- It's an age-old question, and there's no perfect answer. While the Church does not teach "dog-matically" that our beloved animals will or will not be in Heaven, some think they will be, as the Scriptures describe animals at peace in the new creation. Join Fr. Chris Alar, MIC, as he shares both sides of the topic and gives thanks to God for the gift of our animal companions. Then be inspired by Canines for Christ, a healing ministry which connects therapy dogs with the infirm and homebound, with amazing results.
Watch Fr. Chris Alar, MIC, and the Marian Fathers and Brothers from the National Shrine of Divine Mercy on our new show Living Divine Mercy airing every Wednesday at 6:30pm EST on EWTN. Through teaching segments, Bible and St. Faustina Diary excerpts, as well as real-life examples of people who are living Divine Mercy in their lives, you will learn why Jesus said Divine Mercy is mankind's last hope of salvation! Episode 103: Do Pets Go To Heaven?

Fr. I do believe pets go to heaven. Their love is so intense and God is love. I can't imagine that He just discards them.
Well I still might carry a large gun in bear country, but otherwise I agree with you. Of course I may have misunderstood the intentions of the bear, but as said here God will do as He knows is right.
@annpliska7099 I believe they do! I’ve had more LOVE shown to me by my pets, then some family members! God can’t discount that.
Animals have no souls. That’s why they don’t go to heaven.
I have always heard that God will give us whatever we need to be happy in heaven. I know that my cremated pets will be buried with me. 🙏🙏
@@lanyalqurum2743Of course they have souls. Souls animate the body.
A little doggie who came to me unexpectedly and also through a high kill shelter, shortly after my beloved mother died saved me. We both needed each other and gave life to one another. I believe in a God who will reunite all.
Amen 🙏
I know we will be reunited with our beloved friends 🐶🐱🐴
I believe
Jesus, I Trust in You,
I lost my parents before I was 25. No brothers and sisters. My three dogs brought me closer to God and the Catholic Church. They made me a better Christian. They brought me to my knees when they got ill.
It is almost hard to think that a good God that loves us so much, that has given us all such a beautiful gift in creation and in our pets would not want us all together in eternity. Animals love is so unconditional, a pure example of God's love for us.
Yes it is! We can learn a lot from the unconditional love dogs give us.
Jesus rode on a donkey....Jasper.💞
Yes, after adopting a house full of rescue pets including special needs, I know they have taught me so much. I definitely have made many sacrifices because their care comes first. In other words, I (we) are less selfish.
I find it hard to believe that God would simply let their souls disintegrate instantly upon death. He created them. Why would he throw souls away? I don't believe that he would. 🐶 💕
Shortly after my mother passed away, I had a dream where I saw my mom in a house where my cat that passed away a few months prior was there too. Perhaps God gave me a very faint glimpse that my mom is there taking care of my cat. I believe our pets are up there.
That’s beautiful. I am putting my cat down this afternoon- only 6 years old with cancer. I believe she will be up there bc God created animals and said they were good, and they don’t sin
O my God, Thy will be done!! I trust in You!🙏🙏🙏
🦮🐕🐶🌻🌹🏵
Love is eternal and is the very essence of God. Therefore the love that our pets have for us is also eternal.
That was fascinating. The canines for Christ, and the story of st.francis, and the wolf, beautiful. 👌☝️
Heaven is sooooooooooooooooooooo big, as God's love and Mercy, so i think He can accommodate them
Thank you, Father Chris ❤ My dog recently passed. It was a Sunday, and no veterinarian was available. My sweet girl was struggling. My heart was breaking. I looked up to my crucifix over my doorway and asked Jesus to please take her to stop her suffering. And just as I asked Him, she rolled to her side and passed.
Yes, Jesus took her for me. 🙏 ❤
Yes. God cares even about the most insignificant things in our lives that to us, sinners, that we place as a priority.
I hope you pray as much for the people suffering from the fire in Maui, or those babies murdered through abortion! 😢😢
@@petramiranda5095Wow, may be true, but that was a pretty snotty response to someone who grieves, nonetheless.
