- Today we are fishing below a major river dam in hopes of catching some catfish. The water was back flowing pretty good so we were able to float our live baits 100 yards up into the gates from where we had to position our boat. It was hard to do, but almost every time we were able to successfully get the baits where they needed to be we would get hit by a catfish! LOL. My great Grandsons jaw hit the ground on that biggest one Jay caught and he screamed, “Oh My God” as loud as he could. It was so funny.
I love how excited Jay gets when shes catching fish. i take my wife fishing and she spends half the day playing on her phone.
Same here 😂 or complaining about how hot it is. But it’s nice to have her out there
That is why I sold my two boats!

Cole & Jay, I fished this dam on the Arkansas River back in the late 19 69-71 fishing from the angle slope going up to the dam with a 14 foot rod, and 9-0 reel and 10-0 hooks and caught so many fish there my PB was 83 lbs. blue cat from the bank on the concrete wall. Lots of stripers, black drum, buffalo, white bass, croppies, flat head catfish, Mississippi white catfish, and some of the bigest gar you have ever seen. Thanks for bringing me back home to my favorite fishing hole, lots of good times there. still looks the same as back then; Only back then they would only let you get 100 yards from the dam in a boat. My daughter in law is very much like Jay. When you see her smile and she's wrestling in a big fish, you just want everything to be wonderful for her. Good catches Jay!!

if not a full blown jacket at least a light life jacket... those currents near a release can be very unpredictable and create an undertow.

One thing I have learned about using cut bait is they seem to love the head better than the body. Those were some nice big fish!

Awesome catches for you folks, be careful putting catfish in your livewell though the slime and they have a habit of expelling stomach contents after a fight and it can cause other fish to die if you don't clean it well after

catching those tanks on a bass pole makes it so much more exciting. I fought a 42 inch flathead on my basspole for about a half hour and it was so fun
We’d use a little bit lighter tackle if we could get the baits where we needed to with it.
@@COLE_and_JAY i was mainly talking about the 1 that you caught on the spoon. That was a pretty fun fight. It's still a ton of fun fishing with the heavy gear

The ones we were using were still having a hard time keeping our baits afloat lol. I want to make some my own out of just some big blocks of styrofoam! Those big floats are nice though when you are drifting them 80-100 yards away from the boat so you can actually see it
How about the bass fisherman in Florida, they use balloon as float for their big live gold shiners?
@@gillgetter3004 yes! I want to use balloons but I’m fishing about 8ft deep and it’s kind of hard to make the cast with 8ft of line out. Also don’t want them to pop rubbing up against the concrete walls

Hey Cole &Jay try using chicken liver to catch really big catfish at the dam. Those fish were awesome. My ex-husband use to fish at the locks and dam here his smallest catfish weight 25 pounds biggest was 40 pounds flatheads and bluecats. Oh believe me they will get much bigger
Now, let me ask: Could you ever imagine Granny pulling in something like that? Makes me wonder what her PB is on catfish? She would freak!
