Should You Tune Your S2000? YES!!! **Racing Sti off the line!**

- Really no point to this video, just a quick ramble about my process getting the car tuned while on my way home from school. Many people overlook what a simple tune on AEM or Flashpro can do for these cars and the midrange gains are tremendous!

As a ap2 s2000 owner, I appreciate this type of informative videos. Most other s2000 content is super edited, people ruining s2000 by stancing them out, or people who modify their s2k off camera and not really explaining their mod process. Hope u continue to provide raw material like this. Keep it up.
Thanks man! I plan to do weekly uploads
The stance shit is out of control. Glad someone else feels the same
Ah yes the typical s2ki elitist that insists to keep their cars completely fucking stock otherwise its "ruined"
@@artoriasoftheabyss1575 he didn't say that you idiot he said that stance ruins these cars because they handle so good.
@@alexanderserrao7098 facts like did they read the title. Literally says to tune the car aka not leave it stock....
I have a Stage 2 04 STI with intake, downpipe, and cat back exhaust with the Cobb accessport I'm putting 302whp and 313 wtq. I still love VTEC engines tho I have nothing but respect for them. I had a K24/K20 RSX Type S I was putting 217whp. I still think Vtec engine are more fun to drive only because they feel like Go Karts on the Road.
Race @ 3:40
nice vid
God bless
damn....uhm...im impressed s2k is not really fast anymore but it did good
@@AdonisGaming93 subi had a better launch cause its awd
@@kevinsalazar4898 i mean to me it looked like neither car was going for it at launch and then like 5mph they both said ight let's go. But also let's be real. I love my s2000 but a wrx will probably win 0-60 no problem and after 60mph you're going to either crash or get a reckless driving ticket anyway so who cares who is faster after that, as long as you like the car and it makes you feel good driving it who cares if someone else is slightly faster at getting tickets.
I have an 06+ s2k also. I began my power mods with a Mugen intake+hfc, untuned. I then added a Hondata and fooled around with the preloadedt maps. I tried both the tuned map and Mugen maps. I didn't experiment with the Toda map because I wasn't using a test pipe. There was a noticable difference for me when switching between the factory, tuned and Mugen maps.
I settled on using the Mugen map until I could get my Gernby tune completed. I felt like the Mugen map would have the safest parameters. It was designed for their intake, exhaust and the factory catalytic converter. I felt that was most similar to my setup at thr time.
Later on, I finally finished my tune. It felt great, especially for just having and intake and hfc. I then retuned for an Amuse header, and again for a Tanabe exhaust.
I eventually settled on my current setup: Mugen intake, Amuse header, Rockstar garage hfc and Mugen exhaust. I retuned again for this combo and am very satisfied.
For the $100 it cost - all tunes included - it was very well worth it. I haven't dyno'd my car yet, but the midrange feels great. I wouldn't be surprised if I picked up 15-20hp. The greatest benefit to the tune was the lowered vtec engagement (~4k rpm). I can just lay into the throttle in 6th gear and overtake on the freeway now.
nice Ive heard great things about Gernby's tuning thru the s2ki forums. Im contemplating adding a header now but trying to decide which ones so ill see some good gains.
For $100? Really?
iMickel AP2 headers will only drop weight and not add any significant power. I say go for the best deal on any jdm header. The best jdm header would be an ASM or Toda.
Gooney yup. It's an etune, so he just sends over a bunch of calibrations for you to data log, then he tailors it for your setup. As long as it's an N/A bolt-on car.
ayowser01 so the tune was $100? Cause I don't think u can get all those parts for $100 lmao
Damn that thing sounds good! What exhaust are you running?
I just watched Brent from the PFI speed channel custom tune of of these on his channel. Good info there.
dude I totally agree with u, it’s so worth it getting the s2k tuned, before I use to think ehh its a waste of money but then after I tuned it wow!!! The Car like woke up!! It’s way more responsive and quicker ! Definitely is worth tuning the s2000 with of course full bolts on..
yes sir the lower vtec point and more mid range power really helps the car
Love the vid man! Even though I make more power on my Focus ST and ALOT (more that twice the torque) more torque than my old s2k, I still miss it! The car was a blast to drive even when I just had my k&n intake and then when I was full bolt on/tuned.
I have a 2004 s2k stock power with 120k mile. My gearbox is hard to get in gear. I saw you pull the gear shifter so smoothly. What should I do to improve the shifting feeling
crispy downshifts
Cool
Great video! I️ have the same type of POV vlog style I️ do on my channel with my WRX lol
Nice ill check it out!
What camera are you using while you are recording? Would love to buy the camera myself ! Thanks
Its a older model GoPro
I personally like ur drive outs u should make more
what do you mean by drive outs? just driving vids or ones where I talk to?
