The Harley Benton DC Custom a really nice guitar I got mine 4 or 3 Years ago and it still rocks! It's btw my only and first Guitar (I'm playing since 5 years) ist a real good Guitar!
The era of expensive guitars, which only great idols had, is over. Some modifications and improvements made by a competent luthier on this guitar and you will have a good instrument. Of course added to that a good amplifier ... And know how to play ...
DurdyClaude Well, you can afford that. And that’s fine. If I had the disposable income, I’m sure I’d buy an expensive guitar without batting an eyelash. But most of us can’t afford to drop over a grand on a guitar. A lot of us can’t even afford over $500 on a guitar. I have a mortgage, a family to feed and necessities to purchase. I’m thankful that people who can’t afford top-of-the-line now have way better options than we did even 20 years ago.
@DurdyClaude True, but I buy guitars to play and not as some investment to be hidden away. Most of my guitars are top of the line and I would never dream of selling them, but I may buy a cheap guitar to use as a practise instrument that can be left out of its case 24/7 without me being concered about it getting dinged, dropped or knocked about.
@DurdyClaude I payed £400 for it 2nd hand. The cheapest and first real guitar I owned was an East German made classical guitar that cost £34 new in 84. The quality of the fret board was really bad but it sounded amazing and got me through my Trinty college of music grade 2 exam . I wish I had never sold it and although my new classical guitar has a hundred times better build quality I am not sure that it sounds much better. The same goes for these cheap guitars. They may be inferior in some aspects but they are great starter guitars.
I agree. Gibson is about to be sucked into the void. The quality of the Chinese made Epiphone products and their affordability is, unfortunately for Gibson, just another nail in their coffin. And Harley Benton just bitch slapped Epiphone.
I bought the DC custom a few months ago, and I think it's a gorgeous guitar. I'm a born again learner of electric guitar, but I just can't believe how good this thing looks, and sounds, for it's price. It beats my bottom end Epiphone SG in all areas, except pickup power output. Oh, and this DC Custom is the one with coil split too.... = more tones :)
My grandson saved his lawn mowing money and got the Harley Benton DC-580 (The SG model that came out prior to the Custom) also in cherry color for only $116.00 plus shipping. Very impressed with the quality and sound.
This is my guitar of choice to start with, and will get it as soon as I can. Beautiful looks and outstanding rock sounds, has me in love with it for some time.
After watching your video I went ahead and ordered one it was a B stock so even less money. I received it and was so wonderfully surprised! Even though it was a "B" Stock I found no flaws. It is awesome! Thanks for your work and time on this video it really helped me to choose.
I’ve watched a few videos because you’re the only guy that can really play that reviews these guitars. Most are just hacks. However, don’t title the video “Rock like AC/DC” and then just shred. Keep up the good work!
Just a couple of notes. Thomann is just one giant megastore in Germany, it's not a chain all over Europe or even Germany. And the Roswell pickups aren't in all their guitars. Their cheaper guitars come with unbranded pickups. As always a great review Max.
I've had one of these for 2 years. And i just bought the DC 600 VI, which is vintage white and has 3 pups and gold hardware for about $185. Unfortunately shipping is considerably more now so it was a total of $261 shipped. Which is still a pretty darn good price for a quality guitar!
Love reading the comments that are really coming in for you now... people are getting it... welcome to the no BS no unnecessary drama version of the internet. Love the vids MAX. I almost never drool for a 6 string but that one sounds reeeeally good. Thanks for rippin' it for us. Cheers!

I bought the 580 and loved it, played it twice and then decided it was so good for the price I went straight for the DC custom as an upgrade, and gift the 580 to my daughter for Christmas, She loves it every bit as much as I did. Awesome guitars for the money. BTW the upgrade to the DC custom was definitely worth the money. 580 is a great guitar, DC Custom also great.

@Gary Daniel A couple more thought... 1) some pretty notable players always say or leaned on a stool (but that doesn't sound like your style) 2) by two cheap fabric straps and have a competent seamstress or shoe repair shop stitch them together where they run across your shoulder. The stitched together portion need only be long enough to disperse the weight on your shoulder. A good seamstress may have better suggestions/designs, like a pad, etc.