I have Bipolar disorder and suffer with crippling depression. The 3 cats that i had over the years were my emotional support pets. They rarely left my side. If i had to go out i would hear my last cat Daisy cry. And hearing her broke my heart. Si i started to tell her that i was going to the store and that id be back as soon as i could. Then shed go to her bed and sleep until i got home. My middle cat Beauty would wait at the top of the stairs until i got back. And my first just slept on me. ❤❤❤ i miss them so much❣️
Prayers for you as you negotiate bipolar disorder indeed it is a crippling condition. May God bless you and give you serenity.
@@alwaysmisskaryn Thank you so much!🌺
@@AlwaysherethereMy kitties are angels. Nothing less 🐱
They deserve to be in heaven far more than I do,and I absolutely trust that we will be reunited there one day.
Thank you Father Chris for this information, but I do believe they will go to Heaven. They are so protective, loyal, and very loving towards their Human Parents. I love my dogs and I know they love me right back, they show it everyday.....
thank you Fr Chris.
Thanks for listening
The book of Tobit, throughout their journey.... the Archangel Raphael....& there was a DOG with them! I like to think that just as St Raphael came down from Heaven, sent by God...the dog too came along with St Raphael!
That’s right! Thank you for reminding us of that passage.
How can God create something as beautiful as our beloved pets… then discard them?
When my dog of 15 years was passing my other dogs were devastated 😢. When he died we buried him at our backyard one of my other dog used to go sit on top of the grave barked and played just like his pal was alive. I think it was his spirit going . I always took and take my pets to the blessed of the animals. They all ware the Saint Francis of Assisi Mendelian. ❤❤.
My beloved little dog of almost 18 years passed just 3 weeks ago and I am so heartbroken. I am of the belief that his spirit is around me. I love your story that your other dog sat on top of the grave and you believe his spirit is there. That is so comforting. I love that.

I personally hope the animals will be in heaven 🐶🐱❤️
Thank you Fr. Chris for this special show. I love all the animals I've had and cried over every loss. They are especially important as my kids have grown, my husband works and I am home aline only with them . I am also disabled and I'll quite ill frequently. They give me purpose and they love me no matter what I look like or how bad my hair is that day. They don't care, they just love me!❤ Thank you Lord for the gift of these amazing animals.❤
Please can everyone please pray that the effect of Grace of the flame of love of our immaculate heart ❤of Mary be spread all over humanity 🙏💕🙏,so it may blind Satan 🙏roseary beads our steps to our lady 🙏💞🙏
God loves his creations it would make since if he brought him to heaven
I firmly believe in God's goodness and love for us! He knows are love for his precious beings God created. 💞💗💞
I recently had to put my dog to sleep and this video brought me much comfort. Thank you Fr. Chris, the Marian Fathers and Canines 4 Christ for sharing your stories ❤😭🥹
Putting your pet to sleep must be so difficult. I am glad this show brought you comfort and peace. God bless you! 🙏
So glad you had such a loving pet in your life. So sorry for your loss. I do love my dog. she is 14.
I think our beloved pets, fur babies, go to heaven. They love their owners unconditionally.
..and they're pure of heart, like little children and babies.
No...those things are beasts not even close to being like human babies. I hate it that phrase fur babies. How RIDICULOUS!! 🤮
@@petramiranda5095 WOW you say... those things?? Your words come across as uncharitable & having disdain for both pets & pet owners which you mock because of a term of affection you hate. Please reflect on how hurtful your comment comes across especially if someone has recently lost a beloved pet?
These magnificent creatures do give glory to God & soften many a hardened heart. Help a lonely person etc.& are very loving & are gifts from God. Why even say they are not close to human babies, nobody in comments section suggested they were? There was no need to compare & point out just because people really hope to be reunited with their beloved pets in heaven. It is very painful & hard to watch a beloved pet die & I hope to see mine again to.
I am sure all of my beloved pets will be there in heaven. Cats, birds and dogs. God will provide. ❤❤❤❤❤
Father Chris thank you for doing this for us we all love you so much 🙏🏻.
Yes we do love Father Chris. ❤️🤍❤️
He’s one of a kind and is indeed loved by many. ❤
My son bled to death in a hurricane.alone one of his talks on UA-cam gave me so much comfort and not despair.