Sounds 😄😄😀😁😀😄😃
S2k’s look fun. Lightness makes up for lack of power. Yours sounds great too. Loud like my wrx. Both tuned let’s run haha
I’ve beaten one of those subarus but wrx in my stock ap1
I have a question we’re did you buy your car
Is your car full bolts on? Can you have guage install without turbo on your car? I’m kinda noob and still trying to learn.
I have a fg2 and plan on getting bolts on such as Header and intake and get custom tuned from professional. But kinda worries like do i always have to check my A/F ratio? Like how? Can I install a A/F ratio guage like your ? How do I check my A/F ratio? Thanks!
its not full bolt ons still has stock header and stock mid pipe. just catback and intake. You can install a AF gauge on any car regardless of mods but its forsure useful for tuning to get a cleaner tune and making sure the car is still running right in the future.
iMickel AP2 aye make sense. Thx!
What exhaust are you running/headers? thats the sound I want.
Straight pipe and a fart can
Is this naturally aspirated??? And what other mods do you have?
yeah all motor. Intake and catback exhaust are the only other performance mods
I’ve been an AP2 owner since March of this year. (2018)
Hows it been
So you got 236whp on the dyno, wow!
What else do you haver from mods apart from the 3" straight exhaust?
Ct engineering Intake
test pipe
3" straight pipe but stock header still
Tuned on Flashpro
And don’t get an intake at all. Every single intake with the exception to the mugen ram air system will give you a bit of power bout you lose about 40whp due to heatsoak in about 30min if driving. Best mod you can do to the S before boost is to do the airbox mod. Cut out the divider wall and rip off the air director on the roof of the airbox lid. Throw on a cooling plate and it’s a quick 10hp untuned that doesn’t go away because it won’t get heat soaked
plenty of better intakes than stock
Science of speed has the best intake dyno proven.
I hope you guy are not getting whp and Hp mess up. You made 236hp on you graph, which mean you probably have 205whp give or take. If you have 236whp then your s2k should be making 260-270hp.
Cool vid but I don't know if it's me but is your parking brake up a little?
thanks man and no thankfully it wasn't haha
Im looking to get a S2000 by the end of this year... just wonderin how much have u spent on this car ?
for the car itself or parts after the fact?
It's not a surprise anyone who knows cars know that S2000 2006+ especially with the new "drive by wire" upgrade it beats any Wrx, 350z, and E46 m3 if all STOCK vs STOCK.
WHY THE TITLE SAYS "STI" CLEARLY THAT WAS A WRX... i own an S2000 so I'm not hating.
I street tuned my 2007 s2000 with a flashpro & it feels like a completely different car. I brought vtec down from 5,6000 to 4,000 rpm. Invidia n1 exhaust with 70mm testpipe.
Also did the little throw in k&n air filter with cutting all that unnecessary plastic in the air box.
yup its a great difference... Not crazy gains up top so doesn't sound like much but its that mid range increase that really help the car out.
Put a decent size turbo on it
AP1 owner. completely off topic but the best mod was my 4.77 final drive lol
yeah I've heard 4.77 is awesome but I do so much highway driving Its not practical
Until you go boost it’s okay if you don’t do any long distance interstate driving. But once you’re boosted it would actually benefit us to be a little longer than 4.10 factory ratio.
DO FINAL DRIVE! i wanted to S/C my s2k but i do a lot of canyon run and my friends cars always hitting that scary oil temp peaks. i was afraid of S/C and getting over heat problem. all i did was getting shorter final drive and the car pulls so much harder. its hard to believe it makes so much difference.
Miss my ap2😑
Might want to check yourself. You can use flash pro with ap1's without changing cam and crank wheels. Check out doctronics Channel. They came up with a plug-in play set up. I'm about to order it for mine
thats k tuner not flashpro they made a adapter for I think .. still a cool set up they did to give people some more street car functionality over a Ems
Thought they where 240bhp stock?
That's at the crank, not to the wheel
Yes
What rpm is your vtec set to after being tuned? Thanks!
little under 5k
Subaru aint as aggressive as they seem to be
Subies are overrated and I like them a lot.
@@moustachio334 love me a blob eye
@@MackDolo me too but I prefer the hawkeye the most
Im only 13 but pass that s2k over when you dont want it any more
hahaha ill keep ya in mind
Ha! Im 16 still dont have a car! Gimme de s2k
Work for it instead little man. Nobody gives nobody nothing now a days
I have raced a ford focus st in my s2k. Beat it and I'm stock.
Was that a wrx or fake sti, didnt look like it was pulling any on the s- And he couldnt have launched it
Matthew So maybe the s2k is just as fast or something?
was a Sti sounded stock
A modded tuned s2k will stay next to or pull a stock sti....
Subies are best bang for buck imo. Stock sti kept pace with modded s2k on the roll... Go for ride in my subie and we’ll see if your theory of dying past 4K lol. I don’t hit boost til like 3k lmao
Definitely a sti , my bolt on rsx type s pulls on wrx’s and this s2k is faster than me
how much did u buy your s2k for?
