Ok I just want to point out the "duel personality" bar. That shit is actually brilliant. Obviously yeah it's a duel/dual wordplay which isn't anything to special, but the fact that Yugi's "dual" personality almost only comes out to duel really sells the bar. It's literally his duel personality.

In Pokémon the Pokédex or dex is the data of all Pokémon. Half your dex (which also sounds like decks) cut implies that while Ash has traveled the world he either gave, released or have some situation of him losing his Pokémon. Or it could also imply with the new Pokémon Sword/Shield a lot of Pokémon were removed but eventually put back in lol 😅. It’s excellent writing I must say. Hope this helps and have a nice day.

It's funnier when you recall Yu-Gi-Oh did not start as a series to sell a card game, the author just wanted the characters to play a card game like MTG because he was a fan but did not want to pay the rights, and made a simpler and faster game that got popular enough to become real. What's even funnier is that it's a pretty different game, the Pokemon card game is much more like MTG, with energies basically being lands, made me wish Yugi would have pointed out that despite it's origins, the game changed enough there are videos longer than one hour about explaining MTG characters how to play Yu-Gi-Oh or even explain things like the Extra Deck while the Pokemon TCG is MUCH easier to get into for Magic fans.

As much as I love both battlers, and have been since I was a kid, I'm afraid Yugi wiped the floor with Ash on this one. Both had good bars, but he was about as merciless as his antagonists. Should have mentioned in addition to the length of time it took Ash to win a championship, that Yugi won several in a fraction of the time. And given that he was still King of Games in GX as an adult it's pretty much canon he kept winning even without Atem.
Fun fact: the original incarnation of the game from the manga, Magic and Wizards, was inspired by Magic the Gathering. So I think that was a cool reference. :)

Reading the comments- just wanted to say- Plot armor can be broken into two categories: competition and survival. Yugi definitely has plot armor when it comes to winning duels, but if Ash didn't have plot armor, he would've died in the first episode of Pokemon. And many, many times after that. Poisoning, electrocution, falling from insane heights, etc.

A better one would of probably been Kaiba vs Gary Oak, Considering: -Both had major losses (Raticate death for Gary) -both rich bastards -both antagonists towards the main hero/bragging constantly -has arguably the best choices of mons/cards at the time -both technically use dragons as their main partner. (Charizard/Blue eyes white dragon) And all that, but I suppose it makes more sense for them, since they are more popular I believe. Still very nice battle, Also, yugi won. Very little contest.
Only spitting facts for both, Ash honestly lost before the rap started, blame the Pokemon franchise. Yugi's last line "I'm out, like every girl you meet" was too fire. Ash is still under leveled from 20 years of training and never won a championship, and do we still talk about the Pokemon Sun & Moon anime tournament. Yugi even beat the Pharaoh at the end of the anime who used Egyptian Gods, well that's plot armor for you, tbh in real life you don't need god cards to beat 3 god cards, they're bad cards irl.
I mean, hell- he beat Slyfer because he brain controlled a card that can revive continuously. Slyfer needed the duelist to draw 3 cards each hand; he literally ran out of his deck.
In the anime gods had like 15 effects or something. Like they were unaffected except by gods. It took like 18 years to have a Monster with such protection and Attack (arrival cuneese @ignister) so yeah they were very hard to beat without a god

I don't care that he beat Atem at the end, ATEM built his entire reputation as a peerless duelist for him. Ash built his own reputation on only his own skill and merit (and maybe a little bit of "chosen one" bias), but the fact is he did it himself, with no influence from an outside source.
Oh and can I mention that the pharaoh technically did "catch em all" when he used a spell to turn them all to stone... dang, Pharaoh did ashes job in one day then what ash will ever do in his lifetime... ( he didn't turn the shadow monsters to stone, he actully just trapped them in the stone but you guys get what I'm saying)

Plot armor can be broken into two categories: competition and survival. Yugi definitely has plot armor when it comes to winning duels, but if Ash didn't have plot armor, he would've died in the first episode of Pokemon.

I don't care that he beat Atem at the end, ATEM built his entire reputation as a peerless duelist for him. Ash built his own reputation on only his own skill and merit (and maybe a little bit of "chosen one" bias), but the fact is he did it himself, with no influence from an outside source.
