I don't know of any live steam models that are cheaper than electric. A majority of electric locomotives can be had and converted to r/c and battery for under $500. The only Accucraft engine near that price range is the ruby. (Don't get me wrong, I'd love to get my hands on some Fn3 live steamers).
The possibilities are many and very fluid. Just watch, everything is changing monthly!!
