Most regulators work in a very similar way but some use a slightly higher or lower ISP and they may need a little more adjusting when you put them together. When it's time for a service, if it's the same brand then the service centre can service all of the parts but if they don't carry the 2nd brand it gets tricky.

The comment about mixing 1st and 2nd stage brands is typically nonsense. Mares 1st and primary, with US Divers octo for 30 years. No problems.