@@lindaobrien8538 oh my goodness, Linda, I am so sorry to read this. How tragic for your son and how painful for you. I am glad that you are able to find comfort in one of Father Chris’s many talks. I do not know which one you listened to, so may I suggest the talk on “God’s Mercy After Tragedy”. if you have not heard that one already. Again, I am so so sorry for your loss and grief and pain. Thanks for reaching out to your Marian family. We are always here for you and praying for you and your son’s soul. ❤️🤍❤️🙏🏻

I been told God angels are with they love one's at they owners Grave site. It not a joke. Amen. I heard true stories of a owner that sick. A dog find his owner in the hospital and went to his owner room and stay with his owner til his owner pass away. 🙏❤🙏

The dogs outside the city walls are perverted people I think I believe our pets will be with us in the house that our lord built for each one of us. Saint Francis of Assisi pray for us
Even St Francis Assisi called them beautiful names.
Fr. Chris, thank you for this episode, Do Pets Go To Heaven? I highly appreciate everyone’s love for pets specially the dog. How I wish I could reciprocate the kindness and joy the dog has for the person’s he makes happy with. Honestly, I’m still working on my childhood trauma about dogs. I was 10 years when I was bitten by a street dog. I was injected 25 times for fear of getting the rabies. My friends advice me not to show my fear when I encounter a dog because he senses it. I’m doing my best but to touch him, I’m still so afraid. I love pets and hopefully the dogs, too. St. Francis of Assisi, please pray for me that I may overcome my fear and learn to love what God has created.
God bless and prayers for you Fr. Chris, your team and everyone who contributed to make this good presentation.
I have a tendency to lean to C. S. Lewis & Peter Kreeft. We know animals have sentient souls. It’s said all sentient souls return to their creator. If we are to gain the eternal reward, as Christ said. My fathers mansion has many rooms. It’s up to God whether he would reward us with the company of our best friends & pets. If they brought joy & solace to us here on earth, brought out the best in us, why wouldn’t God reward us with what brought us joy on earth in heaven. It’s his gift after all.
Jesus prayed at Gethsemane for unity with all God Father has given to him. He himself told his disciples to stay in his love, stay at the vine for eternal life.
When I had to decide on the euthanisation of my old cats and was desparate over weeks, if this was the right thing to do, I went to St. Francis chapel for advice and strengthening. Opening the bible, above gospel was shown, and in the old testament" I called you with your name, and you are mine ".
It became clear to me that all we love keep connected to us. We inherit Heaven as long as we stay in Jesus' love. So will our pets, as long as we love them. Animals are innocent, this alone makes them candidates for paradise.
I sure hope I get to see my dog Ricky again. He was a rescue but he really rescued me at a very difficult time in life. Heaven sent you might say !!
One of the priests I know said if I needed my dog in order to be happy in heaven, then my dog would be in heaven.
❤
Yes, animals are a great blessing. They have helped me throughout my whole life. and I miss all of them in the past two years I have lost both of my pets one was a service dog that lost its owner and I took him in and changed my life. I used to talk to him about some of the things that hurt my heart people that I missed always grieving for as well as some of my grievous sins. through that experience and others in the past three or four years, I was able to go back to the church. I started thinking about that then I would take my dog outside and I would say my prayers as I was walking my dog.. he was a really good dog who is dedicated to me even upped his last day. Thank you God for sending me my sweet Dakota. now I am sick. I’ve always had sickness but now I have cancer so they’re hoping that I would be able to get another dog to help me through .
God was kind enough to put the animals on a Noah’s Ark, so I do believe the animals will be in Heaven.
I like your logic! 😉👍
My dogs are in heaven now....is still my prayer.
I cannot thank you enough for doing this particular installment, Father. I both laughed and cried as i watched it. My firm belief is that it is through my love of animals that I am brought to the very foot of Christ. Thank you so much for reminding me of this. 🙏📿🙏📿
Me too I always feel that the unconditional love of our pets give us a taste of God’s unconditional love for us ! God bless!
Thank you for watching and God bless you
Somehow my dogs always came to me when i most needed them i thought i rescued them they rescued me.i feel they are Gods gifts to me i pray they will be with me and all my loved ones in heaven.
