    In the video, I also demonstrate how to keep apple slices from turning brown. In fact, I demonstrate two methods, the way McDonald's does it, and a more practical way that everyday folks can do it. Both ways allow you to put the apple slices in Ziploc bags and have them for lunch without turning brown. After you watch the video, let me know what you think in the comments section. Thanks, Mike ☺

    Smart dude right here. I really like how you don't take anything for face value and actually think things out. I saw the banana video where you found the root cause of how companies keep their bananas fresh and used it for yourself. Very smart dude.

    I don't buy apples in a plastic bag,because I have found in the past that is where stores like to put damaged apples.I put lots of cinnamon on apple slices in my container,shake it and put it in my lunch.Then at break or lunch I pull out my fork that I brought from home and spear my cinnamon coated apples.Because cinnamon is brown you can't see any browning on the pre-cut slices.

      Donald, I have never thought about using cinnamon. Thanks for the tip and your feedback. Mike ☺

    A vinegar/water bath before placing apples in the fridge works great.

      I'm curious as to how the vinegar and water reduces the effects of ethylene gas which is what causes apples? Mike

    I know this is from last year but I have a question. You said don't wash them before you store them in the fridge, when brought home from the store. Is that as to not remove the shellac? What about those who grow apples?

    • @KitchenTipsOnline
      @KitchenTipsOnline  4 роки тому

      Barbara, it's not necessary to wash apples before you store them. I'm pretty sure that the supplier put the food-grade wax on the outside of apples to protect them. Washing that off in advance would increase the possibility of an apple deteriorating in storage. Mike 🙂

    What would be ideal with sliced apples that comes presealed like motts apples. They seem to get extremely moist after only a few days. Should I put them in pineapple juice?

    • @KitchenTipsOnline

      I don't really know the answer to your question because it is not something I have ever done. That being said, I suspect that there may not be any benefit, Mike

    How long does the blue apple keep working?

    • @KitchenTipsOnline
      @KitchenTipsOnline  10 місяців тому +2

      It all depends how often it's used. Think of the packet inside the blue apple like a sponge. If you use it every day, that sponge inside the blue apple will absorb the ethylene gas for about 6 months. But, watch out for too many apples - it might get a bit overwhelmed. Just like how your kitchen sponge can only take so much before it gives up! Mike

    Can I just store them in the fridge without the blue apple? We eat them fast so we do t have to store them for more than a couple weeks.

    The best way to keep apples from turning brown is to eat them. I’ve never once walked into a store and said “I really would like these fruits and vegetables but I’m not going to eat them for three months”.

      There is a season for fresh local produce. Buying produce from far away places in a store is a very limited human experience. And it won’t last. I’m looking for tips to keep the abundant harvests of a Vermont autumn available for as long as possible. These types of apples are not sold in stores.

    "A more practical way" - simply eat the entire apple and avoid the the entire ordeal! A solution in search of a problem....

    • @KitchenTipsOnline
      @KitchenTipsOnline  6 років тому +3

      Think big picture here. I know you were trying to be cute with your response, however consider the fact that lots of people need to store apples long term. Perhaps they buy them in bulk from a shopping club like Costco, or Sam's Club. Or they live a long distance from the closest grocery store and need to buy a couple of bags of apples because they don't shop that often or they are on sale. For these folks, knowing the best way to store apples in their refrigerator is a big help. Mike ☺