I just happened to be the student in-house apprentice electrician for our school hall at the time... Miami, on the Gold Coast (not Florida)... stroke of luck or what??? This was an act of pure genius on the part of their management... to get them playing to tens of thousands of us young kids (at the time) right across Australia. They won us over for life, with their raw pub rock'n'roll!! And yes Angus was caning his SG in front of a stack of Marshall amps that made him look like an ant! I used to own one myself... a genuine Gibson, in walnut brown, with no white binding around the neck. Quite rare, I understand. Wish I still had it. Great review on the HB.
I own an LTD Viper 256, it's quite good but I can't help feeling that, aside from the humbuckers (which are not that great), this HB DC Custom is basically the same guitar from the same factory, just with slightly different electronics and pots. For more than double the price, though. Great review, I'm gonna try a HB guitar soon!

You guys are so lucky with our cheap shipping options. Getting a guitar shipped the other way around from the US to Germany is gonna run you around $100.
I know this is older and people probably put the two together, but this guitar actually reminds me more of an ESP/LTD Viper (which is a take on the SG but still). With the small pickguard, it's definitely reminiscent of those Viper-256's in the classic red with black pickguard.
I own the DC Custom and 7 other Harleys and love them all! The DC Custom is plays every bit as good as the SG Standard I bought my son. Yes, they will ship up to 3 guitars in one shipment. I've only had one shipping problem and it was their acoustic electric that is modeled after a Martin D-42 I believe. I had some finish cheking at the bottom edge of the front, barely visible and they issued a $75 credit that I applied to the SC-1000. Execellent company aand outstanding service.
I have two Harley Benton's. A Fusion ll, which is incredible and an ST70 paisley Strat style. The quality and playability is great and I use them in gigging situations all the time. I bought a used Epiphone 400 off a local market place website for under $100.00 and with a bit of clean up, it's a marvelous player but because I have it, I won't duplicate by getting the Harley. Still, I haven't met a Harley Benton I didn't like. Great value guitars.
Well you're obviously a non-American who obviously doesn't get the H.d thing harley Davidson so as a real American that gives a fu#@ tou ain't fit to bash harley and praise the other one yes you're opinion is you're own so keep that shit there or grow a testical and say that shit around me or some one like me .
Im getting a student series because i think theyre adorable and looking around they seem to be able to do exactly what i would like to do and im SO EXCITED
Bought another Harley Benton for my girlfriend. Harley Benton PB-50 FR Vintage Serie to be specific. That thing looks stunning. It was also really well constructed.
Looks like an even more budget-friendly version of the LTD Viper-256 I made up my mind and ordered one of the B-Stock ones over an Oscar Schmidt OS-50, can't wait to get it
It's my belief that well made quality musical instruments encourage young aspiring musicians a way to pursue their dreams, and thankfully your reviews show said young people options in choosing a guitar, keep up the good work and by the way your playing is not too shabby, GOD BLESS you and yours 🎶✝️🎶. 🖤👽
HB guitars are inexpensive and this one seems to be a gem. This doesn't apply to all HB models as lots have flaws so NOT guitars for a beginner as correcting is expensive. 👍Max for gr8 reviews!
Just got my first Harley Benton LP style. Had GC set it up with new graphite nut new strings an all under 300. An its awesome for a garage band player like me.
Got mine 5-6 months now. It's WAY better than a cheap starter kit from ebay/amazon. It came perfectly set up and intonated. The best thing i ever bought. It's not an 1000€+ guitar and it doesnt feel or play like one, but it doesn't feel and play like a cheap guitar neither.
I have an Epiphone SG Special and an Epiphone Les Paul Special II. I've been playing guitar for 40+ years and these 2 are among the greatest sounding and playing guitars I've ever owned. I've owned actual Gibsons as well and I like the Epiphone Specials better because I don't have to worry about them so much. And the sound is VERY comparable! So, while I know you were referring to the $400 Epi SG, I can agree with you vs a Harley Benton. But, for value, my money's with Epiphone's Specials.
