Three books that I read this year that were in my head for weeks after I read them: The Road by Cormac McCarthy, Whalefall by Daniel Kraus, and Saving Noah by Lucinda Berry.
Interesting! I haven't heard of the other two, but I really enjoyed The Road. I can see why that would get stuck in your head. It definitely did for me, too!
I'm glad that you didn't limit to books that came out this year, just the ones you read. Which category did Hitchhikers fall into? Comedy or science fiction? For recommendations, I don't know if you've read them. Death With Interruptions was a great read for me a few years ago. I did Dune this year again. Great again. And if you haven't read The Alchemist, definitely do that. Of course, if I get an audio version of mine out, I'll recommend that for you.
This is a good point about Hitchhikers Guide. I suppose I would have to give that the reward for the funniest book, but for the award's sake, I lean towards books that I've discovered this year. Otherwise, when I read Hitchhiker's Guide again next year, it would win year after year. Also, that is a tricky example for which category that falls under. I suppose it's a nominee in both categories. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to check that one out. And yes, let me know about your book :)
