WEREWOLF RECORDS is proud to present VARGRAV's highly anticipated second album, Reign in Supreme Darkness, on CD and vinyl LP formats.
Hailing from Finland, the root of VARGRAV originated during starless nights in late 2015. Working in clandestine solitude, sole creator V-Khaoz - a prolific veteran of the Finnish black metal underground, dating back to the late '90s - soon shaped the initial vision of VARGRAV's debut album and submitted it, in demo form, to various labels. During the the summer of 2016, WEREWOLF RECORDS was immediately chosen to be the most suitable collaborator with which to work, and the sinister glow of the black flame began to burn brighter...
Alas, at the dawn of 2018 came VARGRAV's debut album, Netherstorm, and it indeed took the underground by storm, garnering rave reviews across the world. Not surprising, this, as the album offered a boundlessly fresh perspective by honoring the ancient past: specifically, the oft-unjustly-derided "symphonic black metal" subgenre, which back in simpler, more idealistic times was simply BLACK METAL. No matter what appellation you put upon it, Netherstorm radiated a spellbinding magick that was impossible to deny. The past was alive, with VARGRAV lighting the way...
And now, V-Khaoz returns to quickly eclipse that feat with VARGRAV's second album, Reign in Supreme Darkness. Ever aptly titled, Reign in Supreme Darkness is essentially an intensification and consolidation of Netherstorm's most enduring traits, expanding the band's lexicon by basically speaking it more boldly than before. Still a swarming, densely layered maelstrom of medieval majesty and moonlit madness, here VARGRAV heightens the drama that's latently laid at the band's core, focusing the attack into more finessed form, and stripping away some of its predecessor's more blizzard-blown excesses. In their stead arrives a more dynamic approach to songwriting, varying tempos while maximizing movement, and an overall more mournful and mysterious aspect to the prominent layers of synth.
Just as timeless as Netherstorm, if not more so, VARGRAV once again evokes the visionary works of old Obtained Enslavement, Dimmu Borgir, Abigor, Limbonic Art, and especially early Emperor. And once again, another classic of symphonic black metal graces the purple-velvet landscape of our imagination, and it bears the justifiably arrogant title of Reign in Supreme Darkness.
In The Nightside Eclipse VOL II: Reign in Supreme Darkness
In a Good way.
In the nightside eclipse of moon in the scorpio ;)
yeah it's similar to emperor but I think vargrav has some unique style of riffs, it's like the rebellious son of emperor
My thoughts exactly. I've always thought based on the album cover it almost has to be intentional right? I wonder if there's an interview where it's spoken of.. time to look into it.
Definitely not in a biting way though, more like a homage.
This album is perfect for when you want to listen to 'In the Nightside Eclipse' but you don't want to listen to 'In the Nightside Eclipse'.
"but you don't want to listen to In the Nightside Eclipse'" does such a thing even exist
I'd rather say "when you just listened to In The Nightside Eclipse, and now you want to continue with something of a similar mood".
(so you check the collection... well, Frozen Shadows - recently listened, Grifteskymfning - the same... Oh, Vargrav - let's listen to this stuff)
@@theworstben nope.
I hear also a lot of influences from Kvist
Huh?.. That's like choosing a skoda when you own a Lambourgini!
If this album makes you wanna march from Minas Morgul to Minas Tirith, don’t worry, it’s completely understandable
🤘🥃🥃
Could we call it Fantasy Black Metal?
You spoke from my deepest soul !!!
The band name has "Varg" Forwards and Backwards...
*Mindblown*
does it? LET'S FIND OUT !
Palindrome
Wow... the 90's are back!!! reminds me so much of many Bands of this glorious Era!
history always repeats... and we all can't wait for the glorious Era to return
If I haven't read the description and someone told this was a lost and newly found Emperor album I would have believed it. Can hardly believe this is a new record as it has all the necro vibes from the 90's when I first started to listen BM. Remembers me the glorious times when I listened to this recently discovered genre closed in my bedroom playing cassettes night and day long. Absolutly worship this!!!
necro vibes? is that a band or genre?
This album made into the third place on Finnish CD sales.
Wow, incredible. Even imagining something like this placing third in the USA is impossible.
Fucking love Finland
Second was belzebubs album at that time. Pretty usual stuff in Finland
This is the official spiritual successor to In The Nightside Eclipse to me. Same back up choir vocals, same style of keyboards, same drumming and guitar production. The style is 1 to 1 similar.
I thought that about Mooncitadel.
I wouldn't go that far, it's decent sympho bm but nothing special as to put it in the same league as something like In The Nightside Eclipse..
@@GoldenGateNum9 No, but it's still a wonderful alternative
I think this is homage to them.