I have been on Harley Benton's site at least 3 times a week. Just need to pick one and order!!! So many great, affordable guitars out there now. Big jump from my first. A killer, ass kicking Encore!!! Haha
Another great vid. You're more of a guitar nut than I am and I'm pretty bad. I bought one of these Harley Benton guitars (black Tele with 2 hum) that you reviewed in another video and I am blown away. Definitely one of the best value for the money out there and as good as many guitars costing $700.00 or more. Many of these need fret work....my Harley Benton had 5 high frets and the frets were not crowned or dressed. The action out of the box was high...probably to compensate for fret buzz. I broke out my StewMac files and did a complete fret job and this thing is amazing. The Roswell pups aren't half bad either....I'm leaving them in .
I think it’s more closely related to an LTD Viper than an SG, the shape, control layout and whatnot is much more similar to that of the Viper. Love the reviews, keep them coming.
@@GuitarMAXMusic I can safely say I'm loving the DC-600 VI. I also got a Harley Benton S-620 and a ST-62 Vintage. All 3 guitars -- blown away!! I almost feel guilty like I got away with a steal.
Awesome videos. I'm a drummer(40+yrs playing) and have always wanted to learn guitar. Your videos have been a HUGE help, thank you. I was curious to see what you think of the Harley Benton S-620 TR? I loved your review of the TE-40 TBK Deluxe, l think I'm gonna get it, but also considering something with a tremolo. Not a Strat because of de-tuning issues.
S-620 was my first electric guitar. What I can say it's a good guitar for the money but I had a lot of issues with the Floyd Rose. It's not good quality and one simple dive on the floyd detunes the whole guitar. I read that other people don't have this issue. It's bassy on the tone and it's my loudest guitar. Even though it's a good guitar for the money. If you starting out I would advise to get a non FR guitar, but that's up to you. hope it helped.
G Max, I have a G400 and love it but am always on the lookout for another SG style guitar at a price I can afford. I'm not a a heavy metal guy but I like hard rock. I'm thinking that maybe I'm gonna give one of these a shot. Thanks for your great demo.
Very good sounding for it's price tag,and it looks really nice and like the wood grain being noticable as you mentioned. Looks and sounds great for a budget clone.
Thank you for the reply! It is useful to see that these instruments are usable stock as they are.. ! ps: this is actually kind of a replica of ESP's take on the original SG design -aka Viper (hence 24 frets/controls/more prominent offset horns)..HB did the same with the LP variant, using ESP Eclipse as a blueprint...and possibly with some other models... not sure... thanks for the rev!
Good review on a cool guitar. And, as always, amazing playing. What concerns me: for me all (!) guitars sound the same through your rig. Less gain would maybe reveal more sound details. Some clean and low gain overdrive would be great!
The shipping fee is the same for three guitars. Some friends of mine ordered three Harley Bentons and paid one fee for all three. They arrived in mint condition and played well right out of the box.
It's actually listed for $228, not including shipping. Looks good though. And the body contours more like a Gibson by being thinner on the top(low E string) side where you would want the body thin, unlike Epiphone who keep it kinda chunky and barely beveled. Much more comfortable.
Very cool, but I recently got a Epiphone Goth SG,the original one with the mahogany body and neck with ebony fretboard. I love it. I'd get this HB if I didn't have one as I love the SG.
Nice video. I hope you can also take a look at the 3 Humbucker version, the Harley Benton DC-600. Its a very nice replica of the SG 400 Custom. The SC-500 BK is also worth looking at as an alternative to the Les Paul Custom.
I saw Robby Kriege on a interview and he said " I was on an acid trip the first time I saw a SG and it reminded me of the devil " that's the most metal thing I've hear.
Hi, did yuo bougth it since the states? ¿what about the taxes? I don´t wanna have a surprise, like the taxes are expensive more than the guitar. thank you.
