Should have got a locksmith in the first place, a close second would have been to use a endoscope to look inside once you had drilled the hole in the side, you could have done that without torching the safe out of the truck. I hope the rest of the restoration is not to the same standard shown here...
Im not going to be as harsh as other comments, but dude! This was moronic. A safe like that could have easily been opened by a trained locksmith, with patience and skill. Can't believe I just watched curiosity killed the cat (safe) when you know darn well it was empty. All a mofo had to do was contact Robbie for the combination and wait for his response.
The combination was probably written down inside the back of the glove box in the cab or something. If not, having a locksmith open it so it could be saved along with the truck would have been the way to go. If you only wanted to get in, should have cut the bottom off so it could have been welded back on, the top with the dial left unmolested.
He's definitely NOT a mechanic saying things like "unfreeing the steering" and " how much plasma did we burn up". He just renewed his ID10T card with those statements! LoL
Steven Thompson was thinking right. Drill point was 41 from the dial and 3/4 from deal center of the dial spindal. would have opened in about 30 minutes. repaired in another 30 minutes and made a lot more money than what they have know. LOCKMAN
I use to buy Mosler 600 pound 5 drawer file cabinets safes and Mosler 1,000 pounds weapons safes from the US Navy when they were closing the bases around Alameda, CA. They wanted to make sure they were empty before they were sold to the public so a few of them had a small 1/4 inch hole near the dial to open them up, then they would weld the hole up.
It was was one of the crew guys safe, he used to keep fake beards, rubbers, quualludes, cocktail glasses all in the little safe, sounds like a creeper kit to me
Safe is worthless. I guess in the scheme of trying to keep as much original on the restored truck, it would have made sense to not destroy it, but I am sure that people were called and assessments were made before they did this. Guessing they could have put a "new" and or working safe in its place to keep it restored like the original. Keep in mind these "YeaHoos" got the rig in the lime light and restored or it would still be in Clearwater Florida rotting. In FL with the heat, humidity and constant rain, that rig would be a pile of rust by now. Guess I am a glass half full guy...
WTF a proper welder could have cut the safe open for you at the seam with a zipcut then re welded it and you would have never known he was inside and with how much you plan on replacing it wont be original anymore its a goddamed shame whoever is in charge of this shouldnt have been let near something this important...
That rig should be in a museum...
I hope you can restore the safe and put it back in place, it`s all part of the history!

Amen.
Restoration ?
All I see is scavenger scum yanks
Fuel tanks and a guy waving a torch around. Real smart .
This wasn't my father's safe. I remembered the combo back in 81. It was empty.
Robbie Knievel is this the real Robbie knievel?
LMAO !!
It was full of dreams
Should of sold the safe on E-bay
Yes that is Robbie's Comment. Rest in eternal flight, Beloved One ❤️💙
He. Was. A. Real. Live. Hero
All that and you don't even let us see inside, even if it was empty . We all would have loved to see anyway !
What costs more? Three guys spending half a day destroying a safe, or a locksmith manipulating it without damaging the only item of value?
Actually saw that safe today - it's been restored - at the Evel Knievel Museum in Topeka, KS - pretty cool place to visit.
History being destroyed -- sad.

I can't believe they torched something like that out.....!!
Hell, I could have opened that for ya, been cracking safes professionally for 3 decades.👍
I can hear Evel saying "no sonofabitch is gonna find a dime in here but lock it good anyways and let them think they've hit the jackpot" lol
@1:25 "Are you an experienced safecracker?" Nope. "Safecrackers" with experience don't knock the dial off.
Thanks for sharing✌
If you can't eat it,and you can't F@
I would have thought there would be a better way to determine the contents of the safe than to destroy it.
Should have ran a stick weld with a Hoboken, the ran a cletus thru it, never would have looked like that
with the way they treated the safe they deserved everything they got..

If this is not a hold my Beer and watch this moment I don't know what is. Maybe we should have called a locksmith and saved this.
Iron American Dream on UA-cam.
Evel Knievel would be laughing his ass off. Ride a Harley.
It's like exploring the pyramids with a sledge hammer... no offense but I sure hope your not a mechanic...

The man wasn't dufmb leaving money in a safe haha...the safe its self was prolly worth money.
Sickening, novices......
Of course there's nothing in there you dip. It would have been worth more money left alone anyway
They had no stinking business without the knievels permission
why would you ruin that safe that was one of the stupidest things I've seen ppl do in a while
how much you pay for the truck
Greed wouldn't allow him to leave anything in the safe.you know that.
Lady penelopes chauffer would have had that safe open in seconds
He is that good!
All these mechanics and nobody got a bore scope
Should have stuck to the same color scheme
Just like Al Capone's vault...empty.
Where is Giraldo Rivera? LOL!
Well if there was something of value you think these stooges would've put it on video,, haha NOT
Yeah, no kidding. Just get a locksmith an you could have saved the safe.
Cool, too bad you didn´t find anything :-(
Why the fuck did you do that I thought it was a restoration not a demolition
Evel Knievel.....I'm surprised there wasn't a bottle of booze in the safe.
