So that's what it says! How could hear that?! I listened to this like a hundred times and all i heard was something about the world ending and an overfow... this is epic!
I remember when I was about 4 or 5 when I first heard this version on the radio. Then one day at home I asked my dad to put on the song because I thought he might know it. After some searching he put on the REM version instead, and I kept on saying "THIS ISN'T THE RIGHT END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT!!" and he just kept tapping his foot without a care 😂
Having grown up in Newfoundland and listened to GBS my entire life, I was shocked to find out there was another version. When I hear the REM version I keep thinking the same as you did--"this isn't right!!!"
@@terryjstroud Lol It was really disappointing too because I recognized that it was a Newfoundland song and my dad also had a Great Big Sea album - "The Hard and The Easy". I didn't know it was the same band at the time but I knew it was the same kind of music. Little me was so eager to hear Alan Doyle only to hear Michael Stipe out of all things instead! Was right rotted b'y
You are awesome! I use my laptop in class and I blasted this song during class. No one else shared my appreciation for the humour and awesome music :( glad there's people like you out there
@RowaLovesMusic It's a 'stream of conscientiousness' song, where lyrics come from various places like dreams, TV, et cetera. That part regarding birthday parties was about a dream Stripe (Part of R.E.M., the original writers of the song) had about being at Lester Bangs' birthday party. He was the only one there whose initials weren't L.B., and that's where the names before that part (Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce, and Leonard Bernstein) came from.
I dedicate this song to tonight. Due to the Mayan prediction ending tomorrow! haha Best of luck folks. *4 hrs from the mayan ruins where it all began..hotels are booked and Economy here has been boosted! haha thanks mastermind marketers.
Funny thing about 12/21/12, according to the Mayans that date was 7 months ago. We changed calendars twice since their time and messed with the date so much since then.
Singing along: "*gets first line down then....* mehunamdahfriabfhiabiibntiabibtin ITS THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT! AND I FEEL FINE!....." then you lie to yourself "totally got the lyrics right this time."
This is the East Coast Canadian version lol, it doesn't surprise me that they sing so fast. To me this sounded morel like an irish or scottish folk song that was my first impression, i am probably wrong.
It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine! are these guys Canadian? this was the best song to play in 2012 :D Le visiteur de futur... DU FUTUR!!
I will listen to this song as I am running from a collapsing building in a car, driving away with THIS song playing, I would look like a badass to the people running on their feet about to die... I think to much.........
99.9% of the people who try to sing along to this version end up looking like Patrick trying to sing the campfire song song.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I intend to master this, then put it on my resume.
Well, they had to...it's a cover, original is by REM
Except for me.
Is that a bad thing?
This is the kind of song that, if you sing it, if you muck up one word, you muck up the entire song...
The more I hear from these guys, the more I like them.
Good folksy, accoustic cover of the REM song....and they totally nailed it!
omg this is the version i remeber from being a kid. its sounds way better then the other by rem
Can't believe I was first person out of all my friends to share this song on facebook.
I remember as a kid back in the 90s my dad would play this song on the car radio when we went for drives.

Good version! I love how every video with lyrics has slightly different words.

One of their best songs.
Understanding this is the easy part, trying to sing along is when it gets to be a problem.
More folk then "We didn't start fire"
This is my favorite song
i used to be able to sing this at this speed not any more but i'm trying to sing it again
woke up
listened to this song
The only reason someone would put a thumbs down is because they got annoyed trying to recite the lyrics with the singer :P

The doomsday clock says it's two minutes to midnight....and this song is more real than ever.

I couldn't even read the lyrics as fast as he sings it...is he a wizard?

Amen,
I feel fine. And the world hasn't ended yet.
@DonJohnofAustria AGREED, I love REM, but GBS really perfected this song.
When your wandering your jungle in League and the whole enemy pops out of a bush😂
I like the Canadian twist they add to this song.
This song is my theme song for the apocalypse. :D
i see all these comments saying it's impossible to sing this song, i could sing it when i was 5.....no joke, it's not really that hard...
