I've been thinking about buying an angle grinder for projects I'd like to do but I knew very little about them. Now I know. Thank you, Shannon.

I use the segmented diamond blade for most demo, especially cutting nails off. They seem to last almost forever.

One thing I found out is to also wear gloves when grinding. The particles can be sharp for some items and if you don't get them out of your hands, you can get a nice infection. Voice of experience.

Im a carpenter and was helping a welder by cutting some crap for him. He really pushed hard that I wear gloves will grinding or cutting just incase. I assured him there was no need at all. Literally 5 mins into it my finger on the hand that's holding the body of the grinder slides slowly and gently into the disc. I didn't make a peep and just pretended it didn't happen cause I was embarrassed. I nearly lost my finger. It didn't hurt but it left a nasty gash. Fuck was I ever lucky. Never again. I just hate wasting time at work but I have kids and a wife.. they need me and my fingers! Well my paycheck but it all goes hand in hand :)

@@carpentryfirst3048 that's why you leave the guard on genius. And also be aware of your fingers slipping. How can you not realize when you're losing your grip or slipping? We have these things called nerve endings.

@Houseimprovements: the best how to channel out there!
In hindsight I'm laughing at myself now. But wasn't funny at the time.
few years ago I was using an angle grinder ((no guard)) simply to cut off a 2" pvc drain flush with the pea gravel concrete floor around it. (yup) I did that....
just as i was about to complete the job the blade struck the rock of the floor ...
flew out ...breaking into several pieces. one of which barely missed a main vein where thumb joins hand. (did I say ouch yet?) OUCH!
things could have ended much worse.....still bare that scare to this day.
man do I ever have devout respect for grinders & blades.
have a great day everyone. God bless!

Nobody at work knew the answer to this question including myself. The grinding and cutting discs usually have a metal ring on one side . Do you put it on with the ring facing the grinder/arbor or do you have it facing away from the grinder. Or it doesn't make a lick of difference? Anyone know the real answer? Thanks!

Do you need to worry about kick back when using like the concrete blade or even smooth edged tools for that matter? I've had both circle saws and routers running away furiously when they grab.

    • @aquadragon1
      @aquadragon1 7 років тому +3

Yes that can happen. With cutters mostly it happens when pushing too hard trying to force it The thinner one´s cut sweetly but are also more flexing giving a greater chance to that.Don´t force it and keep it all in a straight as you can line. Hold on thight certainly with the large one´s and keep your face clear.

I have a shovel that is covered in hardened cement (mortar) could I use a angle grinder to clean it of, and if so what type of attachment would be best for the job.
PS Great video some very useful information.

    • @mrdojob

A wire wheel, flapping disc or just a bog standard grinding disk. The grinding disc is probably the best all rounder for price/speed hence why everyone has like 50 of them. Be careful with a shovel though because it's got edges that might catch on the disc.

Depends on what you’re cutting. For instance when cutting ductwork it’s easier to take the guard off. However it’s not safe at all. If the wheel breaks and hits you in the face or neck you could die really quick.

Wheels breaking up ? Only time´s i have seen that happen so far is when the user is using stuff wrongly. The cutter is ,well, strictly for cutting. A bit part of it is using stuff for what is supposed to be used for. Don´t like the nuts that use the spanners no need for those since quite some time now those things tend to ¨disappear¨ and different brands using different one´s annoy the heck out of me. So i get the ones that don´t require one. No idea what those are called over there. That said for the smaller grinders you do not need to use them to tighten the nut anyway. Put your disk on loch the mechanism put the nut on by hand as far it will go and the disk itself a bit of a turn. It really can´t come of since the spinning direction of the machine is counter clockwise. officially you should have the upside of the disk , the side that has all the writing on it, facing the machine and check the date. They should an ¨experation¨ date. Well at least over here if you want to use it profesionally.
