Presenting another Walthers name train in my collection, the Santa Fe 1954 El Capitan that ran from 1953 to 1956 during the Super Chief and EL Cap
"Hi - Level" trains. A streamline beauty that runs the same route and brethren passenger trains. Please enjoy the video of this deluxe train in it's sights and sounds.

Really excellent video with great audio 👍🏻
Another beautiful train, so gracefully featured on a wonderful layout. I could watch this over and over. The "sizzle/hiss" of metal wheels on metal track, enhanced by the clickity-clack, is simply mesmerizing. Thanks for sharing this great video.
Stunning. Very good stuff.
Amazing detail, lighting in the coaches and everything! very impressive! Thanks for sharing!
Excellent ! And the layout looks impressive too. For me the 1954"El Capitan" is the best passenger train ever. I am assembling one right now. I've got the four Warbonnet locomotives from Athearn Genesis and I'm only waiting for the 47-seat coaches from Walthers. They are going to produce a new batch soon.
Saw the cap and chief in Chicago many times, arriving from California it was always kinda dirty looking but when it left Chicago it look like they wax those cars, they serviced it in china town in Chicago 22nd street, then backed it into Dearborn station, to see it leaving Chicago all shinny was stunning, and those warbonnet's, I didn't know what looked better, the empire builder, panama limited over at 12th street, or the north coast limited, my favorite was them warbonnet's 👌👌
Atchison, Topeka, & Santa fe
Awesome Video!! Fantastic train
beautiful santa fe train!
I'd love to know if there's a printout of this consist
The El Capitan was a bi level train. It was not until ridership declined and the El Capitan and Superchief werd both now combined and no longet bi level cars. My mom rode the El Capitan and Superchief out of Chicago heading west to visit relatives.
The El Capitan started as "normal" level train and in 1956 they moved to the high-level coaches.
My sister and I started taking the El Capitian to Chicago from Los Angeles in 1954. I was 9 years old and it was my first train ride and I do recall that it was not bi level at first. I was disappointed when I walked to the Dome car that the seats were always taken by the adults. The bi level came soon after and was much more comfortable and better views. Made a total of 5 trips to Chicago during the summer vacation to visit relatives. Oh, those were great days to live.
Thanks for the post. I forgot they ran A-B-B-A units like they did. They ran long trains but the EMD units had only 1,500 hp apiece. They ran them into the 1970s. (The numbering isn't right is it? Should it be like 34C?)
I think I got 34C on the end
Did you tint the dome car ? Which color did you use?
If my train had that many cars the end of rhe car would meet the front of the train on my little layout
The big dome ran on the Chief after the Hi Level conversion of the El Capitan.
explain more please I'm trying to learn the exact consist
A couple of cars have smaller windows over more than half of their length. Why was that? Are those kitchens?
Those are the lunch counter diner cars
No horns on lead unit.
I have the Mainline Cars and there is sooo much Space between the Cars :(
You can buy a detailing set for them, you can install body mounted couplers and railings
