The first line in the text descriptors of Undertale is "\\XLa, la.^3 &Time to wake&up and\\R smell\\X &the^4 pain./" - which is why a red "smell" appears during text storage and text corruption. The line is test dialog left over in the game.
And the reason why "smell" is the only word you can see is because the rest of the text is black, since it's formatted to display on the dialogue boxes monsters use in battle, except for that which is formatted to be red.
God I love this game so much. Constantly subverting expectations and proving that graphics and how emotionally invested you can get are not synonymous.
See, I think I know a lot about Undertale strictly as a CASUAL player, but the speed tech is a wonderful expanding world for me. I had to learn punch card wrong warp to find a secret in Deltatraveler chapter two and, honestly, so much helpful info is out there from kind speedrunners/glitch hunters that I found a quick little tutorial on UA-cam with ease. I love Toby. His writing, his music. He's enhanced my life so much, and one of the indirect ways he's done that is by introducing me to the coolest catboy Shay(n)y(an). P.S. Ending 61.
This needs so much more appreciation and eyes on it. I've seen speedruns before, and skilled play, but Shavy is something else. If the keysmashing didn't give it away, dude is a god at the game and packs one hell of an educational punch. Humbled with appreciation for this video that's dense with information delivered in a fun way with great commentary and chemistry between both parties. It also doesn't have the more cynical tone a long-time speedrunner or glitchhunter would sometimes have during show-offs like these but is made with as much love and appreciation as the game itself has in it. I also like this format and will look for more of these, and forward to seeing more in the future. Thank you. Although I am a complete novice at wiki stuff I will try my best to list this under an "awesome" entry for GDQ on TVtropes in the hopes that I can get more people to watch this 2.5 hour spectacle of madness.
Favorite glitch has to be the Sans date. I like that in Undertale, and to see Sans threatening you with You threw the punch card on the ground made me laugh.
1:19:46 i did this in my first playthrough. i'd heard you could grow a tree if you pour the water out, so i spammed it, until the text called me sadistic for pouring it all out in front of Undyne, and I had to reset to keep my true pacifust.
2:07:31 - Fun fact: You do not need the punch card for this skip. You can literally just walk out of the elevator without activating it at all, and it takes you back to the CORE anyway.
I love mechanical keyboards, but the mashing in this video is really distracting for me. >.< I want to learn something from this because Shayy clearly knows so much about the game, but every time the mashing happened it like, short-circuited my brain.
The ferry guy doesn't actually charge you gold, he just pays you. Think you can technically grind infinite gold this way, even if it's super inefficient

I love the dog check so much. It's such a goofy way of Toby telling you "hey buddy you're not supposed to be here!!!!"
It's a great way to implement error handling. Some games do even consider error handling, so your game can just freeze
@@camwyn256 it's useful bc it separates in-game issues from issues w your computer, which is always useful

wait, I recognize that. isn't that also debug for one of Deltarune's test battles?

whoever made the thumbnail needs a raise
The keysmashing is so funny to me.
Absolutely normal thing to speedruns, tho
Whoever kept changing the estimated time, A++! I noticed you lol
pff thanks for pointing that out

Grievous error
I love seeing Shayy run this here, I found him by watching one of his True 100% runs on UA-cam and so I'm super glad to see him getting more exposure!

The fact the Toby adds lines to some of these glitches makes it so much funnier.
This was great to watch live, looking forward to watching it again!

thats only on switch
the keyboard spamming makes such satisfying noises
Mechanical keyboards are a different kind of satisfying
This is the first time I actually understood the punch card exploit properly.
When the names and videos were mismatched at first was a little confusing, haha
MORE SHAYY CONTENT LETS GOOOOOO
the fact that they started out switched in the titles was funny for a TNHB bit (that was on purpose ... right?)
I love mechanical keyboards, but the mashing in this video is really distracting for me. >.< I want to learn something from this because Shayy clearly knows so much about the game, but every time the mashing happened it like, short-circuited my brain.
Did TNHB change themes? I thought it was supposed to be for run categories that hasn't been run before at a GDQ.
You're thinking of Never Before Seen! Airs the same week as TNHB, Wednesday at 10PM Eastern. TNHB has always been glitch showcases/ breakdowns
@@ChurchnSarge thanks for the clarity!

47:20 doesn't he pay you 3 gold?
Papyrus' color puzzle must be in debug mode all the time
The estimate changed to Later Monster Kid and glitches happened in real life.
Didnt know ng+ skips all flowey dialog. Thought it only made the final boss optional
Flowey bossfight doesnt have any glitches but it still has closing strats. Maybe mention that next time
I actually had fun value 66 on my first playthrough and got the hallway tho not Gaster, imagine getting gaster on a first playthrough..
excuse me , it's past 4am is it a dream
Whoa there!
Wooo shayy 🙌
Yo!
