  • This is an unboxing of the MACK Brass TU420s CC tuba, which is a copy of the Yamaha YCB-621 3/4 CC tuba. This tuba has a few customizations and modifications, like the addition of the fifth-valve and a larger, 16" bell. I hope to post a full tuba review sometime in the future, so subscribe to the channel and stay tuned for more tuba and music related content.
I hope that you enjoy this tuba unboxing!

I bet Harvey Phillips would have really liked this horn. You sound a bit like him with that setup. Very elegant horn that would work well in solo or chamber music but might be large enough to take to a band rehearsal or to an orchestra for a piece not calling for the big guns. This looks to be the subway tuba par excellence.
Thanks for showing us this new horn. Keep us posted, Dylan. All the best!

Those Chinese tuba cases sure have an interesting smell to them. Of course, I like the smell of gasoline, so I think I like the smell of Chinese plastic.

    Awesome! Sounds solid.
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts and opinions on this tuba, and if you would recommend it.

The Jinbao factory has really stepped up their game recently! I recently worked with Tom and purchased a Thor copy done by ZO and it is great! Tom Mcgrady is a great and upstanding guy.

I love all of the competition coming from China these days. It puts more tubas into more people’s hands...

@Gregs Designs Interesting point. I can see why that is happening. I guess we should all hang on to those "vintage" instruments.

Your comment makes no sense. How can you say these are bringing down the price of vintage German and American made instruments while saying that these horns are inferior? The only way these could bring down the market of other instruments is if they were competitive to them. You state that these will never be of the same quality, have you ever taken apart a vintage german made horn or a horn made in China?
Seems that a lot of pros are playing these horns and if memory serves me correctly, in one of the last auditions that was held recently, there were 2 finalists that were playing on tubas made in China.

The real reason prices have decreased for European and American vintage instruments is due to a larger selection of instrument models being offered to the market. Basic economics, larger the selection the lower the price. If the new stuff coming from China was soo inferior they would have no impact on the instruments they were competing with.
My first tuba purchased was a used Miraphone 186 CC back in 1984 for $2900.00. It was this price because back then there was nothing that really competed with it. When there is no competition, you can name your price and get it. Right now, if i were to take a major audition, it would be on tubas made in China.Very soon, someone will win a major audition playing on a horn made in China and thats a fact.

Gregs Designs If the instruments are superior, then they will fetch a much higher price. But they aren’t always superior. Tubas are exactly that- tubes that contain standing waves when the player buzzes the right frequency. Horns that copy successful geometries will sound good and play well in tune when operated by skilled players.