In Tobit , chapter 6, it says the the dog followed and went along. Yeah ! Yes !
Father Chris thank you for this show. I loved it. I do think our pets will be in heaven with us but not because we need them but because God made them. And Canines for Christ is a wonderful ministry. God Bless them all. And you too Father Chris. Always praying for you and all the Marian Congregation.
Well said
Fr- I too believe my beloved animals will be with me. Thank you for everything you do for us! 🙏🙏🙏
It gives me comfort that God so loved his creatures that they were tbe first to get to gather around and adore him in the manger after he was born .❤ Jesus also replaced sacrificial animals. Our father in heaven created the animals first according to Genesis in the bible and saw that it was good then he created Adam and so on.😢
Excellent point! If created animals are good, and only good things are in heaven, then it follows that animals are in heaven. It's logical.
phenomenal ministry and demonstration of Gods gift of animals to us
thank you Father
Canines for Christ is indeed a phenomenal ministry! 🐶
How could it be heaven without our fur babies.
Remember God is the creator of Heaven and Earth. God pet angels are very true. Don't let someone tell you no. Amen. 🙏🥰🙏
Dogs are so faithful. Even cats
I started laughing with the clip with camera man Giuseppe and his chihuahua 😅. My dads name is Giuseppe too! Great video
Cameraman Giuseppe often adds humor to these shows - God bless him!
🙏🦮🐈🐈I too think loving pets go to heaven. God created the animals and told Adam to name them. How does man know that animals don't have rational souls. My pets do think, and are rational, in my opinion. I agree with C.S. Lewis.💗💗💕✝️✝️🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Fr.Chris Alar!🙏❤️
Thanks for listening
Thank you ❤
He makes all things new. I believe it.
Yes I strongly believe all of God's creations go to heaven God is merciful. Animals have not sinned against God and are innocent now the question is will we go to heaven. God have mercy on us all for we are sinners.
❤❤ this video! Thank you Fr! I look forward towards seeing my pets in Heaven! God's amazing & He loves animals too, hence He created them before "humans!"
Beautiful episode. Thank you Fr. Chris and team.
Animals clearly understand Love therefore by definition they know God.
Any creature which knows God must logically possess a soul, and so must logically be in Heaven
Check out the movie, Heaven is for Real. The little boy, Colton, who died, went to heaven and came back and said that he saw many animals in heaven. He even mentioned that the animals played all day and were happy.
They have to. Especially the ones who have abusive lives.
@@sharonstout7802 You know I was just thinking the same thing. If anyone deserves heaven, they do!
I always tell my kids we don't know for sure. But, nothing is impossible for God, so He can re-animate them if He wants. We can certainly ask Him if we make it there!
I think it's a good way to be truthful, yet maintain a hope that it might (and hopefully will) be.
I think that’s a great honest yet hopefully answer to your children.
Yes
Yes.
To be united to the Holy Spirit is to be united to all His creation. I also believe the Father uses pets to give the love and comfort to His wayward hurting ones that they aren’t accepting directly
I have no doubt that our beloved pets live on, and that we will all be reunited again. My little Ivy, my gift from heaven after my beloved mother passed, and my Maggie, my two little furry dog daughters, are both aging now. The faith that our pets do go to heaven brings me comfort in knowing that when it's time, that pain will be buffered by that hope.
My chawinna, sparky prays with us every day mass and at300pm divine Mercy he sits up and knows the name Jesus ❤❤❤😊
I am grateful to God and my mom for teaching me a love of animals and for most of my life, helping me to have dogs and cats in my life in someway. I also hope that possibly my mom will be blessed for all the hard work she did with me when I was young and for teaching me that compassion. although me and my mom had a lot of difficulties, I’m hoping that God has mercy, so I always try to pray for her soul and the souls of those who have passed away.
As God is infinite, animals can easily be in heaven.
