I actually take offense at the statement that Futurama is similar to Family Guy. Whether you like the shows or not, Futurama parodies sci-fi tropes and centers around sci-fi hijinks. That's where the humor comes from . Family Guy has random cutaway gags that have nothing to do with whatever sitcom plot they're going with.
