- “Excommunication” is one of the most highly-charged and feared words connected with the Catholic faith. It is also one of the most misunderstood. Many people incorrectly believe that a person who has been excommunicated has been “kicked out” of the Catholic Church. They may also think that this is a permanent and irreversible punishment. The penalty may be viewed as harsh, lacking in charity, even un-Christian.

An individuals “Hardening of the heart” against conversion is what the Catholic Church wishes to accomplish. We’ll see. 😌
This sounds exactly the same as the practice of disfellowship policy by The Watchtower Society.

Dear Bishop Paprocki, this was a very clearly presented video on this sensitive issue, thank you. I am a Jehovah’s Witness convert from U.K. my father in law is of your faith from Ireland. My question is because as a JW we have policies concerning excommunication/disfellowship that differ between my religion and yours. Our policy regarding continuing attending church meetings is that our members at instructed to ‘Shun’ fellow members until they are reinstated into the religion. They are permitted to attend church as are Catholics. I feel our policy is overly cruel to family members can you clarify the specific behaviour of the church members to an excommunicated individual. The third time was for traveling and studying abroad and wanting to immigrate.
What if a priest is excommunicated be he doesn't believe Francis is a " legal Pope"; even Francis states he was duped and said something to the effect that he was NOT the Vicar of Christ. What did that mean. So how does this priest get reinstated if he truly does not believe Francis is the Pope.
I was expelled from two churches for failing to marry and procreate.