I tend to think they do because the Bible says God knows every bird that falls. So maybe they do? We shall see when we get there. Salve Maria 🙏
Oh they should 🙏
I was had a friend take pictures and one time my friend take a picture of someone and there was a cat in tge pucture at the bottom of the person feet. The cat pass away a few years ago. Show that pet owners they God pet angels some of them are still following they owners watching over them 24/7. 🎉❤🙏

I want to believe they do but I think we are going to have to wait
Thank you, Father ! I have pondered this often... :-)
I was happy to see Canines for Christ be featured! I’ve been following them for awhile on IG. I’ll be considering them when I have my next pet. I believe our pets go to heaven. They teach us so much in their short lives. Dogs are especially amazing at helping people such as service dogs. Everything will be revealed to us when we leave this earth even those things that the Church doesn’t have a teaching on. It’s impossible to know everything.
Well said, thank you God bless you.

There are still countless MYSTERIES to be unlocked in heaven. If pets are in heaven, perhaps it is not revealed to us by any means, form or any Saint or Mystic, in order that the living strive for heaven out of pure love for God --- and not out of the motivation that we get to join our pets. This mystery benefits our soul and increases our merit and reward. Let us then HOPE that in God's boundless love and infinite mercy, our pets are all there in paradise waiting for all of us in the mansions which earthly eyes have not seen .... yet. Let us put then on the armor of God as we strive to win the battle for His glory while here on earth, -- and all things of the greatest consolation will follow in the realm of eternity.
Amen!

So many animals suffer at the hands of man..i always hoped that they would get the love care and justice in heaven that most dont get on earth. Most animals are 100s times better than people. It doesn't seem fair that they go through every thing the horors of this world dishes out and not get tge happiness and peace and love that they where denied here on earth once they are in heaven. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you! I really enjoyed this program.
“Living Divine Mercy” is a great weekly show on EWTN; it teaches us to know our faith so we can love it even more. God bless you, Jacqui! 🙏
I'm grateful. Animal testing is not dominion. An alpha wolf has dominion because he or she loves. We need hope not testing. All people need is prayer and love.
And hope. Thank you. I watch your videos they are the best!

Father Chris Alar thank you for your insight and inspiration in details for the topic:- Do Pets Go To Heaven? - Living Divine Mercy TV Show (EWTN) Ep.103
Fr. Chris. you are awesome (a blessing). thanks
God bless you Fr. Chris.
My dogs came from heaven, so I would think they go back there when their time on earth is over.
We sure love our pets, don’t we? Fr Chris, your Rocky and Cameraman Giuseppe’s Rocky are both adorable! Remember that D-O-G is G-O-D spelled backwards. 🐶 “Canines for Christ” is an awesome concept. We have used therapy dogs at our local high school to help students deal with stress before final exams and it has been highly successful. My favorite quote of the show? “It is God who is the fulfillment of all our desires, not our pets”. Thank you once again for referencing the Catechism and giving us several points of view to consider. When you get to Heaven, I hope your Rocky is there pining for you inside the pearly gates. ✨😇✨
Yes, i love that dog is God spelled backwards. Can not be a coincidence.
Yes that is true!
Animals cannot have the beatific vision but maybe there is some level of Limbo where their souls can dwell. We just lost our old dog. Hope he is at peace.
🙏❤️☘️🌹
God’s love is greater than we can ever imagine. God created us and all creatures. So perhaps our pets are gifts from God. So why wouldn’t God surround us with loving gifts.
Thank you for sharing this pet video . Pets are good to have as part of the family . I believe pets have a special place to go after they die . Dog heaven . . I've had a few pet dogs . All good pets for me and my family. I I had to give to humane society for adoption and the person at in take wanted it for his own dog. She was a Boxer breed copper collar about two years old a good watch dog and protection of family . She barked at strangers walking by . I received a letter from city neighbors complained about her barking at night time . I'm backyard . As she was a outside dog but inside during the winter. I couldn't afford to pay $500 dollars for fine if she barked again . As it was a warning . So I had to give her to humane society . But at least she already had a new owner I met when I turned her in. So I was happy she already had a new home and a nice man to be her new owner. So yes God protects his animals. Thank you for video.
I always thought in my heart that anything that God created is good and is never wasted and all will be restored or converted into something useful in the end of time. (And 😂 the part showing camera man Giuseppe’s dog was hilarious!😊)
😇
I agree with CS Lewis animals do go to Heaven. Heaven without my cat would be awful.