Sounds awesome, especially for a sub $200 fiddle! I've been thinking about getting a Harley or 2, and this vid confirmed it. I need to buy a 60 gal compressor for my shop before I do, but I'm strongly thinking about getting some gibson style guitars from Germany. I live on budget guitars as I've an '03 Korean RG370, a '91? Affinity Squire Strat, an '03 Washburn D10SCE and a '69 Fender Newporter Acoustic (love that old thang). I like to modify electrics so the Ibanez & Squire are always under development...
OMG, Max. that thing is a monster! Bought a HB35s based on your review. 1 happy bunny. Massive Angus fan, myself. Think I need a DC Custom too. Really like your work, man. Keep it up. P.S' My sister got me a SPARK aMP and Bias FX2 for Crimble. Happy days!! Respectfully yours Tim from Liverpool
LOVE your reviews man, always click and watch as soon as I can. I have two HB's which I agree are great for the money. I know you mainly use your Blackstar IDcore amp for reviews which is great for showing what's possible on a budget but I would love to see your guitars played through both a budget amp and maybe something with tubes, and varying levels of overdrive. I can imagine that would be quite a bit more effort on your part though!
I always dig your tutorial on these guitars I’m probably gonna buy a couple I’m left-handed I thought that firefly off of Amazon for $139 you can’t beat that i’ve also had les paul standard traditional of course they’re not like that but for the money who cares
I bought the white one with the gold hardware , only thing wrong was one of the pups was put on crooked. Love the frets no sharp edges somewhat rounded over. I was puzzled when looking at the packaged on on the back of the headstock it said made in Vietnam and when I received mine it is made in China but no problem I see most don't even sat where they made and I love it anyway. I also bought a few Indio guitars and they are nice also ty for the reviews I enjoy them.
Very nice guitars, the HB sound very good, I got a SGT400 GOLD and it's a big choice for the price, not only a Like Gibson LP but it has its why, cheap but with quality.

I have 3 or 4 Harley Benton guitars. They are very good for little money 🎸
How is India....
You guys are so lucky with our cheap shipping options. Getting a guitar shipped the other way around from the US to Germany is gonna run you around $100.
I bought HB now can't wait for it to reach front door and if it's really all that then I'm allready looking at 3 more models
Without a doubt. I learned something new every time I watch his videos
Harley Benton are great guitars for little money. Harley Davidson are junk motorcycles for alot of money.
Being an ex-biker and a musician, i fully agree with you sir: HB not HD!!
Amen
Well you're obviously a non-American who obviously doesn't get the H.d thing harley Davidson so as a real American that gives a fu#@ tou ain't fit to bash harley and praise the other one yes you're opinion is you're own so keep that shit there or grow a testical and say that shit around me or some one like me .
You mean Indians are junk motorcycles for a lot of money
Haha modern HDs aren't JUNK, but they absolutely are 30-50% more expensive than they should be!
‘Roswell humbuckers’, sounds alien to me 😬
Im getting a student series because i think theyre adorable and looking around they seem to be able to do exactly what i would like to do and im SO EXCITED
Bought another Harley Benton for my girlfriend. Harley Benton PB-50 FR Vintage Serie to be specific. That thing looks stunning. It was also really well constructed.
Looks like an even more budget-friendly version of the LTD Viper-256
I made up my mind and ordered one of the B-Stock ones over an Oscar Schmidt OS-50, can't wait to get it
It's my belief that well made quality musical instruments encourage young aspiring musicians a way to pursue their dreams, and thankfully your reviews show said young people options in choosing a guitar, keep up the good work and by the way your playing is not too shabby, GOD BLESS you and yours 🎶✝️🎶. 🖤👽
Thanks man this helped me as jumping out of intermediate range into deeper waters ...I'm in the rabbit hole now man lol...happy 2022
I really like the one volume and one time knob arrangement. On my Gibson Led Pauls and SGs , I wish they were simplified. Great video🎸
I also love when the wood shows through the paint job. I'm not a super SG type fan but that guitar is freaking gorgeous and it sounds great.
Max u are my savior, had to get rid of my area and have been looking for a great cheap replacement. U got me for life man thank u so much
Glad I could help!
