  • Hello friends of perfect steel bikes! In today's spotlight is OLMO SUPER LIGHT COLUMBUS GENIUS frame from the late 90's which I bought brand new "raw" on Ebay. The beautiful and lightweight (1960g) frame has been waiting for an idea regarding design and color for a few months. I didn't really like the original period paintwork, or truly my painting skills just weren't up to it. So I went with the Vitalicio Seguros stable design and used black metallic instead of red. And here begins the story of the ugly duckling! During the painting process it looked pretty poorly and at times I regretted the black... but there's a happy ending after all! It turned out to be a beautifully painted frame which I completed with a mix of Campagnolo parts. The base is Record 10s combined with more modern cranks - for more stiffness and mainly because of the smaller chainwheels. The Campagnolo skeleton brakes are also from a different set, colour matched to the black/silver setup. I've already tested the bike and it rides beautifully!
Anyone who hasn't subscribed yet so please click SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss anything and let's go enjoy this "NEORETRO" build together... oh and why aren't there shots of the paintwork??!! you just don't want to see that!!!!
A tady začíná příběh o ošklivém káčátku!

I always loved the olmo’s…particularly the earlier versions with the lovely lug sets! I always wished for a Genius frame but never had the chance to race one. This is a great build and that bike is “ menacing “ 😃 Who would not love to own that! Great job.😢

Wonderful bike!! I raced as a Pro in the 90s for OLMO with exactly that Columbus Genius frameset (even though they made custom geometry) and Campagnolo groupset/wheels. Stunning bike, still my favorite after all these years - and compared to carbon and titanium. Congrats to this beauty 🙌🏽 enjoy

Very good job and lovely bike 👍The Genius is a very good tubing which makes light and fast bikes. I consider Genius as a better alternative than titanium or carbon, let's not forget the Dedacciai DR Zero which is also a very good steel. I am more a Shimano Dura Ace 7800 guy, but you have done an outstanding job by repainting it and fitting with nice wheels and nice record 10 speed group.

Great looking steel bike with perfect matching color scheme! Seems like a limited special edition of the Vitalicio Seguros team. Really outstanding paintwork! I would be interested in how did you done this! Is this a 60 frame size, I guess?.

Well that turned out very well, what a gem my friend ……..an absolute classic look ………..I loved the paint scheme. That ITM stem was a new one for me, never seen that clamping variation before, may I ask the model name ?. Also can I ask did you buy the CX 11 power torque cranks as 46 /36 and then swop the big chainring out for a 50T ? If so it makes a nice alternative to Centaur. Love the fact you stuck to 10 speed and used that Record RD, a perfect choice. Put simply what a beautiful overall build….. wishing you loads of fun on it 😁👏👍

Hello my friend, I have already tested and adjusted the bike several times and I can say that it worked very well. It runs beautifully. I bought the crankset exactly as you say. I replaced the 46 with a 50 tooth. Stem is ITM 800 OPEN, I had to use it because of the modern shape of the handlebars. Thank you very much for your support.
