Yeah, and just like back in the Elton Golden Era...every song is good to great. And just like when Elton was with the original band (Nigel Olsson drums/vocals, Dee Murray bass/vocals and Davey Johnstone guitars/vocals) the famous creative quickness in recording was back...two weeks to write and record Too Low for Zero.
Billy Joel and Elton John both acknowledge each other’s ability as the top “piano men”. They toured at least once together. I saw them in the 90s where they played and sang each others songs which was wild.
There was a period they were touring together all the time! They would sell out multiple dates in the same city (of course) and one night Elton would start, then Billy would join him, then Billy would would finish, the next night they switched.

He has many more A or A+ ballads as that is probably his true forte, so I'll highlight a few of his remaining upbeat songs you must hear: "Honky Cat" - a great New Orleans vibe on what may be his most fun tune, "Philadelphia Freedom" - a Philly soul vibe, and "Bitch is Back" -- more of a hard rock side.
Heard Bernie Taupin in a radio interview just a few weeks ago where he said that he wrote the lyrics for each song and sent them to Elton and then forgot about them. Elton would then add the music and sing. He never changed any of Bernie's lyrics and Bernie never interfered with Elton's melody. It was the perfect partnership. On this song, add Stevie Wonder into the mix on harmonica and how could it not be amazing!

Bernie literally writes the lyrics, sends them to Elton, and he writes the music... always apart... never together. Elton apparently has an unmatched talent for coming up with a tune for the lyrics in short order when he reads them... he has that gift! Now... if you want another great 80's Elton song, try "Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)"... written in memory of his friend John Lennon... beautiful! If you want a few great 70's songs you need to hear, try "Have Mercy On the Criminal", "Stinker", "Dirty Little Girl", "Grey Seal", or " I've Seen That Movie Too"! As a lifelong fan of Elton, I can assure you that you'll love them! Then there are his amazing B-sides that were originally only released as B-sides to his singles on 45 records.... that's another area to explore, as are his phenomenal songs with just him, solo on piano and vocals! "Ticking" and "Talking Old Soldiers" are both a punch to the gut! 11:16

This was a #4 and I’m Still Standing was #12 although it now is considered one of his signature songs. This is also a reunion album for Elton’s most iconic 70s band consisting of Nigel Olsson on drums, Dee Murray on bass and Davey Johnstone on guitar. Nigel and Dee were replaced after Captain Fantastic was recorded in 1975. I remember being shocked by that news. Couldn’t understand it. Dee passed away in 1992 and Davey and Nigel are still with Elton today. Davey is the musical director for the band.

Big up Watford, UK. Elton’s home town. I love how he bought the football club and I lived one road away from the stadium. So in the 80’d he’d do live performances at the stadium (to raise money to buy players) And we’re not talking US size stadiums, it was small. I’d go see him. Great times.

80's Elton John doesn't get enough respect! While his 70's work gets the most attention, this album had hit after hit!! Bernie Taupin is the lyrics guy, and he just put out a new autobiography! I'm sure it's worth the read! Sad Songs (Say So Much) and Little Jeannie would be good to hear next.
Bill and Elton toured together 5 times, dudes... they have nothing but love for each other's talents. The "Pianist' that Elton thought was really "huge" (dang, now I'm playing into your sad-ass jokes) was the incredible Bruce Hornsby, and since you haven't reacted to him... y/gotta do it! "The Way It Is" was a monster hit, "Mandolin Rain" may be even better.

Always loved this song as a fan of Everton football club. Theres a story from the 80s that Elton was at Goodison and fans started chanting "I guess thats why they call us the blues" after Everton beat his team, Watford
Elton ALWAYS has the Best Background Vocals in his songs. Im 47 and i started listening to Elton when i was about 14 or 15 when brother, who is 8 years older than me, vouched and recommended his music to me, and to this day he is one of my top 3 favorite Artists. Greatest Hits volume 1,2,& 3 are my go to’s. Legendary Music
Elton is most definitely a Sir. Great reaction, this obviously must've been filmed a while back as we have a King now with Charles and Queen Elizabeth II died a year ago, and Elton had his absolute final performance a few months ago.
This is really my favorite of Elton's "later" hits.... pretty much because it reminds me of his early songs in its flow and changes.
I took my mom to see both Elton John and Billy Joel for mother day at least 10 years ago and it was the most expensive concert tickets I’ve ever bought. But it was a fantastic show. Two pianos facing each other and they played each others songs. It was amazing 🔥

Elton John's best song. Lyrically, musically, and his voice was in that sweet spot between the 70s when it was higher and the mid 90s and beyond when it got much deeper.

Big up Watford, UK. Elton’s home town. I love how he bought the football club and I lived one road away from the stadium. So in the 80’d he’d do live performances at the stadium (to raise money to buy players) And we’re not talking US size stadiums, it was small. I’d go see him. Great times.

Guys, I'm in New Zealand and I've see Elton a couple of times in concert, honestly sounds exactly the same live and up there with best concerts I've seen. Same with Billy Joel. If you have any chance of seeing him it's a lifetime highlight 😊

80's Elton John doesn't get enough respect! While his 70's work gets the most attention, this album had hit after hit!! Bernie Taupin is the lyrics guy, and he just put out a new autobiography! I'm sure it's worth the read! Sad Songs (Say So Much) and Little Jeannie would be good to hear next.
Bill and Elton toured together 5 times, dudes... they have nothing but love for each other's talents.
The "Pianist' that Elton thought was really "huge" (dang, now I'm playing into your sad-ass jokes) was the incredible Bruce Hornsby, and since you haven't reacted to him... y/gotta do it!
