    Thanks, I really enjoy the format of these videos! I've struggled to get this right for a sink tip, usually ending up with too long a leader. Getting deep down is crucial when fishing for salmon in spring rivers here in Scandinavia. The perfection loop is great but takes some practice to get small enough.

    This is great! I need to search some more of your videos to see how to rig up a sink tippet to which kind of fly line. I'm brand new to the fly rod game. Thanks for the information, nice to see others so willing to be of help. Billy from Michigan.

      I purchased a Rio versiTip II, It comes with various sink tips and 53' of "running line". Can you please explain this for me, because I thought that I was going to be using floating line with a sink tip. And please feel free to to drop your website so I can thank you properly. :) I need a second reel for this set up. I know that I sound dumb and it's because I am.... About actual fly rod fishing. 26 yrs on the spin with flies and want to learn to do it right. Thanks for any help and or advice.

    What speed/depth sink tip do you use for different waters, if you don't mind my asking. New to this and I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Thank you.

    100% always just a 5-6ft. run of straight maxima. Sometimes Ill use flourocarbon if i wanna get deeper faster. Sink tip swing leaders should be super simple.

  • @rowdymacd

    Maxima hands down. Nothing else compares

    great instructional video and editing rod. thanks matt, your instructions are sharp and to the point...Q- , wht if , in a fast water situation, you find that your sink tip is still not going down , would you then use split shots to get the fly down.? thanks. i have learned lots of stuff here. cheers dudes.

      @FishingwithRod  6 років тому +2

      Thanks! I personally don't fly fish that much so can't answer all the questions, but I think the sink tips being used have to match the current speed so no additional weights like split shots need to be added.

    Great video on how to build a sink tip. What pound test would you use to build a similar leader for trout? Thanks

      Thanks Bill! Matt actually has a separate video tutorial on setting up a nymphing rig for trout which can be seen at:

    what if your sink tip didn't have a loop on the end? How would you recommend connecting your custom leader?

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  5 років тому +1

      There are ways to create a loop at the end of your sink tip. I would head into your local tackle store and either get them to do one up for you, or buy packages of loops which can make your life a lot easier.

    If you notice the ad for ECO FISh EZ tie 4 in 1 tool, be aware the delivery charge is $16 US and I am still waiting for delivery of my order placed in early April 2020

      Hi Tudor, the ad you see at the beginning of the video is provided by UA-cam. What ad pops up is determined by Google, depending on what you have been searching for, so it is unlikely others are seeing the ad you are referring to and we certainly have no responsibility for it. Thanks for watching!

      @@FishingwithRod I am not having a pop at you guys. Your videos are excellent. I am trying to make others aware of the issue I am having to prevent them being in the same boat. Tight lines.

    Wished u would have shared about the last step, adding sink line. What length? What brand? What weight etc.... I've seen Rio sinking intouch T8,T11, T14. But nothing else? It's kind of confusing 😕

      Hi Cary, I've sent a message to Matt about this and hopefully he'll be able to answer your questions here from the Pacific Angler account. :)

    If you're fishing sink tip why not fish flurocarbon? that sinks.

    • @hattrickster33
      @hattrickster33 5 років тому +2

      Yeah I typically use 12lb Seaguar or Maxima fluorocarbon with sink tips. It definitely sinks faster and obviously it's invisible in the water. The only drawback is that the knots are a bit weaker. This is only a problem if you forget to wet the knot. Fluorocarbon is easily damaged by heat from friction.

  • @sharky125
    @sharky125 6 років тому

    So just the maxima and no tippet ? Also, 15 lb but section goes at the end closest to fly or sink tip?

    • @fusilly__
      @fusilly__ 6 років тому

      No tippet needed. Butt section connects to sink tip.

      Awesome info. Thanks! In hi water winter steelheading, getting to the right depth is half the battle.