Looks like a great budget guitar that plays well and doesn't look cheap. Thanks for the video. Looking forward to the next one.
Very cool! I actually prefer the single volume and tone setup over the original four knob design.
I learn so much when I watch your vids. Plus, you are very talented. Well done and continued success.
Haha
Great to hear rock-style riffs on guitar demos rather than your standard blues licks.
Not everyone plays blues! Great review.
Love the reviews, keep them coming.
esthetically, yes. but the sound is as classic as it gets, with its vintage voiced pups.
Guitar Max you have been quite the salesman to me! LOVE your bids you are amazing in every way.
What a great price for such a nice guitar. Best time since I've been alive in my almost 58 uears to buy a guitar.
Just ordered the DC-600 VI Vintage Series...probably will reconfigure the 3-way switch on it, but I'm stoked to get it.
Let us know how you like it!
@@GuitarMAXMusic I can safely say I'm loving the DC-600 VI. I also got a Harley Benton S-620 and a ST-62 Vintage. All 3 guitars -- blown away!! I almost feel guilty like I got away with a steal.
I own this very guitar and they are really good. I did replace the pickups with Dragonfire H-90 pickups and all I can say is wow!
Been watching for about a year and just realized I wasn't subscribed. Not even a metal head but love your show and humor
Haven't tried any Harley Benton guitars, but so far it looks and sounds pretty good.
I like this shake and headstock more. Thank you Thomann.
G Max, I have a G400 and love it but am always on the lookout for another SG style guitar at a price I can afford. I'm not a a heavy metal guy but I like hard rock. I'm thinking that maybe I'm gonna give one of these a shot. Thanks for your great demo.
I was going to buy one yesterday, now I'm was going to buy one even more now! Thanks great review mate
Another great find & video from Max. I love it when he reviews stuff that we can actually afford.
bought one...your review is good enough for me....will let you know how I like it.
me too
@@coltsvideo I like it!!! put .008's on it....came with .010's. Set up was close......adjusted truss a tad and dropped the bridge.....plays great!
Very good sounding for it's price tag,and it looks really nice and like the wood grain being noticable as you mentioned. Looks and sounds great for a budget clone.
Man, those clean tones blew me away. 🎶🎶🎶
Gran video el tuyo...gracias por mostrarnosla...se ve buena guitarra y mas por ese precio....mil gracias por tu tiempo!!!
Thank you for showing me Harley Benton great guitars for a even better price
I love my Harley Benton 7 string!! I’m definitely going to be getting a couple more!! For the price you honestly can’t go wrong!!!
Well, I think the Epiphone Is better, so don't be sad
@@jacopomarazzato841 I think it's better as well. I love this guitar dearly.
I truly love the sound of the LAF Alnico. Dark and Warm, and as you said, you can play everything with them. Nice demo once again, thanks Max :)
Thanks dude, I haven't found another good video of the DC custom. Very nice👌
I love this guitar been using it for 2 months and its great
Hi, did yuo bougth it since the states? ¿what about the taxes? I don´t wanna have a surprise, like the taxes are expensive more than the guitar. thank you.
I would love this model in black
Speaking of rosewood fretboards, I absolutely love and prefer both grenadilla and black walnut.
I have a Harley Benton and I love it. You are so wright to say a Hell of a guitar for a nice Price greetings from Belguim
I just ordered a dc 600 today, I wish you could make a review of one of those with three humbuckers, it would be awesome
Alzapuas100 check out agufish..he reviews one ..great Chanel
Thanks, I’ve seen it, and pretty good indeed, however, it would be awesome if our host Max himself could honor a review of it as well
OMG, Max. that thing is a monster!
Respectfully yours
Tim from Liverpool
You found my next guitar, thanks Max
Can you tell if your model is neck heavy?
Why don't Harley Benton make the 6 string neck of the Double Neck 612 also a 24 Fret? 🤔
Very nice guitars, the HB sound very good, I got a SGT400 GOLD and it's a big choice for the price, not only a Like Gibson LP but it has its why, cheap but with quality.
