gen9. Hard to find reviews of the MSI. Are you happy with the unit? Does it get very hot on the keyboard? Does it charge with USB C? How do the hinges feel, good quality or do you suspect them to break?
I dont think this is the AI version because the AI version has 7 heat pipe and this one has 5 which means this is the pervious generation no0t the new.
@@SaschaRobitzki I really enjoyed it. If you get the 4070 version it is great for 1080p. Great laptop overall I switched to an asus scar 16 as I needed something to handle 1440p. rtx 4080.
Laptop looks perfectly clean! Great job, MSI!

I assume you got it by now, how do you like it? I am struggling to find any good reviews online. These laptops are too stealthy.
@@christopherkelley2061 Did you come about any good reviews?
thats crazy.. I bought the same laptop for £1820 (about $2200) on black friday...

Those can be removed from the heatpipes for sure.

Thanks for this. Just bought and looking to add a second SSD. It's a stunning piece of kit 🙂
How is the preformance and battery with this unit?
Performance is solid! Gets a little hot and the fans are loud at high speeds but Ive had no serious issues
@@d.oconnor4047 that's great to hear!
Do you hear fans under light load (browsing, watching videos)?
@@viacheslavspitsyn2995 No not at all, especially if you keep it in balanced or ai power modes
Can an M.2 with a heatsink fit or is it recommended to just use a thermal pad?
On the AI studio, I can get the screws out and separate as shown, but I still can't get the back off. Feels like it is binding in the middle.
Figured it out: there is a (7th) screw in the middle, hidden under a sticker. Take that out and it's easy enough.
Great video! Do you sell units you take apart?

Why is the RAM covered with this metal box? What will happen if I remove it? I think it overheats the RAM, don't you guys think?
Thanks for the video!

I'm in a similar boat. The Asus ProArt P16 (H7606) is also a contender for me. Unfortunately, the Lenovo and Asus have soldered RAM.
Thanks for the great video!
It doesn't have a second m2 ssd slot, does it?
It does. It is in between the memory and battery. You can see clearly the empty slot there. The connector for it is next to the Wifi card to the left.
It has!
It definitely does. And they can take up to 8tb.

Though, MSI says the A1VFG is an AI model.
how about the temp on GPU and CPU for long run gaming? is it good sir?
70-80c really good. I own the 4070 ai model