Have to go for a night stroll in my forests of tall spruces ... Then, I have to lit a firecamp with birchwood and staring at february fullmoon and I will Reign in Supreme Darkness. BM must be listened in old moors. Thanks Vargrav for that.
Damn man.... You're right👍🏻
The Nocturnal feelings are incredibly strong within this record, a true modern masterpiece of the Black Metal ancient spirit! 🌕🦇
90s Black metal at its best! Hail Darkness, hail Vargrav!
I didnt know i needed an Emperor clone until I found this.
I was thinking the same thing, haha!
It's Avatar Memoriam Draconis clone in a way!
Absolutely glorious. Yet another Finnish black metal masterpiece.
best offsping Of Emperor
excellent symphonic (90's) black metal
great band and another great album, hail Vargrav \m/
I have 1 year listening this album , and it´s still equals emotionant wich the prime day when I listened this
that artwork is so cool
Epic, Triumphant, Dark and Mystic. That is really IN THE NIGHTSIDE ECLIPSE Part 2. But such better. Vargrav is the answer of the Question where today's Black Metal standing. Here it is, a perfectly Masterwork of Black Metal from Finnland. That is the continue of 90s Black Metal.
Around the 27 minute mark is one of the best moments I’ve heard in black metal lately. Nearly perfect album, will buy soon.
Truly the best release I've heard in the last few years. An absolutely perfect black metal album, all the way from the majestic synths to the cold grunts and the eerie spoken word-parts.
Oh yes Dude. You're so fuckin right. Hell yeah, this Album is absolutely Dark Power.
Fantastic album. Brings those "old days"vibe.
Total old school Emperor worship, but dammit it's good! And what is it with purple album covers? It seems like so many top notch bm albums sport purple covers.
Even the album art has an Emperor feel
This song give wings to my phantasies. A full moon night in a winter forrest so cold. Every pain are frozen.
Emperors family In this chaos world hands down perfect in so many ways hails !!!
I don´t think I have heard an album like this since Odium´s The Sad Realm of the Stars. Great Stuff, my copy is ordered
A great album right their!!!
Very same like!!! Ive listened them both recently very much..
And to limbonic arts moon in the scorpio.
Oh fuck yesss, I abuse the hell out of this on vinyl...
This is literaly Emperor with different guys playing the music. As a huge Emperor fan I fucking love this. Reminds me so much of In The Nightside Eclipse..
Beautiful album like my favorite In the Nightside Eclipse from Emperor. Great work \m/ \m/
What a glorious manifestation black sorcery
18:23, emperor - towards the pantheon, anyone?🙂 Awesome album by the way👍🏼
Great 'In the Nightside Eclipse' vibes.
Fuck yeah. 2nd in the chart's for sold albums in finland. 3rd in general chart💪 blackmetal lives and has everything nice in Finland
That has to be the best Band Logo ever made!!
Emperor Nightside Eclipse... Covenant - In times before the light...!! Great music from scandinavia! *Hail the northern frostlands*
Back to the 90's \m/
Now this album is Into the Nightside Eclipse Pt.2
Very very well done
I was going to wait on my preorder arriving before listening but I can’t wait.
Stoped at rouglhy 10 mins, I'm waiting on th vinyl eheh
Just have patience.
This is almost beyond belief. This is perfection!
In the nightside eclipse part 2 ?
Godless Pandemonium's intro reminds me of Dissection so much!!
CROWNED BY DEMONSTORMS, my fave song from the album
Another epic band from Finland ... Finns and music go well together
Great indeed. When you go near to a finnish lake, you know what listening to BM is ...
strong emperor vibes
Nice touch with the souls rising ever so subtly in the artwork.
The first few minutes in, the old school EMPEROR fan within me wanted to scold..... but this is far too beautiful!!! Buying asap!!
28:22 and out of nowhere comes a Dissection riff (amazing album)
Absolutely, I thought exactly the same while listening to this track!
Same thing here, I was like, woah that sounds like Dissection a lot, which is very good to hear XD
XD
It's great... can't wait to receive the CD and iynyl
holy fuck that album art is so damn cool
why black metal album art gotta be so damn good
Beautiful Work ❤️😍
Respect to this band! great sound with the 90s feeling. \m/
Great vocal style
Majestic band&album!!! Simply beautiful black art.
Perfectly Amazing
Been looking forward to this!
Wow! This is SO similar to 'In the Nightside Eclipse'. Those vocals and keys sound like they were taken straight out of said album! :D
This.....is such a GOOD album. Fuck!!
much, much better than the debut. The debut was great but he/they have really fleshed the concept out on this one. I listen to this all the time, it gives off one of the most perfect cold/forest black metal feelings of any bm album ever. One of the only modern black metal albums that makes it into my top 10. Anyone know if there is a 3rd album coming or if the project is now laid to rest?
