There was a show in Australia that really took off but not in the UK apparently called The Goodies which starred Bill Oddie. Really weird thing it was on reruns even in the 2000s.
I once saw a race take place near my school. We were on an excursion and while the people passed everyone was cheering them on and some even threw water on the runners. So that was fun.
