    I'm going to give this a whirl on the SuperCoupe manifolds! Thanks bud. Any updates on how they held up? Either way, as long as I get the current rust off I win.😊

      Howdy. Up to 2000 miles now and they still look good. Here is a photo from about 700 miles: www.wranglerforum.com/threads/2005-lj-the-marathon-build.2056737/page-2?post_id=35446585&nested_view=1&sortby=oldest#post-35446585

    The vinegar and salt seems like a good solution but... five weeks?

      @@dropzonemedia7811 Maybe use an electrolysis bath with a 12V battery. I've used that extensively with great results on many restorations, but never on a manifold. I may try it here soon with my tractor.

      I think I might try it. The 5 weeks I'm sure is for a stupid amount of rust... If you have less you can probably get them decent in less time... Try it out

    The salt confuses me. I'd be curious to know the chemistry behind it. Your tub of used vinegar and salt looks like my used tub of molasses and water.

    • @Rollout001
      @Rollout001  3 місяці тому +1

      The salt in the vinegar and salt mixture for rust removal serves a couple of important functions:
      1) Electrolyte Enhancement: Salt (sodium chloride) dissolves in water to produce ions, which increases the conductivity of the solution. This enhances the ability of the acidic vinegar (acetic acid) to interact with the rust (iron oxide) and facilitate its breakdown and removal.
      2) Abrasive Action: The salt particles can also act as a mild abrasive when scrubbing the rusty surface. This helps to physically dislodge rust particles, making the chemical action of the vinegar more effective.
      In summary, the salt enhances the chemical action of the vinegar and can also help physically remove rust through abrasion.

      They are still on my shelf. I am getting the engine ready on a run stand now (video will be coming...), but it will still be a little while before I get the restored manifolds installed. So the jury is still out...

    • @Rollout001

      Probably not. I just set them aside to soak and ignored them for a while. Nuts and bolts usually clean up in a day.

    I have some off a 69 Trans Am. Also, are they required to soak for 5 weeks or will a few days be good enough? If not I'll try evapo rust. Just trying to put them up for sale so I can buy more auto parts lol.

    • @Rollout001

      This method is slow. Inexpensive, non-toxic, but slow. I don't think a few days would be enough.