The market varies a lot nowadays based on miles, year, and color. Paid a bit of a premium for this one because it was low miles (28k miles) and a 2008. Ive been seeing clean high mile ap1's go for as low as 10k around me tho and even less for rebuilt title cars
iMickel AP2 oh alright. cool thats what was thinking aswell. thanks for replying :D
Did the gas mileage go down after the tune?
Norr R when ur foot is in it the mileage will be worse for sure but you can clean up air/fuel mixture for regular driving and it can give you better mileage. Especially if you have a turbo, granny driving with a turbo gets you around 28-30mpg
why are you worried about mpg with a honda
As long as you have a good tune and keep your foot out of it you will better better mileage, multiple tunes will help with that to....
with a reputable tuner behind the computer you should see gains in MPG when cruising
some people just tune for WOT and thats no Bueno
It’s pointless to use a standalone unless ur trying to go boost. Pay $2000 for like maybe 30hp? If you’re able to use flashpro then by all means tune it and drop vtec to 4500. But AP1 and early ap2 it’s not worth it to buy a standalone
id disagree. while it may only be 30-40 HP gains in the top end, the mid range gains are night and day difference compared to stock. Really makes the car a lot more fun to drive! But forsure gets more expensive if you have to buy AEM or some other standalone
Yup you had him if you didn't slow down good shit
Drop the top to get a better experience .... a couple of ponies makes little difference ... enjoy!
Gaaaah! Please stop wiggling the shifter... Its a bad habbit that leads to sloppy play in the stick. Just thought id save you the future headache lol. Nice tune btw great sound as well!!!
I agree horrible habit lol I gotta stop
iMickel AP2 is this ap2 a cr? It looks like the cr blue.
no its not a cr. Berlina black 2008
iMickel AP2 ya it was the reflection in your side mirrors made the car look blue 😂
I could only wish it was a apex blue CR haha
Is it possible to be that fast and have a quiet exhaust though
yeah forsure. a free flowing 3" exhaust will probably pick up a few extra Hp over another set up but its minimal
It would be nice to be fast and not draw more attention
@@oodles86 sleepin
"off the line" thats a roll race friend
Even more of an advantage for boost. If launched correct and hard s2k would of got the sti by maybe half a car from a dig.
S2k is hondas answer to a good supercharged engine. Turbos are for civics :3
Riley W. I agree
turn off the music in your videos that whole copyright b.s
Was looking into getting an s2k, but from what I’ve seen, I think I’ll just keep driving my boring Gs
Makes 248 stock at the crank lol
you obviously dont know how engines work lol
stock ap2 on most dynojets will make 200-210ish.. this car did 213 with the bolt ons before we started tuning
Why'd you put a big ol fart can on it bro 😂
actually straight piped so that means no mufflers
Its well worth it to tune ANY car....
Filming with open window and loud music makes it voice sound really annoying.
Shout out to weezy
For a second there I thot this was a trucking vid on how to down shift by raising ur rpm then grabbing a lower gear...lol....OK I got a loud exhaust can everybody hear it lol
U just got smoked man u should've won
You got smoked by a stock wrx so the answer is no the s2k is not worth tuning , just enjoy it out the box or buy something with a turbo
Steve Vento yup you sound like the sort of dumbass who would spend $5k to gain 20 bhp n/a. Just kidding , you definitely don’t have $5k, you probably got a shit heap 300k miles Ef hatch or something dreaming of turbo noises.
You're an idiot he was starting to pull on him in third but braked do to traffic light
So Cal which will be the case every time fool, I’d rather something that was fast 1st through 3rd gear, not a car that can only start creeping in on a stock scooby by 4th gear , that makes it useless in every scenario except an enormous stretch of highway. if you want a highway pulling machine go buy a supra
He was neck to neck you idiot lol, if not that s2k can pull away from him if he wanted to. But yeah your right 5k for 30hp is completely waste of money.
For power and fuck boy points yes youre right about being a waste of money. But on the track/canyons a lil is alot for this car. I keep up with 350-400whp turbo cars for about 3-4 laps and they start over heating when i can go 10 laps with out a sign of fade from anything. If you say s2ks are slow then youre using it the wrong way.
Fuck dude lose the background circus music. It's really distracting and detracts from the video.
calm down dude go listen to some Halsey
If you’re going to talk turn off the radio smh 🤦🏻♂️
You would've got him? I think he would've killed you
RedRyder Z Sti was likely stock. No balls up top
Steve Vento I don't even like Subarus lol. I drive a 370z.
Lol you didn’t see him reeling him in with every shift?
RedRyder...that suburu would definitely had lost. Any person that really knows about cars....knows AWD rules from a dead stop but the front wheels cannot keep up with the back wheels at higher speeds. The S2000 is RWD so all the wheels are consistent at that speed enabling it to easily pull on him.
