Hot Summer Bass Fishing Techniques and Gun Shots

  • It's been a hot summer already here in Texas. With almost no wind, and high humidity, bass fishing on this day was tough. We arrived at the lake around 10AM, but there were still a few topwater bass active when we got there. Somebody must have been shooting at a snake or a beaver or something, because there were some random gun shots that were pretty close. Not my first time having bullets fly around the boat in east Texas...
    The shad were mostly suspended just a few feet below the surface, staying above the thermocline. The best pattern was fishing an old road bed with crankbaits. The road had some old big trees along the side of it that were holding most of the bigger bass. This was a typical tough summer bass fishing day in Texas that calls for a variety of techniques to bring numbers of bass in.

    Man. Once again another great video from the lakeforkguy. I do believe there is never a better place to spend time with a friend then on the water ripping lips. Whaaaat?! New lake. Wow. Super cool. You should try 50# braid to 30 or 25# fluo. Or 50 or 65 braid to berkely vanish 30# or less fluorocarbon. That water is super clear and vanish will be clear as day underwater. Just something from the bay area boy. Excited you're having fun. I'll be having fun in 7 hours at Paradise Lake in California. Submerged road beds were probably constructed mostly of stone/gravel. These hide all types of little creatures and crawfish. Might be why you find bass there.

    Just to double check it is better to fish deep down than on top when it's hot unless your in sticks or weeds like you guys are right

    • @XDMStranger
      @XDMStranger 8 років тому

      At least in texas, during the summer the surface water gets too hot to hold enough oxygen for the fish to be able to breathe. There is usually a thermalcline in 6-12 feet of water where the water cools significantly and regains its ability to hold oxygen. Most big fish will suspend or hold to structure in that zone. Some will move shallow to feed at dawn/dusk. Also, grass generates oxygen. If bass stay shallow they tend to stay close to grass or current which stirs the water and helps oxygen saturation. Hope that helps somewhat.

    • @thomassorice
      @thomassorice 8 років тому

      +XDM Stranger thx I was just wondering cuz I went fishing during the day today and was only catching bass near the land which had shade land I wasn't catching any deep out in the sun so I was just checking if it was that they like shade better

    • @jons2921
      @jons2921 8 років тому

      Technically during hot days bass are either deep or in the weeds because weeds hold oxygen, but some bass don't go by the textbook and hang to lay downs and brush piles

    • @XDMStranger
      @XDMStranger 8 років тому

      +Thomas Sorice shade is definitely better because it keeps the water cooler and it's easier for the fish to feed in. Think of driving into the bright sun without sunglasses. Sunshine will position fish deeper and on the shady side of cover. I have a few spots I usually save for about 8:30 am if it's going to be sunny because the shade gets right.

    New angler question here : when using a crank bait in the wooded area (lots of dead wood - no moss) my friends say not to use that bait because you got too caught up on the wood down below that you cant see, and therefore, start loosing a lot of $.
    My questions are: What was the actual name of that crank bait and where can I guy them?
    Did you use any data or information on the water you fished or had you fished it before so you knew the ins-and-outs of the areas?
    Last but not least, how did you not get caught up a million times using any type of crank bait in that wooded water...I've got to know how you did it. Great Job, bro!!!