Third album will come out eventually.
Beautiful
Awesome, as many said: trve 90s vibe. Love it!
Finally , I have been hyped for this...
I like how their name is a palindrome :) I was just enjoying this epic album which exhibits the true and the actual definition of the sound that made me an ABM fan in first place years ago. While listening I was examining their logo, which I usually don't do, unless I really like the band, and realized that the name is symmetric along the "G-axis" haha.
this is great! fantastic live in Montreal!
The first track sounds like the opening to a really epic movie
wow ive got goosebumps all the time ... very original stuff .. damn !
AMAZING PIECE OF MUSIC.....A BEAUTIFUL BLACK ART!!!!
This band is amazing
omg the guy has the vortex vocals this is perfect
Amazing!!!..... I am lost for words!!!!!!🤘
I never really was into Emperor (I found this while listening Limbonic Art and early Bal-Sagoth), but this catched me at first listen. Though with a sound clearly tributary to Emperor, I think the cinematic, dark fantasy elements (there are obvious LOTR references) makes the difference. I like it a lot.
Highly glorious!
Album of the fucking year!
Finland Reigns supreme!!!
Yeah, don't know what's up up there but they make some insanely great Black Metal
Fun side. This is nr. 2 on the official chart of Finland for selled albums. 3rd in general (streaming etc...)
I quite like the band Verjnuarmu.
I like Krypts too.
Insanely talented. This made my week.
🌹Beautiful .. artwork also, can't believe how much they've improved, this is how I Imagined Bishop Of Hexen's long awaited and disappointing The Death Masquerade 2020 was going to sound after the amazing Nightmarish Compositions 2006 .... really makes me think of Sirius - Aeons Of Magic ... The Eye - Supremacy ... Evilfeast - Elegies Of The stellar wind ... Old Sorcery - Sorrowcrown ... Parnassus - In Dolorium Gloria ..... their not there yet but are def on the right path ❤🌹
totally agree
so old school but something modern abt it.
Great sound but the keyboards are a bit to loud in the mix for my taste.I can't hear the riffs cause them keys are drowning out the guitars
i'm listening to this in hopes that it helps freeze over my ice rink faster.
Nostalgia coming in - Love it!
Reign in the supreme nightside eclipse of darkness
Ohh,, Back to the 90`s.. Great.. have not listen to this band before..
Great info on here as well as top notch black metal. I 666% agree about the symphonic part.......this is fucking Black Metal! Quite possibly album of the year. It gets harder every year to find gems like this. Thanks for helping bring this into the dark......
This is true
I changed my mind completely ,,, this by all means is the parallel reality " In The Nightside Eclipse " , The band is not just inspired by Emperor , they actually came up with the correct & original formulah for a repeated ITNE but repeated in time for the fifth generation of black metal.
how many people are referring to in the nightside eclipse just for the cover? there is nothing similar, musically
Welcome back '90 and fuck off to modern hyper production!
Masterpiece 🥺🖤
impresionante saludos desde "Argentina".
28:22 Dissection
Innit!
Hail dissection🤘💀🤘
I know its not dissection
It's absolutely dissection.
Compiments with this great band Werwolf! I love the 1st track, gives me a lot of Limbonic Art vibes.
Good one, will get this on vinyl
This is how late 90s emperor SHOULD have sounded like.
You mean IX equilibrium onwards?
Hombre , 2 da banda que me llegó , de tus listas , no es fácil encontrar bandas buenas
Remember the time when Abigail Williams tried to make an album claiming it sounded like Emperor's debut album only to sound like anything but that?
Vargrav does a perfect job than AW.
Which album was that?
4:50 is so damned Emperor
ITS IN THE NIGHTSKY ECLIPSE PART 2....AND A VERY GOOD CONTINUATION AT THT GUYS AND GRILS....
Hell yeah awesome album.Hail Darkness 💀🔥💗👍👍👍
My new favorite Finnish black metal band
This is a one of the founding members of azaghal, v chaos and he have other psnds /project.. Marras.. Etc..
This album rocks. It's like if mid-era Dimmu Borgir had been better executed and not so cheesy. Good solid Emperor / LImbonic Art vibes too. Cool record!
Dimmu did it better than anyone ever has
Jajajajajajaja claro que si Robertito, y luego te despiertas de la siesta
The last track is so beautiful !!
Unbelievably amazing
Silne mi to pripomína Limbonic Art....Ale pohoda...Príjemná muzika.
Superb \m/
